As a Deaf and Disabled People’s Organisation, we aim to work with people as equal partners to support positive change. You will have your own lived experience of disability (which could include a long term condition or mental health issues), and be able to use the knowledge this brings you to empower other people overcome the barriers they’re facing.
You may have experience in a related role, perhaps in the advice or advocacy sector, but you may come from a different sector, bringing a host of transferable skills. In return, you will become part of a friendly and supportive team, working within a focused but flexible culture, where diversity is valued and you can bring your whole self to work.
The role is for 28 hours a week. Currently it involves a mixture of home working and office working from our modern, open plan office in Barnet and Southgate College, Colindale. The successful candidate will enjoy working in a Deaf and Disabled People’s Organisation with an enthusiastic and friendly team of colleagues.

About the Role
Alexandra House is a 80-bed service for adult from the age of 18-65 with a range of support needs, some of which are complex. The role will require you to work alongside our customers, as part of a multi-disciplinary team, to help identify their strengths and skills so they can achieve their goals and aspirations. Managing all aspects of service delivery, including casework management, the daily running of busy hostels and promoting an inclusive and empowering culture.

Working alongside Reed in Partnership, we will be delivering the HMPPS Activity Hubs contracts in London. Based in Lewisham and Croydon we are looking for Support Workers who have the desired skills and experience to support men and women after release from Custody whilst on supervision licence or serving community sentences.
The purpose of the Hub will be to assist participants not to re-offend, alongside the key aim of ESF to move individuals closer to the labour market.
The Hubs will provide safe and supportive spaces, offering a range of interventions and activities that aim to engage harder to reach individuals, particularly those who face multiple barriers to employment and would benefit from further provision accessed on a voluntary basis.
The Role:
Support Workers will be expected to have the necessary skills to be able to develop a comprehensive action plan, facilitate structured one to one sessions and group sessions, and be responsible for the thorough case management of service users on their caseload. In addition to this, you will:
- Help individuals to address logistical barriers preventing them from engaging with mainstream provision;
- Develop life-skills;
- Enhance their employability;
- Foster a sense of self-worth;
- Build up personal resilience;
- Engage them in community support networks;
- Make them more receptive to engaging with professionals;
- Make them more open to referrals to support outside of the Hub environment;
- Reinforce the value of leading law-abiding lives
Key Responsibilities:
- Developing and maintaining strong relationships with staff in referral organisations and the National Probation Service. Including Outreach into Local Probation Offices.
- Ability to work within an offender focused setting and to be able to develop excellent working relationships with service users and other partner agencies.
- Engage and assess service users and work collaboratively to establish an action plan which Identifies needs, aspirations, barriers and solutions.
- Deliver one to one and group interventions, sustaining engagement by providing a positive experience for the service user.
- Accurate and timely recording and updating of CATs+ computerised system required for programme delivery.
- Work with Offender Managers to regularly review service user risk management strategies in place to support safety and rehabilitation.
Excellent communication skills and being able to develop strong working relationships will also be crucial to this role. You will have a passion for working with people with experience of the criminal justice system and/or with other marginalised groups, and a belief that everyone can turn their life around regardless of past or present circumstances. You will have an ability to build rapport, motivate and inspire, and a keen eye for detail.

Prospectus is pleased to be working with a homelessness charity based in Newham, whose mission is to provide support to people who find themselves sleeping rough in East London by providing a safe and welcoming place to stay, and offering support through the provision of personalised support, educational and life skills opportunities. They are now seeking a Support Worker to join their dedicated Complex Needs team. This is offered as a temporary assignment until the end of June 2022.
As their Support Worker, you will provide a critical role in supporting the team in the day to day delivery of the Complex Needs service and contribute to the promotion and operational planning processes. You will work collaboratively with Assistant Support Workers to promote resident engagement, through the development of positive relationships and thereby contributing towards the promotion of a fulfilling, safe and inclusive environment. Finally, you will also use motivational and asset based interviewing techniques to assess and create support plans and risk assessments that address the needs of residents. Due to the nature of the role, you will have experience in building relationships with vulnerable, disadvantaged or excluded client groups, as well as dealing with challenging behaviours within a similar setting to the homelessness sector. With regards to competency, having a knowledge of relevant legislation is advantageous. E.g. Housing legislation, Rough Sleeping Strategies & the Mental Health Act will be favourable.
