About the role

This is a key role in the Finance, People & Operations team, ensuring SIA operates smoothly, safely and compliantly. You’ll lead on compliance, the maintenance and security of SIA House IT, and sustainability - making sure our systems and structures support our national network effectively.

Key responsibilities include:

Leadership:

• Play an active role in SIA’s management team, contributing to cross-departmental projects.
• Engage in staff, management, and trustee meetings, helpful shape SIA’s operational effectiveness.
• Champion organisation planning and drive the achievement of strategic goals.

Operations and Facilities:

• Oversee and maintenance, security and efficiency of SIA House, ensuring value for money in supplier contracts.
• Ensure effective short, medium, and long-term planning and management of the operations budgets.
• Lead on health & safety compliance, and ensure all policies are up to date.
• Drive sustainability initiatives and lead our staff sustainability group.
• Create and maintain the organisation’s business continuity plan.

IT:

• Lead IT strategy, ensuring systems meet the organisation’s needs.
• Oversee IT provision, staff training, and cyber security in collaboration with our Managed Security Service provider.

Compliance:

• Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, including health & safety and data protection.
• Act as the designated officer for complaints, and compliance-related issues.
• Keep up to date with UK regulatory changes and ensure SIA remains compliant.
• Support risk management and report compliance matters to senior leadership and the board.
• Coordinator and deliver compliance training for staff, trustees, and volunteers.

Background

Congenital Heart Disease affects 1 in 125 newborn babies, it is the most common condition at birth. Around 17,000 babies, children and adults are treated by the Leeds Congenital Heart Unit (LCHU) every year. The LCHU is the specialist heart centre for all of Yorkshire, The Humber, North East Lincolnshire and North Derbyshire.

Children’s Heart Surgery Fund (CHSF) provide tailored emotional, financial and practical support and essential resources to heart patients and their families. When families need us most, CHSF provide parent accommodation close to the hospital and a dedicated family support service during a child’s treatment. CHSF also provide vital medical equipment and resources to the Leeds Congenital Heart Unit and 19 regional clinics, including start-up NHS staff roles and specialist training across the network.

CHSF is a completely self-funded charity. Together, we are able to nurture a wonderful community of children, young people, adults and their families affected by congenital heart disease to live empowered lives.

Job Summary

As Fundraising Researcher you'll be responsible for proactively researching potential funders including corporate foundations and community funds, charitable trusts and other organisations to support our ambitious fundraising team. Working closely with the Trusts & Foundations Manager and Corporate Partnership Managers you'll ensure fundraising activity is supported across the organisation with robust research.

Role and Responsibilities

1. Research and identify charitable trusts and foundations, corporate, government and other funding opportunities that align with CHSF’s mission, vision and values.

2. Use prospect research tools and techniques to collate detailed prospect information e.g. business insider bulletins, directories, websites, AI etc.

3. Compile key information about each funding opportunity, including deadlines, eligibility criteria, application questions, and funder priorities, in a structured format.

4. Assist in reviewing and prioritising potential funding opportunities based on suitability for CHSF.

5. Support with impact monitoring and reporting to funders and corporate partners, including liaising with staff at the Leeds Congenital Heart Unit to collect information.

6. Organise and archive past grant applications, ensuring a structured and accessible digital filing system.

7. Support the team by keeping funding research up to date and easy to access for future applications.

8. Collaborate with finance/fundraising teams to ensure grant research aligns with fundraising priorities.

9. Work with the Marketing Team to promote funding received to meet the requirements of the funder.

10. Strong understanding of due diligence, data protection and fundraising regulations.

1. To work flexibly as required by the needs of the service and carry out any other reasonable duties as required.

2. To prepare for and participate in monthly supervision sessions with your line manager.

3. To help promote CHSF fundraising opportunities, where appropriate and work with the fundraising team on new initiatives.

4. Adhere to charity’s policies and procedures.

5. To provide other support as identified by your line manager and commensurate with purpose of the role.

This new Fundraising Lead role is central to our strategy - designed to secure sustainable income through community engagement, partnerships, and bold, values-aligned funding. Key Responsibilities

Fundraising & income generation 

· Trusts & grants: Research, write, and submit compelling funding applications to trusts, foundations, and grant-making bodies to secure new and repeat funding.

· Corporate & individual giving: Work alongside Service Delivery Manager and Deputy Service Manager to develop relationships with corporate sponsors and individual donors, creating engagement opportunities.

· Donor stewardship: Manage and nurture relationships with funders, ensuring timely reporting and impact updates.

· Donor stewardship: Provide timely and effective follow-up communications with supporters, ensuring they feel valued and engaged.

· Fundraising strategy: Support the development and implementation of WSUP’s fundraising strategy, identifying new opportunities for income growth.

· Event fundraising: Assist in planning and delivering fundraising events to engage supporters and raise unrestricted funds

· Financial oversight: Work with the CEO to develop fundraising budgets and ensure accurate income tracking.

· Financial oversight: Process cash and cheque donations for Community & Events income, including ensuring this income is processed and recorded accurately on our database which may include batch uploads.

· Campaigns & appeals: Develop and implement online fundraising campaigns, such as Winter Appeal or emergency appeals.

· Storytelling & impact reporting: Work with Communication Lead to share real-life stories that showcase WSUP’s work.

Person Specification

Essential skills & experience

· Fundraising knowledge: Understanding of trust, foundation, and corporate fundraising, with proven experience of writing successful grant applications.

· Communication skills: Strong written and verbal communication, with the ability to craft compelling proposals and reports.

· Relationship management: Ability to build relationships with funders, donors, and stakeholders at various levels.

· Organisational skills: Ability to prioritise workload, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

· IT proficiency: Strong skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), databases, AI tools and social media scheduling tools.

· Financial literacy: Ability to create fundraising budgets and financial reports.

· Compliance: Knowledge of fundraising legislation, including Gift Aid and GDPR compliance.

Desirable skills & experience

· Experience in a small charity setting, ideally within the homelessness or health-related sector, understanding the challenges and opportunities of grassroots fundraising.

· Experience organising donor engagement events or corporate sponsorship opportunities.

· Proven ability to use videos and infographics to enhance fundraising campaigns.

· Social media: Experience using social media for fundraising and engagement, with an understanding of digital marketing principles.

· Experience with volunteer management or coordinating fundraising volunteers.
