Job description

Funded by the Department for Education, our national Peer-to-Peer Support Service is brand new. We will be developing peer support groups across England so that kinship carers are more able to access the emotional and practical support and advice they need.

We’re looking for Peer Support Volunteer Coordinators to make sure we deliver an exceptional project for kinship carers. We are recruiting to four areas across England: East Midlands, North West, South West and West Midlands.

Between you, you’ll manage the set-up, recruitment and training of volunteer kinship carer Peer Support Group Leaders. You’ll help them to create 100 new local peer support groups across England that really meet their needs and you’ll also help build capacity, confidence and advocacy for established groups.

Alongside this direct delivery, as one of our coordinators you’ll input into the development of a new peer support microsite and e-Learning platform. You’ll help bring together Volunteer Support Group Leaders and their experiences as we co-produce new training resources to help them to lead their groups.

Location: We are recruiting across four areas in England: East Midlands, West Midlands, North West, and South West.

Hours: Full-time (flexible, working minimum of 28 hours/per week considered – pro rata)

Benefits: 30 days annual leave plus bank holidays (pro rata if part-time) and pension

About Kinship:

Kinship is the leading charity in England and Wales for kinship carers – relatives and friends who raise children when their parents aren’t able to. We offer kinship carers expert advice as well as financial, legal, practical and emotional support and understanding from the moment they need it, for as long as they need it. We’re always there to help with the complicated and stressful decisions that so many kinship families have to make, as well as to celebrate the good times.

Working alongside kinship carers and the children they raise, with their voice and views at the fore, we build communities of support and give everything we have to fight for each family and their rights, as well as to raise awareness of kinship care and secure better support for all those playing this critical role.

We are purposeful about our recruitment
We are building an organisation which reflects the diverse kinship care community across England. We actively want to recruit people from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities – as well as kinship carers and people from a range of backgrounds.

At Kinship, we are very flexible about how we work. We have children. We are caregivers. We’re proud that about 20% of our team are kinship carers. We know the importance of a good work balance and creating exceptional services for kinship carers.

We don’t want you to miss the important moments in life.

We are values led. Your values sit alongside your skills and experience and are every bit as important. We need you and your experience and your passion. And in return we want to make sure that you feel valued as part of a supportive, caring and ambitious charity.

We use a blind recruitment process.
