About the role

The Research and Programmes Coordinator role involves:

• Overseeing administrative tasks for all research projects
• Supporting the Programme Development Team Lead in management of all research projects
• Liaising with the Support Coach team to connect with facilitators/parents for data collection e.g. supporting with the running of focus groups
• Using Kids Matter’s CRM to confidently record communication with consultants and Research Assistants
• Supporting the data gathering process for all our evaluation data including maintaining data integrity by performing regular data audits and cleaning parent data ready for the Research Assistants to analyse

Job Title: Training Facilitator

Location: Our central office in Islington, just a 10 minute walk from Highbury & Islington station. We work in a hybrid way, with a minimum of two days a week spent in the office or at one of our services, along with regular travel to various sites across both inner and outer London. Kindly be aware that step free access is not be available at our central office, and some of our other services. 

Salary: £30,900

Shift Pattern: 12 month fixed term contract, 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday 09:00 - 17:00. You may be required to work outside these hours and days as required.  

About the role

We have an exiting opportunity for a Training Facilitator to join our Talent Development team, part of the wider People and Culture team here at SIG! In this role, you’ll oversee and deliver our specialised training programmes for our staff, residents, participants, and external parties. You'll be at the heart of the full training journey including research training needs, designing and developing training content and delivering sessions both in person and online. No two days are the same. 
Some of the key subject areas include: 

De-escalation, conflict management, team building, grief and bereavement, housing/Independent living, employability, confidence and self esteem, and resilience

Mencap operates in over 1,600 properties in England, Northern Ireland and Wales. This includes providing personal support services for people with a learning disability in a variety of settings, housing management services across 250 properties, retail shops and offices.

We have a fantastic and rewarding opportunity for a Finance professional to support our property team for the next 18 months as they focus on delivering transformation in their processes. This role is a 30 hours fixed-term contract for 18 months, on a 4 day a week basis.

We have large offices in London, and Peterborough and smaller offices located throughout the UK. If there is no office available within a reasonable distance, the role may be offered as home-based with some travel for team meetings.

They will work collaboratively with carers, families, and professionals to ensure a holistic, integrated approach to care and sustained community inclusion. The role also involves facilitating access to local community resources and opportunities aligned with clients' interests and wellbeing goals, as well as identifying and helping to develop new partnerships and services that promote mental health and reduce inequalities. They will be responsible for maintaining accurate records of all interactions, support plans, assessments, and outcomes in line with data protection and service standards. Monitoring client wellbeing, addressing emerging risks, and escalating safeguarding or crisis concerns as necessary will also be key responsibilities. Additionally, they will participate in team meetings, supervision, and ongoing training to support professional development and continuous service improvement.

What do I need to bring with me?

Here's what the team will be looking for

The ideal candidate will have a GCSE-level education with an NVQ Level 3 or equivalent, and be willing to complete BEH Peer Worker Training and a Wellness at Work plan. A Health or Social Care qualification and ongoing training commitment are desirable. They will have lived experience of mental health challenges and secondary care use, along with supportive life experiences that inspire others. Experience in support roles, teamwork, and knowledge of recovery tools and principles is essential, as is an awareness of issues like stigma and discrimination. Desirable experience includes psychiatric hospital admission, mentoring, working in public or voluntary sectors, cross-organisational collaboration, and knowledge of local mental health services. Strong written, verbal, and non-verbal communication skills are required, along with basic IT proficiency; skills in Microsoft Office or additional languages are a plus. The candidate should be motivated, reliable, flexible, and resilient, with clear professional boundaries.

Role purpose

RISE strives for a world where people can lead safe, purposeful lives as a result of better relationships within families and communities; where harmful behaviour is marginalised and fewer people are victims of crime. In order to create safe communities, RISE empowers people to break their cycle of harmful behaviour. RISE’s programmes challenge attitudes and facilitate long-lasting behaviour change and are driven by the belief that people can make better decisions, given the right support. RISE are specialists in designing and delivering evidence-based, transformative behaviour change courses within the criminal justice system and wider community.

With the main objectives of reducing re-victimisation and reoffending, and helping to protect the public, the RISE practitioner will deliver a range intervention (individual and group), both in the community and in custody.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide a high-quality service to victims of domestic abuse, delivering a service to those at risk;
• Work collaboratively within a multi - agency framework consisting of the Multi Agency Risk Assessment Conferences (MARAC) and local partnership responses to domestic abuse;
• Identify and assess the risks and needs of domestic abuse victims using an evidence-based risk identification checklist.
• Focus on and prioritise high risk cases and provide a pro-active service through individual safety planning and personal support. 
• Work with victims of domestic abuse at all levels of risk to help them access services to keep them and their children safe.
• Liaise with Social Services and other professional agencies in relation to any child protection/ adult safeguarding risk issues highlighted;
• To ensure that any issues in relation to safeguarding children or vulnerable adults are brought to the immediate attention of the Safeguarding lead (or whoever is relevant).
• Maintain high standards of professionalism and keep abreast of current legislation, best practice and maintain a focus of continuous improvement;
• Work with victims of domestic abuse to help them access services to keep them and their children safe;
• Understand the role of all relevant statutory and non-statutory services available to domestic abuse victims, and work collaboratively with these as appropriate;
• Provide advocacy, emotional and practical support, and information to victims in relation to legal options, housing, health and finance;
• To record case work accurately and ensure administration of caseload is always up to date.
• To communicate internally within RISE, with victims and with partner agencies about the risks and needs of victims.
• To attend regular case review meetings with the DA Team Leader and Practitioners to share information around the identified risks.
• Manage a caseload of 60-70 service users ensuring each client receives a timely and appropriate service, individual to their needs;
• Support the empowerment of the client, and assist them in recognising the features and dynamics of domestic abuse, and help them regain control of their lives;
• Maintain knowledge of the organisation’s operating environment;
• Demonstrate and maintain a commitment to the organisation’s vision and values, strategic aims and objectives.
• To attend and participate in any and all internal and external training identified as necessary to meet the requirements of the role as identified by Rise Mutual CIC.

Main Duties:

• Establish timely contact with Victim/ Survivors of domestic abuse perpetrators who are referred to attend a DVPP,
• Carry out assessments with the Victim/ Survivors via telephone contact or community visit, using the Safe Lives DASH risk assessment tool;
• Carry out detailed safety planning with Victim/ Survivors;
• Manage risk by being pro-active with Victim/ Survivors, sharing information with other relevant agencies in a timely way.
• Refer and/or signpost Victim/ Survivors to other services/agencies to meet risk/wellbeing needs;
• Ensure Victim/ Survivors can access a place of safety e.g. refuge, if risk escalates to a dangerous/unsafe level;
• Maintain Victim/ Survivors contact and continuously monitor risk by keeping up with all available information while the perpetrator attends the programme;
• Attendance at Social Services Conferences (if appropriate), Risk Meetings and MARAC, advising on any safety planning for any risk issues highlighted;
• Undertake an end of case review, signposting Victim/ Survivors to external agencies for ongoing support where appropriate;
• To maintain up to date Victim/ Survivors records to ensure data is collated for all work completed.

About the Role 
The Senior Impact & Evaluation Adviser will provide expert advice on impact, evaluation, and evidence strategies to impact and learning colleagues in UK country teams (who will lead on individual project design, implementation, data collection and analysis). They will support and provide capacity building for colleagues to embed high-quality design, impact measurement, and evaluation into major new initiatives; and lead UKI's approach to ethical research. 

We are looking for someone with extensive experience applying a range of qualitative and quantitative methods in social change research. This includes experience in at least one of the following: participatory research (ideally with adults and children), place-based and/or systems change evaluation, and research that explores public attitudes. Ethical rigor is at the heart of what we do, and you will lead our approach to research ethics, ensuring all work meets the highest professional and ethical standards.

Community Organiser @ Big Local Works

Are you an experienced community organiser looking to make a real difference in an urban community? Do you have experience of working with minoritised and marginalised communities? Are you a people-person with the skills and tenacity to help local people start exciting new initiatives?

If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our team at Big Local Works (BLW) as our Community Organiser. Based on a historic Market Square recently refurbished with £2m from the GLA, we want to develop a more people-powered regeneration to sit alongside the massive property development happening all around us.

As well as driving economic improvements, we want to help create a more tolerant, cohesive, and vibrant local community where everybody is welcome. Part of that is to help local people create more community events, activities, and enterprises that give people the chance to collaborate together and build a lively community where people work and play together.

We need someone with the imagination, creativity and skill to support communities and individuals to have a say in how their community develops, but also take an active part in shaping the area. We have already helped many local people set up their own initiatives, building their confidence and helping them find resources – including the Bermondsey Literature festival, Latin markets, and a range of dance, ecology and arts projects.  This role could help shape the future of South Bermondsey and help us make a great place even better – with a more inclusive economy and community for all.

Key to this is better involvement and increasing the visibility of people from a wider range of backgrounds, in a highly divided area. General Information

Big Local Works (BLW) is a community-focused economic and social inclusion charity based in Bermondsey, South East London. We want to help create a thriving, inclusive local economy and a community in which everyone can participate.

We deliver our support in the community through three main services:

• Expert welfare and benefits advice and advocacy for local people experiencing poverty and hardship
• Employability Skills training and coaching to help people access ways of increasing their earned income
• Start-up and enterprise support for clients who wish to start trading on the local ‘Blue Market’ People Powered Regeneration
• Wider community building designed to create a more tolerant, diverse, and lively local community where everybody is welcome

We have a strategic vision to create a ‘people-powered regeneration’ in an area already undergoing massive redevelopment. In July 2019, a community campaign was successful in securing £2m funding from the GLA for the ‘Made in Bermondsey’ regeneration project centred on making key improvements to the local marketplace,

the Blue Market in South Bermondsey. Final works were completed in July 2022 and the market now has a first-class infrastructure for traders, local residents and visitors to use and enjoy the Blue Market Place. The market also showcases a vision of a better future for the local area: a more prosperous, resilient and connected local community where people come together to trade, socialise, and celebrate across the diverse boundaries.

South Bermondsey has a problematic history with racism and other forms of intolerance, and while migrant (recent and longer-term) communities have begun to settle in Bermondsey after many years of exclusion, there remains a sense that they are not full members of our community. Through our work we seek to empower local people, encourage enterprise and community activity, which is intended both to support the economic regeneration of the area and to empower and increase the confidence of local diverse communities.

Most recently, we have been successful in securing £200,000 from the Esmee Fairbairn Charity for strategy and community engagement support in the local area.

Our key goals are

• Local people have more say over the changes in their local community.
• This means that local people are actively involved in the development of place-based community assets,activities and projects.

Over the past 2 years, we’ve undertaken in-depth research and community mapping to understand our area’s needs, assets and lived experiences.

This role has three key responsibilities:

• Outreach and engagement with diverse local communities to help them build a stronger, more representative voice.
• Supporting the development of new initiatives by local people to stimulate a sense of community.
• Ensuring that a wider range of local people are involved and included in community activity, and their voices heard – especially those from marginalized communities

• Build and maintain a network of contacts among our priority groups and communicate efficiently with them

Skills, knowledge and experience

• Experience of developing relationships with a range of different and diverse community groups especially focusing on historically marginalised groups, especially BAME and recent migrant communities, as well as communities of faith, LGBTQ+ people, and others.
• A strong understanding of, and commitment to, the principles and practices of ensuring equality, diversity and inclusion and how these relate to community organising.
• Demonstrable experience of maintaining strong working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently and proactively, with effective time management and prioritisation skills, to be able to multitask.
• Ability to communicate confidently, professionally, and approachably.
• Experience of managing conflict and challenging behaviour, with appropriate management support
• A high level of written and oral communication skills
• Experience of managing a small budget.
• Professional IT skills including confidence using Microsoft Office and Google Drive, and use of social media. Training can be given.

Personal qualities

• A people-person who actively enjoys getting out and meeting people and forming connections with others
• Somebody with enthusiasm and passion, but also an ability to focus on getting things done
• Somebody who enjoys working both alone and as part of a team, with the ability to inspire, motivate and work collaboratively with others.

Desirable:

• We would particularly welcome those with experience of applying one or more recognised community organising framework
• We would particularly welcome those with experience of supporting microenterprise, as well as purely recreational social/ community-focused activity.

Working pattern

While there is scope for working from home on some tasks, you will need to be present in our centre, on the market, and out and about in the community for a good proportion of your time.

There will be a need to work flexibly, including some evenings and some weekends, for which time off in lieu will be given.

MAIN TERMS AND CONDITIONS

•  4 days per week (0.8 FTE)
• Hours normally 9-5pm but likely to include one evening a week and occasional Saturdays (market day).
• Annual salary: Between £24,000 and £25,600 for 4 days/week - depending on experience (FTE £30-£32,000)
