We place people with endometriosis at the heart of all we do. If we get our work right, we really can make a difference to the 1.5 million women and those assigned female at birth with endometriosis in the UK – and all those diagnosed in the future.
This will be a busy, varied and important role working closely with the Head of Campaigns and Communications to identify opportunities to influence external policy to better support and represent the needs of those with endometriosis. You will be working as part of a passionate team with a strong commitment to achieving change to help those with living with endometriosis. Fixed term (12 months), full-time (37.5 hours per week)
Hybrid working with regular travel to our London Bridge Office
What the job involves
This is an exciting new role in Prostate Cancer UK’s Health Information and Clinical Support team. The team delivers a wide range of high-quality services directly to anyone affected by prostate cancer or prostate disease, as well as supporting a range of activity charity-wide that requires clinical expertise.
Many men, and their friends and family, don’t know the risk factors of prostate cancer – and when they do, they don’t know what to do next. We want a world where every man over 45 in the UK understands their risk of prostate cancer and has the tools and information to navigate it. Our online risk checker is a good place to start, but this role will be a crucial additional source of information for men and their loved ones.
As a Risk Information Officer, you’ll deliver the charity’s pilot Risk Information Service, providing information and support to men at risk of prostate cancer, and their loved ones, via the telephone. This is a non-clinical role, but you’ll discuss callers’ risk of prostate cancer along the lines of the predominant risk factors (age, ethnicity, family history and BRCA gene status). If necessary, you’ll also support them to seek a PSA blood test from their GP and on occasion routing callers who have more complex clinical questions back to the Specialist Nurse service.
You’ll play a key role in developing the pilot – contributing to conversations and decisions around how to adjust and improve the service in its early months. You’ll also report back on your calls, to help the charity develop its broader understanding of information and support needs when it comes to prostate cancer risk and the PSA blood test.
Reporting into the Clinical Services Senior Officer, you’ll have close and regular contact with assigned Specialist Nurses so that you feel at ease in sharing prostate cancer related information with callers, and in maintaining the boundaries and scope of the service day-to-day.
This is a service pilot with the Risk Information Officer role being a fixed term for the duration, with the potential to make the role permanent based on the pilot’s success.
What we want from you
You’ll be a compassionate and resilient communicator; you may be speaking to a caller who is anxious about their risk of prostate cancer. You’ll be a great listener, hearing callers concerns and offering a supportive and empathetic response. Although this is a non-clinical role, with your existing understanding of the healthcare system in the UK, you’ll be willing to learn the basic knowledge of prostate cancer and use the appropriate associated terminology.
You’ll be comfortable in handling more complex conversations, but with self-awareness to recognise your limitations in offering support and recognising clear boundaries of guidance being provided and be able to direct to our Specialist Nurses when needed.
Experience in using a CRM system will be advantageous in this role and any experience with a helpline or providing support or information over the phone will be beneficial in your role.
Why work with us?
Every man needs to know about the most common cancer in men – prostate cancer. It’s a real and present danger that takes over 12,000 of our dads, grandads, brothers and friends each year.
Prostate Cancer UK is the largest men’s health charity in the UK. We have a simple ambition – to stop prostate cancer damaging lives. We invest millions in research to revolutionise testing, treatment and care. We’re blazing a trail to a screening programme that could save thousands of lives with regular, accurate tests for all men at risk. And we work tirelessly to spread the word about risk and offer specialist support to people living with the disease.
Work with us and you’ll see your efforts pay off as we give men and their families the power to navigate prostate cancer.
Our commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion
At Prostate Cancer UK, we believe that equity, diversity and inclusion are essential to building a strong and innovative workplace that represents, and can advocate for, the communities we support.
It’s our ambition to become an anti-racist organisation, and our mission to advance racial equity in the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer.
We’re continuously learning more about the needs of our colleagues, and have three amazing People Networks, sponsored by our Leadership team: Pride, Mind & Body and Multicultural.
Ways of working
Our hybrid working approach combines the best of flexible working – a positive work/life balance, inclusive and accessible platforms, and online information at our fingertips.

Prostate Cancer UK is a registered charity in England and Wales (1005541) and in Scotland (SC039332). Registered company number 02653887.
The Senior Finance Officer will sit at the heart of our Operations Team, reporting to the Head of Operations and the Co-CEOs and playing a crucial function in ensuring the efficient day-to-day management of the organisation’s financial functions.
This will include all day-to-day management of our financial systems and banking, including our accountancy software (Quickbooks) and our internal financial spreadsheets. This involves recording and tracking the income expected from funders, processing invoices and payments, preparing payroll and producing monthly reconciliations and termly budgets. You will also research, advise and steer on both necessary changes to our processes, policies and procedures and standalone project work which may involve tasks such as reviewing our pensions processes or any savings and investments. You will understand and enjoy the challenge that working at a charity with multiple complex funding streams brings.
You will have experience of similar work, ideally in the charity sector and will be familiar with the use of both accountancy software and managing cashflows and budgets using Excel. You will have excellent communication and people skills as well as a proactive approach to problem solving and be methodical with a very keen attention to detail.

Play a leading role in ensuring every child can flourish in their school and community.
About us
West London Zone is an award-winning charity that proactively identifies children at a tipping point of need in some of the UK’s most under-resourced neighbourhoods. Working in schools through tailored Impact Programmes we support each child’s Social, Emotional, and Academic progress to drive a SEA change, promoting positive community change.

Following eight years of impact for children and families in west London via an innovative partnership model – involving young people, families, schools (50+), local authorities (4), charities and community organisations (50+) – our next 3-year plan takes us to a £10m charity committed to pursuing more and broader social change across our communities in three places and having a national influence.
Since our launch in 2016, we have helped over 4,500 children and young people to build the relationships, self-belief and skills they need to get on track to flourish into adulthood. However, we have ambitions plans to help more children and young people.

Ensuring we have the highest quality governance, business planning, finance, compliance and risk management functions, as well as robust systems, processes and policies to do our best work will be vital. To achieve this, you will be responsible for bringing together some of our existing functions and building a new team within the organisation.
About you
We seek an experienced strategic leader who has held a broad finance and operations position, with a track record of interacting at Board level and presenting clear financial and management information.
