Birthrights is the leading authority on the fundamental human rights of women and birthing people during pregnancy and birth and our work has never been more urgent.

We need a strong team-player and self-starter who can respond to all enquiries coming into the advice service and who knows when to seek further support, guidance, or information from the rest of the team.

Our advice and information manager, who works 3 days a week, will retain overall responsibility for the advice service provision, bringing the intelligence themes from the advice service to the wider training and advocacy work of Birthrights. You will be supported by the manager to respond and to confidentially record advice enquiries on two days a week, working directly with the advice and information manager and our Legal Lead on any more challenging enquiries that require a response beyond giving individual advice. For example, Birthrights might write directly to a Trust or raise themes from our advice work with the NMC or the Royal Colleges. You will coordinate your schedule with the existing Advice and Information Officer and Manager to ensure that two team members are available throughout the week, with overlap in working days for collaborative working and team meetings.

You will be an integral part of our team. We have a weekly advice team meeting and monthly team meetings. We use Microsoft Teams messaging and calls to support one another and to communicate throughout the day.

Combining a keen grasp of participant needs, with sound understanding of commissioner and funder requirements, as well as a can-do, entrepreneurial attitude, this is a great opportunity for a senior manager to progress to the next level of leadership within the sector and shape the education and community engagement programmes of a leading orchestra.

Key Responsibilities 

Strategic Planning:

• Undertake research and mapping as required to ensure that projects and programmes respond to local and regional needs and is distinctive and complementary in the context of other providers.

• Keep abreast of educational policy and practice at national and regional governmental level, ensuring that project development is aligned with current thinking and strategy.

• Develop new bespoke and innovative education and community projects in strategic partnership with local and national bodies, allied to the core work of the Orchestra.

Leadership and Management:

• Provide creative leadership and direction for the Learning and Engagement Department, reflecting and clearly articulating the Philharmonia’s vision, mission and values

• Develop and motivate the members of the Learning and Engagement Team, and as required, manage the Learning & Engagement team’s support staff, such as freelance Project Managers, animateurs and musicians

• Sustain and strengthen existing partnerships for funding and delivery with key stakeholders including other NPOs, Local Authorities, Music Education Hubs, community groups, arts organisations and venues, private and public development agencies and schools, colleges and universities.

• Represent the Orchestra on the Strategic Boards of appropriate bodies in London and residencies (for example, music hubs)

• Ensure that key national and regional stakeholders have a detailed understanding of the Orchestra’s Learning and Engagement work, as well as ensuring effective and constructive communication with artists and musicians engaged in the Philharmonia Orchestra’s Learning and Engagement Programme

• Represent the Philharmonia Orchestra at external meetings and conferences, as required, acting as an advocate and ambassador for the Orchestra. 

• Lead and manage the Safeguarding for the Orchestra, ensure that the Philharmonia Orchestra’s safeguarding policy and procedure is up to date and effectively implemented, including taking responsibility as the Philharmonia’s Designated Safeguarding Officer; ensure that all relevant staff and freelance practitioners have current DBS checks. 

Programme Management and Delivery:

• Oversee evaluations of all projects to share outcomes with stakeholders and partners and to learn lessons for developing and delivering future projects. 

• Agree and manage budgets for the Learning and Engagement Department

• Commission and oversee production of project-specific marketing materials. 

• Help to develop and support the Orchestra’s Audience Development Strategy, in close partnership with the Marketing Director. 

• Oversee all aspects of project management, planning and production of the various projects and workshops which make up the Philharmonia’s Learning Programme

• Deputise for the Director of L&E as required

Skills and Qualifications

Essential:

• Minimum five years’ experience in a relevant role

• Knowledge of the education and community learning landscape

• Experience with managing and monitoring budgets

• Experience with producing and devising large scale, education, community or participation projects

• Excellent communication skills, with a personable and approachable style

• Experience of reporting tools and data visualisation, ideally for funders

• Passion and interest for music and the arts, with an excellent understanding of orchestras and classical music repertoire

• Ability to read music and orchestral scores

• Ability to lead, mentor and train a team

• Willingness to have a hands-on attitude

The Donor Engagement Manager plays a key role in improving the HNW donor journey and achieving our fundraising goals for enhanced programmatic impact globally in conservation, rescue, and policy.

Role and Responsibilities

The Donor Engagement Manager is an integral component of IFAW’s global Development team. Reporting to the Deputy Vice President, Development, the Donor Engagement Manager leads a robust donor communications, engagement, and stewardship program for high-net-worth (HNW) individuals, spearheading the development of strategy and plans, and supervising a team of contractors and freelancers for project implementation. The successful candidate will contribute to the attainment of ambitious growth goals (including current use, endowments, and significant gifts in will), by inspiring donors’ philanthropic support and leading the creation and implementation of a suite of donor communications and experiences.

Critical responsibilities include:

Create dynamic donor engagement plan

· Spearhead donor engagement plans, including cultivation, stewardship experiences, and recognition

· Drive a robust calendar of communications and activities to optimize donor engagement, mission impact, and a best-in class donor experience with IFAW

· Advise and support frontline fundraisers with strategy and content for donor communications and proposals; collaborate with gift officers on HNW individual donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship efforts, including development of custom proposals and cases for support

· Collaborate with communications and program teams to create compelling donor impact reports, donor newsletters, webinars, bespoke proposals, and other tools that drive and support effective engagement, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major- and principal-level gifts as well as larger legacy commitments; maintain curated library of assets for gift officers to use or customize

· Gather and share impact stories, data, and testimonials to demonstrate the value of donor contributions

· Plan and oversee execution of exclusive engagement opportunities (in-person and virtual) for target audience, designed to highlight IFAW programmatic expertise and build stronger donor relationships

· Develop and implement personalized stewardship plans for select principal and major donors, working closely with frontline fundraisers and relationship managers

· Ensure all donor touchpoints reflect the organization’s mission and values, and that donors feel valued and connected

Manage projects and personnel

· Lead, coach, and manage a team of freelancers responsible for communications, stewardship, and engagement activities; oversee contracts, monitor deliverables and expenditures

· Maintain strong relationships with program leaders across the global organization, keeping apprised of IFAW’s programmatic work to identify topics that will appeal to high-net-worth donors and prospects

· Analyze donor engagement metrics, track trends, and report on the effectiveness of engagement and stewardship strategies.

Collaboration and fundamentals  

· Ensure routine fundraising communications and templates for major gifts are up-to-date, accurate, and on brand (e.g., fundraising appeals, donor education emails, gift acknowledgments, holiday cards, swag)

· Manage creation and updates of bespoke proposals so that they are timely and well-designed

· Improve integration of mail / email outreach

· Collaborate with communications and marketing teams to optimize use and creative repurposing of resources and collateral materials

· Enhance web presence (philanthropy pages) to incorporate donor testimonials and demonstrate impact of philanthropic support

· Update and improve naming opportunities for major and principal gifts, named and endowed funds, larger legacies and blended gifts from HNW individuals

Strategic guidance and innovation

· Collaborate with DVP Development to recommend and implement effective points of contact with donors for the purposes of cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of six-figure+ gifts

· Identify opportunities to present our work more effectively and enhance the donor experience

· Launch or relaunch giving societies – e.g., cumulative lifetime giving, high-end annual giving, legacy society – with an emphasis on philanthropy and engagement rather than perks and benefits

· Advise on ways to streamline and improve donor communications and engagement, e.g., by leveraging technology, balancing push / pull outreach, adjusting the mix of print / digital and other media  

· Guide the larger Development team in positioning our programs to inspire greater philanthropic support

Qualifications and Education Requirements

· Minimum 4-5 years of related experience in nonprofit stewardship, donor communications, fundraising, or related transferable experience

· Experience leading a team in a development setting, including direct supervision of colleagues in donor engagement and stewardship; and/or management of a stable of contractors and freelancers

· Demonstrated ability to work well in a fast-paced, multifaceted environment and lead numerous functions and various projects simultaneously

· Exceptional written communication, relationship-building, project management and collaboration skills

Providence Row has championed people experiencing homelessness in East London since 1860. Our Resource Centre is the heartbeat of that mission – a safe, respectful space where visitors can eat, shower, charge phones, see health professionals and get expert advice, all under one roof.

As Day Centre Manager, you’ll lead a flagship service at the frontline of London’s homelessness response – a hub visited by hundreds each month. You’ll shape how we welcome, assess, and connect people to life-changing support, while driving service improvements that influence best practice across the sector.

About the role

• Lead and develop a multidisciplinary team– line-manage a Coordinator, Support Worker, volunteers and peer mentors; set clear rotas, coach great practice and keep morale high.
• Oversee the welcome & triage desk – make sure every visitor is greeted, assessed and signposted to the right help without delay.
• Keep the building safe and calm – partner with our on-site hostel, manage incidents professionally and ensure health-and-safety checks never slip.
• Build strong partnerships – schedule outreach agencies, host funder visits and champion the Service User Forum so lived experience drives change.
• Embed a culture of continuous improvement - using data and client feedback to refine services. 

What you’ll bring

Safer Futures
The Safer Futures programme supports people as they rebuild their lives following some of the most challenging experiences in life. This includes people navigating the criminal justice system, survivors of domestic abuse, and people seeking refuge and safety in the UK through migration. The foundation fund work that provides direct support, we also back work that challenges and improves the systems surrounding them, systems that too often fail to provide stability, dignity or security.

This Grants Manager role is focused on refugees and people seeking asylum and navigating migration, as part of the Safer Futures programme.

For refugees and people seeking asylum, the journey to safety and stability is often met with enormous barriers. Even after gaining refugee status, many have just days to secure housing, income, and support. Without it, they risk homelessness, exploitation and exclusion.

We fund organisations that help people move from arrival to independence—through safe housing, legal advice, language support, education and pathways into work. We also invest in systemic change, supporting work that seeks to make the immigration and resettlement system fairer and more effective.

The Role
As a Grants Manager, you will play a central role in shaping and delivering funding that makes a lasting difference. You will assess applications, play a key part in decision-making, and build strong relationships with organisations across the refugee and migration sector. You will carry out policy research, deepen your sector knowledge, and visit funded organisations to learn directly from their work. You will also help us refine and improve our approach to grant making, ensuring our funding is as impactful as possible.

The Candidate
We are looking for someone who has experience in impactful grant making and who deeply understands the UK migration policy landscape and the challenges facing refugees and people seeking asylum. You will be an excellent writer and communicator, able to make a persuasive case for funding decisions. You will have a collaborative approach to grant making and value the role of networks and partnerships in achieving change. You will think systemically, recognising how funding can help shift systems, and you will be confident analysing the financial health of organisations to inform effective grant making. The successful candidate will be solution focused and committed to using their expertise in the migration field to contribute to the impact of the foundation.
