Crisis is the national charity for people experiencing homelessness. We have embarked on our 10-year strategy for ending homelessness. We know it is not inevitable. We know together we can end it.

We are now recruiting the team that will deliver Crisis at Christmas 2025. This unique project mobilises a huge volunteering effort to provide warmth, companionship and vital services in temporary centres across London to people facing homelessness.

Vacancies: We are hiring for three vacancies

Contract: Fixed Term Contact – starting 16 September 2025 until January/February 2026 (as required

Hours: 35 hours per week (some rota’d working to cover weekends and bank holidays over Christmas period)

Location: Canning Town Warehouse, Unit 4 SEGRO Park, London E16 4ES - three days per week onsite. Additional days and locations across London will be required during the Christmas period when our sites are operational.

About the role

We are looking for three new Project Assistants to support the delivery of a range of services our guests need to have a safe and happy Christmas. From healthcare and catering to advice and wellbeing services such as arts and crafts and salon, our services can make a real difference. You will support with the recruitment and management of Crisis at Christmas volunteers and external partners to help deliver services, ensuring teams have all the information and equipment they need. This is a varied role including processing volunteer applications, creating comms materials, managing and communicating schedules, organising training, organising and setting up kit, ensuring our teams of specialists have the equipment and materials they need as well as getting stuck in and helping out directly once our centres open.

This is great role to kickstart your career in the charity sector, as well as in project management or events roles.

About you

To be successful in this role you will have…

• Experience of providing administrative support and general office duties in a busy events or project-based environment
• Excellent spoken and written skills to communicate effectively and confidently with a wide range of audiences
• Ability to prioritise tasks and work to tight deadlines in ambiguous or challenging situations
• Good attention to detail to ensure accuracy in tasks
• Experience of customer service and ability to deal with high volumes of enquiries via phone and email in a professional and friendly manner
• Proficient IT skills and the ability to use data in order to work effectively and collaboratively
• A positive and proactive mindset, coupled with a strong willingness to contribute to and support the success of the project

You may have experience running events or working on busy projects or have experience in a busy customer service or administration environment. You should have an interest in the charity or homelessness sector and a commitment to Crisis’ purpose and values.

Our Healthier Lifestyles Service includes a programme of seated and standing exercise, health checks and social engagement together with our 3 Memory Tree Cafés. Memory Tree cafes combine music and singing, dancing, reminiscence, exercise, activity and social interaction providing a safe and relaxing environment for older people living with dementia and their carers. Our programmes are delivered in various settings across the borough including care homes, sheltered housing and community venues together with our own Brigstock Road Community Hall.

The Healthier Lifestyle team at Age UK Croydon offers a range of inclusive and accessible activities and events across the borough of Croydon combining exercise and social engagement in a variety of local settings.  These sessions help reduce isolation, improve independence, prevent falls, increase fitness levels and manage health conditions. They also provide social engagement and interaction, information and support around living with dementia, a safe and welcoming space for all to engage and relax.

Duties will include (but are not limited to) –

• Independently delivering chair-based exercise sessions daily in Croydon care homes to residents.
• As an Age UK Croydon ambassador promote our services including via talks and presentations to community groups across the Borough.
• Developing and maintaining good relationships with care home, health hub venue staff and partner organisations or talk providers.
• Working as part of the health hub team lead on the delivery of health hubs in various Croydon locations.
• To be the key point of liaison for all clients accessing the Activity Service.
• To support the promotion of the organisation, services, activities, and events.
• To contact clients when there are changes to the regular classes.
• Keep up to date with and the Activity Service changes.
• Awareness of risk assessments and GDPR compliance
• If qualified also delivering standing exercise sessions.

The Opportunity

Limited administrative support for the Group Directors will be a part of the role.

Hearing Dogs for Deaf People has been creating life-changing partnerships between hearing dogs and deaf recipients since 1982. Following on from a strategic review, the charity is now looking to build a new Income Generation Directorate, to enable them to transform many more lives across the UK. Reporting to the Head of Philanthropy, this is a strategic and hands-on leadership role that will shape how the charity uses data, research and insight to drive significant growth in income from major donors, corporate partners and other high-value supporters. Senior Finance Officer

14 hours per week

As our Senior Finance Officer you will contribute to Career Ready’s finance and operations function by providing high quality financial support to the charity. Working as part of a small team of three, you will perform core finance tasks and will support the Head of Finance and Operations with budgeting, reporting and auditing activities.

Main responsibilities and accountabilities

Bookkeeping and Accounting

• Ensure transactions are properly recorded and entered into Xero Accounts
• Assist with the annual audit
• Maintain financial files and records
• Manage and reconcile the accounts payable and accounts receivable
• Process payable invoices and staff expenses in line with fortnightly payment runs
• Perform credit control for maximum debt recovery
• Reconcile the bank statements for review the Head of Finance & Operations

Support to the Partnerships and Income Teams

• Collating financial information for funding applications as required
• Monitoring expenditure on grant-funded programmes

• To support with the administration of monthly salaried payroll for staff, and internship payroll throughout Jun-Sep each year
• To raise monthly salary journals for review by the Head of Finance & Operations

Essential skills and experience required

· Fully or part qualified – AAT, ACCA or CIMA or qualified by experience

· Clear understanding of financial controls, compliance, and reporting frameworks

· Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel

· Ability to prioritise and meet competing deadlines

· Previous experience of computerised accounting and payroll e.g. Xero

A strong understanding of fundraising methods and supporter motivations is essential, as is your ability to communicate charity impact to diverse audiences. You will bring creativity, innovation, and a flexible, problem-solving mindset. · Maintain a forward-looking calendar of Board, Board Committees and Senior Leadership Team meetings and agenda items and set up the meetings.

· Support line manager to prepare agendas, co-ordinate timely pre-read papers, write minutes, and track agreed actions.

· Maintain consistent Terms of Reference across all Board Committees.

· Provide administrative support to the line manager and Board with recruitment, induction, performance management and succession planning for the Board and Board committees.

· Manage and maintain Trustee documentation to ensure that information is transparent, up to date and readily accessible.

· Provide administrative support to the line manager and Board Chair with a periodic review of the Board, its value and behaviours, practice and operations.

Compliance:

· Ensure compliance with requirements and guidelines of Charity Commission, Companies House and other regulatory bodies.

· Coordinate the narrative, design and approval of the Annual Report and Accounts.

· Ensure appropriate governance information reflected in external communications.

· Ensure full and accurate reporting provided to grant funders.

Governance and risk management

· Support governance within the functions, and ensuring appropriate guidance and advice provided from those functions to the wider team.

· Manage and maintain risk registers across the departments.

Approach

· Comply with relevant legislation and regulation ensuring that good practice is observed.

· Understand and support the vision, mission and aims of NZF.

· Adhere to and champion NZF’s policy and practices on safeguarding.

· Ensure the approach is coordinated with key stakeholders across the organisation.

The Finance Assistant will support the Senior Finance Manager and Finance and Operations Director. They will be responsible for all aspects of sale, purchase and nominal ledger, credit control, payments and various reconciliations. General management account duties will also be required

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain the shared inbox and respond to queries to internal and external contacts in a timely and courteous manner.
• Log purchase invoices into the finance system and request authorisation from budget holders, ensuring that documentation is complete and correct.
• Issue all sales invoices and maintain funders invoicing schedule.
• Request and reconcile supplier statements.
• Ensure finance policies are followed for the set-up of new customers and suppliers.
• Support internal team with expense reimbursements, including maintaining the expenses software and relevant reconciliations. Follow up on missing documentation or evidence of non-compliance.
• Prepare weekly payment runs and issue remittance advices.
• Issue statements to customers and regular credit control activities.
• Check ledgers for missing costs. Identify and resolve missing costs or discrepancies in ledgers.
• Complete reconciliations to ensure payments are allocated and accounted for correctly.
• Reconciliations between the Salesforce and accounting system Assist with month-end and other management accounts functions.
• Support the finance team with other ad-hoc tasks, such as posting journals, payroll and annual audit.
