We are looking for a Prospect Research & Donor Insight Manager to join the National Theatre Development Team.

The purpose of the role

This role is an exciting opportunity to help shape the future of fundraising at the National Theatre, as we look to grow our income from individual members, major donors, trusts and corporate organisations.

Working with the Senior Prospect Research & Donor Insight Manager, you will develop a strong fundraising pipeline that will ensure the team can reach their long-term targets.

Your natural curiosity will lead you to identify new opportunities using a variety of online sources in combination with the NT’s database, Tessitura, and you will be able to articulate your recommendations to fundraisers in a concise and compelling way. With excellent attention to detail, this role also undertakes due diligence research into potential funders to assess any risks to the NT of accepting funds. This role also manages the Development Operations Assistant, who leads the day-to-day administration of the Development database.

The role has scope to offer insights across the whole Development team and NT senior management, and would suit a strong collaborator with enthusiasm for the work of the NT.

The successful candidate will have the following: 

• Experience of managing prospect research projects and supporting prospect pipeline management in a fundraising environment.

• Experience of Tessitura or other customer relations management systems.

• Proven ability to gather and interpret information for relevance from a variety of sources.

• An appreciation for donor motivations and ability to make thoughtful connections with projects.

• Evidence of the ability to present information in a clear and concise manner, both written and orally.

BACKGROUND

RISE (Reimagining Industry to Support Equality) is a new collaboration focused on accelerating and expanding gender equality and women’s empowerment across global supply chains, through the delivery of workplace interventions and greater cross-sector collaboration. Our mission is to empower women workers, embed gender equality in business practice and catalyze systems change with an initial focus on the apparel, footwear, and home textile sectors. RISE is a membership organization that works with the world’s largest apparel and footwear brands as well as suppliers as members. Founded by BSR, CARE, ILO-IFC Better Work, and Gap In, RISE is hosted by BSR with a longer-term intention of becoming an independent not-for-profit entity.

RISE is now seeking the support of a fundraising contractor to help us achieve our new fundraising strategy and plans for significant expansion of our work. RISE has a mixed funding model and receives funding from private sector, philanthropic foundations, corporate foundations, bilateral agencies and could receive funding from multilateral agencies. This role will support RISE on grant fundraising.

We are looking for a self-starter with strong grant fundraising experience and network who is equally happy partnering with the team on new project ideas, writing proposals, expanding prospects and presenting to donors. We expect you to share our commitment to seeking a fairer future for women working in global supply chains and wants to join us to help scale our work through year-on-year income growth.

Time commitment: On average of 2-3 days/week with some periods being more intense than others.

Location: The Contractor can be remote, preferably located in the US or Europe. The person will report to the Executive Director, based in London.

SCOPE OF WORK:

Proposal and Concept Development

• Partner with subject matter experts at RISE to brainstorm and develop impactful new project ideas and turn these into concept notes or fundraising campaigns.
• Lead on grant proposal development for priority concepts. This involves drafting a compelling project narrative that translates our work for a donor audience, as well as program activities and outcomes, and a logical framework or theory of change.
• Lead on development of case for support, capability statements and pitch materials.
• Lead on complex, multi-year budget development for proposals in compliance with donor requirements and in line with RISE and BSR operational, financial and compliance guidelines for grant funding.
• Work with RISE Executive Director and wider RISE team on developing a healthy grant pipeline.

Donor Engagement

• Build on RISE’s existing donor networks and relationships to lead donor engagement and secure new funding in support of RISE’s priority action areas. This will involve:
  • Broadening RISE’s base of donors by identifying priority donor targets and seeking ways to build new donor relationships, with particular focus around philanthropic foundations, corporate foundations and bilateral agencies.
  • Maintaining regular communications with relevant donors and seeking ways to involve them in RISE’s work.
  • Partner with RISE Associate Director for Business Partnerships on development and outreach to RISE members on grant funding opportunities, in particular collaborative or joint opportunities.
  • Developing and implementing outreach plans for priority concepts.
  • Lead on or partner with RISE subject matter experts and leadership on donor presentations and pitch-meetings.
  • Keeping RISE team up to date with donor intelligence.
  • Represent RISE, as agreed, at relevant conferences or events where RISE priority donors are present.

Fundraising planning

• Work with Executive Director to develop annual workplans for fundraising/business development/partnership building.
• Input into fundraising strategy and strategic reviews – including priority areas of focus, strategies for increasing grant funding, and ways to enhance internal collaboration with content experts.

The Scope of Work is not an exhaustive list of duties but is intended to reflect a range of duties the consultant will perform. The Fundraising Contractor agree priorities with RISE Executive Director. The Scope of Work will be reviewed regularly and may be changed in the light of experience and in consultation with the Contractor.

EXPERIENCE

• At least 10 years of relevant professional experience with developing and winning grants including writing concepts, high quality grant proposals.
• Demonstrated expertise with conveying a theory of change and developing logframes, budgets, and work plans for complex, multi-year and global projects in collaboration with program team.
• Good understanding of gender equality, women’s economic empowerment and the private sector’s role in achieving the SDGs.  
• Knowledge of the international donor landscape and trends, with existing networks and demonstrable success in securing grant funding from a diverse group of donors including private and corporate foundations and governments.
• Ability to drive strategic work and engage colleagues around collective action/implementation.
• Demonstrated fluency in English, including advanced writing and editing, with the ability to communicate ideas effectively and concisely.
• Well-developed interpersonal skills for working with diverse teams, including across diverse geographies and interacting with senior staff in donor organizations.
• Excellent presentation and facilitation skills.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office.

REPORTING

The Contractor will report to the Executive Director and work closely with the Associate Director Business Partnerships, Program Director and Country and Program Managers. The Contractor will also partner with work closely with the BSR Grants and Foundation team.

Bringing a strong network of partners, donor relationships and understanding of donor trends, you will play a vital role in reviewing and improving the quality of War Child’s institutional fundraising in the UK and work with our Programmes teams to diversify the scope and scale of new donors and grants. The main task of the Institutional Funding Lead is to secure funding from UK-based institutional donors. Your primary focus will be the FCDO. You will drive forward dynamic and proactive engagement strategies directly with UK-based institutional donors and indirectly through consortia. The post holder will also develop and support organisational positioning for contracts and grants. This role will introduce innovative and agile funding approaches and models to enhance War Child UK’s competitiveness in a complex donor environment.

• Substantial experience of co-creating, leading, and coordinating complex proposal development processes directly and remotely – ideally for relevant donors including FCDO and humanitarian pooled funds
• Strong understanding of donor compliance, with an up-to-date knowledge of relevant donors including FCDO, and humanitarian pooled funds
• Experience in building networks, partnerships, and consortia to maximise programme impact and funding opportunities
• The ability to engage with diverse stakeholders in a way that leads to increased impact for the organisation, and to spot and create opportunities with institutional foundations effectively and facilitate increasing access to funding for War Child’s work 
• Ability to analyse the donor environment and identify trends, anticipate changes, be comfortable to deal with a large number of elements interacting in diverse and unpredictable ways

The Role

It’s an exciting time to join War Child as they have just launched their new Alliance initiative. The War Child Alliance brings together the five War Child fundraising members (in the Netherlands, UK, Germany and Sweden, plus Children in Conflict in the US), with 14 programme members, based in and around conflict-affected areas across the world and coordinated by a new international body: the War Child Alliance Foundation. Through the Alliance they are integrating programme activities under one umbrella – allowing War Child to combine strengths and pool resources – all with the aim to multiply impact for conflict-affected children.

As part of the Trusts and Institutional funding team of four you’ll work alongside the Head of Trusts and Institutional, Trusts Manager, Trusts Executive and the new Trusts and Institutional Funding Executive. The main task of the Institutional Funding Lead is to secure funding from UK-based institutional donors, with a primary focus on the FCDO.

You will drive forward dynamic and proactive engagement strategies directly with UK-based institutional donors and indirectly through consortia, as well as developing and supporting organisational positioning for contracts and grants.

This role will introduce innovative and agile funding approaches and models to enhance War Child UK’s competitiveness in a complex donor environment. You’ll achieve this by working closely with the War Child Alliance Foundation to research and analyse opportunities, enhance and support donor engagement plans, and drive forward engagement opportunities to maximise and secure funding.

About the role

• Develop and strengthen a network of contacts with relevant representatives from UK institutional donors and partners, primarily FCDO, institutional foundations and INGOs, to enable consortia to develop and grow.
• Identify funding needs within War Child and match them with institutional funding opportunities by engaging with country teams, the regional teams and the Alliance institutional funding coordination.
• Lead the co-creation, coordination, and design of complex and challenging proposals for institutional funding opportunities, including multi-country opportunities or large-scale consortium bids.

The Fundraising Systems & Data Analysis (FSDA) team of the Development and Outreach Department of Human Rights Watch (HRW) is seeking applicants for the position of Senior Manager, Analytics and Insight. The Senior Analytics and Insight Manager will be responsible for instilling a data-driven and data-informed culture to make evidence-based decisions, increase efficiencies, improve overall departmental return on investment (ROI), grow new fundraising streams, and achieve long-term profitability.

The Senior Analytics and Insight Manager will generate, improve, and analyze fundraising data, both quantitative and qualitative, from internal and external sources to produce strategic information that supports data-driven and informed decisions, tactics, and strategies that consistently maximize HRW fundraising results. This role will feed into both the quarterly reforecasts and annual budget data and supporting methodology and collaborating with the Finance team as needed for the Development department.

This full-time position will ideally be based in either the United States or Europe, preferably in one of the cities where HRW has an office and will report to the Managing Director of Fundraising Systems and Data Analysis based in London. The Senior Analytics and Insight Manager will manage at least one direct report.

The successful candidate may have the option to work remotely but is expected to work from the office 1-2 times a week. We aim to be as flexible and supportive as possible in both the recruitment for and onboarding of this position.

Responsibilities:

Product Management Oversight: 

1. Provide strategic, tactical, and operational planning of all Business Intelligence (BI_ Systems and tools utilized by the Development Department;

2. Implement and build the BI structure of the Development Department, working closely with CRM (Salesforce) team and working with vendors as needed to understand the desired outcomes;

3. Partner with the Training & Support team to promote user adoption of BI reports by developing and implementing communication plans, training campaigns, and incentives to encourage staff engagement and utilization;

4. Ensure effective coordination and change management with Training & Support, CRM and Digital products, IT, and fundraising teams;

5. Act as the subject matter expert for all areas of fundraising reporting and respond to escalated queries and reporting discrepancies from Data Analysis Officer;

Support both the CRM and Digital Product Managers as needed.

Data, Analysis and Reporting:

1. Support the development and implementation of the long-term data and insight strategy for HRW which improves data quality, deepens the department’s institutional memory, and aligns with the broader HRW data strategy;

2. Develop and present actionable insights, strategic recommendations, and business intelligence from analytical output to support strategic decisions for the Development team and on investments and benchmarking activities;

3. Deliver the data and insight strategy including activity reporting, financial forecasting, specialist report development, and ad hoc analysis projects and data selections, to increase understanding of activity, supporter and financial trends and making recommendations to leadership to deliver improvements;

4. Collaborate with the Marketing Team to create data selections including recommendations on which are the best targets for direct marketing campaigns, create segments according to strategically determined criteria, data model, and develop testing plans to yield statistically significant results;

5. Work with the Fundraising Systems and Data Analysis Managing Director to build tools and reports that allow for both the forecast and budget revenue projections to be provided with ease. Create multi-year fundraising projections per main channel and audience using historical data, statistical modelling techniques, and new initiatives;

6. Collaborate with the Finance team around both the production and validation of financial reporting, including budgeting, reforecasting, and income reporting in general for the Development D Ensure that the Marketing coding / attribution processes are clearly documented and any exceptions tracked with the Revenue Operations teams;

7. Ensure that the expenditure budget for the Development Department is managed and reported on effectively, capturing the planned spending across the different teams within the department, including reporting on the actuals and investigating any variances with finance and the budget holders as needed; and

8. Ensure that the Leadership Gift data reporting can occur, through development of advanced visualizations including dashboards and ensure that hygiene initiatives are followed by supporting both the Data Quality and Integrations Officer and Relationship Manage Work with Finance on the monthly reconciliation processes.

ROLE SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Vice President, Partnerships based in the UK, you will work closely with the teams in our dual headquarters (Toronto, Canada and London, UK), as well as programme and fundraising teams across Africa, Asia, Europe, Africa, Asia and the Middle East. You will be responsible for coordinating a variety of functions that support Right To Play’s (RTP’s) global business development and grant management strategy, supporting proposal development for new funding opportunities and grant management for existing donor partnerships. The role will also include internal support for different fundraising offices globally, to ensure joined up approaches are undertaken to secure and manage grant funding across RTP.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

#1. Funding Identification (15% of Time)

• Lead global prospecting for new business development by tracking funding opportunities, and researching suitable new funding opportunities from governments, private organizations, and foundations in line with RTP’s theory of change and organizational priorities.
• Research and understand the current funding strategies of institutional donors and philanthropic giving organisations to support strategic decision-making on new business development. This will include a focus on regional, country, and sectoral funding trends relevant to RTP’s geographic and thematic areas.
• Monitor funding opportunities and ‘calls’, ensuring that the relevant departments globally within RTP are informed in a timely manner with tailored information.

#2. Proposal Development and Grant Management Support (30% of Time)

• Work in conjunction with relevant departments across RTP (including Global Programs, Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning, and Communications departments), to lead the development of different thematic and programme funding materials that will support new donor acquisition and strong donor stewardship.
• Support programme funding personnel across the organisation in the development of specific materials to assist in new business development and equip fundraisers to seek relevant funding opportunities.
• Support the development of proposals in response to specific funding opportunities as required by the Global Partnerships team and occasionally the Country Office teams, in some cases this will be leading on certain proposals.
• Support programme funding personnel across the organisation in the development of project narrative and financial reports, to ensure high standards of reporting and donor stewardship are maintained. In some cases, this will be leading on certain reports.
• Provide additional ad-hoc support to fundraising activities, personnel and offices across the organisation globally as required across the programme funding cycle to ensure strong proposal development and grant management practices are maintained. 
• Participate in, and represent, RTP in external meetings and networks as required.

#3. Data Management, System Compliance and Coordination (40% of Time)

• Track funding applications, pipelines and reports across all fundraising departments globally, using RTP’s Client Relationship Management (CRM) platform and other tracking tools as required.
• Work closely with fundraising offices across the organisation to ensure timely and accurate use of RTP’s CRM platform so accurate fundraising data is maintained in the system.
• Support quarterly reporting and analysis of global funding progress, funding pipelines, funding priorities, tracking against targets/objectives, and disseminate the information globally to all relevant staff.
• Support the preparation of materials (including presentations) on organisational funding performance for the senior Executive Management Teams.
• Manage internal information databases and Microsoft SharePoint sites ensuring documents related to proposals, donor reports, fundraising materials etc. are stored according to agreed protocols and disseminated across the fundraising and program delivery offices.
• Work closely with the Global Fundraising Operations Manager and Global Business Analyst to ensure the platform remains an accurate and effective database of donor information and responding to ad-hoc tasks as necessary.
• Lead on the preparation and coordination of various monthly procedures as required.

#4. Global Partnerships Team Support (10% of Time)

• Contribute to strategic discussions within the team to support planning and priorities.
• Support the planning and implementation of internal meetings and/or conferences.
• Keep up to date with the major issues pertaining to children, child rights and development, as well as the donor environment and developments within RTP.
• Additional tasks as requested by the members of the Global Partnerships Team.
• Undertake general office administrative tasks as needed.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING (ESSENTIAL):

EDUCATION/TRAINING/CERTIFICATION:

• Undergraduate degree or equivalent in international development, political science, international relations, or related discipline; or equivalent work experience

EXPERIENCE:

• 2 years’ practical experience in managing multiple and varied projects
• 2 years’ experience in supporting proposal development and donor reporting
• Fundraising experience for not-for-profits including developing applications, securing funding from a variety of sources, and a track record of identifying and researching donors
• Demonstrated experience in building strong trust-based relationships with widely diverse

• Knowledge of program design and budgeting processes, including development of logical frameworks and performance monitoring plans

LANGUAGES:

• Fluency in spoken and written English
