HR Business Partner

Salary: Starting at £36,477 FTE per annum, rising to £40,699* FTE per annum, Grade 4 (point 29-33)

Location: Ideally based in Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire or Greater London (north) with the ability to travel within this region when required.

Hours: Full-time (37 hours per week)

We are flexible on hours of work and open to discussing part-time hours and other flexible working options - it is expected that for the period 3-9 months after the role begins, travel to an office base in the above listed regions will be required 2-3 times per week. Before and after this period of time, we are open to this role being home-based or hybrid working. This will be discussed in more detail with the successful applicant.

Main Responsibilities:

· You will partner with managers from across the organisation, building strong relationships and ensuring that they are confident and capable in people management.

· You will be the key HR contact for these managers and will foster an excellence team reputation, supporting them to forward plan and think strategically about their people.

· You will advise and coach managers on complex people management issues, including disciplinary and grievances.

· You will take the lead on complex change management processes such as TUPE transfers and restructuring, working flexibly and inter-departmentally alongside our Services and Implementation teams.

· You will support the Head of HR and wider HR and People team to deliver on a range of exciting projects and developments over the next year, as specified in our HR strategy, and reviewing our policies and people practices to ensure they are fit for purpose and in line with current best practice. 

· You will be an excellent communicator with experience of providing high-level advice and support in a solution focused way.

Key responsibilities will include the following: 

• Work with the Board and Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to assess capacity gaps across the organisation and how best to fill them.
• Manage all aspects of the employee lifecycle (recruitment, onboarding and offboarding).
• Provide support, guidance, and advice for managers in conducting and concluding employee relations cases, including absence, performance management, disciplinary and grievance cases, ensuring adherence to policy.

• Be independent point of contact for entire team for all welfare and professional issues, providing guidance on support available.
• Support Synchronicity Earth’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Working Group. 
• Review our staff handbook, and company HR policies and procedures ensuring they are regularly reviewed and updated to reflect relevant legislation and best practice. 
• Be first point of contact with HR & HSE consultants. 
• Identify and implement (subject to budget) suitable HR systems that will help to automate Synchronicity Earth’s’ processes and lead to greater self-service of HR matters.

About you 

Essential skills and experience 

• Level 5 CIPD qualified.
• A proven track record in managing UK HR function.
• Experience of developing new policies and procedures for an organisation in line with current best practice in the UK.
• Experience of supporting individuals to develop their skill base and careers.

Waterloo Community Counselling (WCC) offers life-changing accessible and affordable counselling in the heart of London and is a small charity that has a big impact! We are one of only a handful of Low-Cost Counselling services offering weekly therapy at reduced fees, or for free. We reach adults from diverse backgrounds and our unique Multi-Ethnic Counselling Service (MECS) provides free mother-tongue counselling to migrants, refugees and asylum seekers who have survived exile, torture, human trafficking and modern slavery in 30 languages.

WCC has gone through a period of transformation and operational improvements over the past 2 years which has increased the charity’s financial and organisational resilience. We are now looking for a Finance Manager who will join a well-developed team and be responsible for embedding the progress made and identifying further areas for improvement.

About the role of Finance Manager

The Finance Manager is a core member of WCC's management team and is a key advisor and partner to the CEO on all areas of finance.  The post-holder will have responsibility for timely and efficient management of the day-to-day accounting function and all internal and external financial reporting.  Reporting directly to the CEO this role is part of a friendly, highly productive and collaborative, dedicated clinical and operational staff team of ten.

It is a varied and senior position that is part time, 3 days per week, and we are happy to discuss how the hours are worked over the week. It’s hybrid, working a minimum of one day per week in our Waterloo office. The salary is £45,000 to £48,000 pro rata, depending on experience.

The successful candidate will:

• Be a Fully Qualified Accountant (CIMA, ACCA, ACA, ICAEW etc).
• Have 5+ years PQE, preferably with charity sector/ fund accounting experience.
• Able to demonstrate working independently and as finance lead.

What the job involves

We're looking for a Workplace Health and Safety Manager to join our vibrant charity. This is a diverse and interesting role. You’ll play a key role in the safe and smooth running of our office, compliance, health and safety as well as facilities administration. As a ‘go to’ Workplace manager at the charity you’ll spend a few days a week working out of our London Office. You’ll be the expert in your field and will help to train and coach others to ensure they meet legal requirements when running fundraising and volunteer events. The role manages a co-ordinator to assist in running our 1-floor office in London Bridge.

You’ll have input in developing our Health and Safety policies, risk assessments, and be available to investigate any incidents.

You’ll get to work with a number of colleagues from across the organisation – from supporting the People Team to plan inductions of new starters to helping the Experience Team plan office events.

As a manager, you’ll manage one co-ordinator and the budget for the department. You'll be a key contact with contractors and build our relationship with them. You'll manage processes for ordering supplies, arranging logistics of work from home equipment and purchase orders.

To be successful in this role, you’ll have extensive experience in workplace and health and safety roles or office facilities, supported by a recognised qualification. You’ll also proven experience in developing and implementing effective processes to embed a safe workplace culture.

You’ll be able to work unsupervised and be a creative thinker using your own initiative. This role requires proactivity, problem solving and prioritisation skills. 

You’ll interact with lots of different people (internal and external stakeholders) on a daily basis and be an excellent communicator. You’ll be working with a diverse group of people and will need to be able to put across complex information in an understandable way. You’ll be able to create excellent working relationships with suppliers, building staff and charity colleagues.

Your Role

• Strategic and operational financial management experience, including; financial process, income and expenditure management, reporting, year-end, audit, statutory and management account production, establishing and monitoring effective financial controls
• An understanding of the charity environment and wider landscape
• Experience of costing projects with a full-cost recovery approach
• Ability to plan and prioritise own and others work to set deadlines, with good time management skills
• High level of IT competency to support your role, including the use of technology and Microsoft Office
• Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills and team working
• A commitment to personal growth, continuous development, and application of learning

You may also have:

• Up-to-date knowledge of charity SORP regulations and requirements (highly desirable)
• Experience of payroll and pensions
• Ability to lead, motivate and develop people

About the team

Kinship is in the third year of delivering the first national peer support service for kinship carers in England. We have created 145 peer support groups and supported and trained kinship carers to create and lead their groups in a way which meets their needs.

With a new contract from the Department for Education, we’re now entering a new phase of our service with a focus on:

• creating 90 new sustainable peer support groups in areas of most need over 21 months;
• sustaining and developing the current 145 existing groups; and
• providing support and help to build a sustainable and welcoming community for all peer support groups across England.

This role will mobilise, develop and innovate our existing offer into a new Peer Support Hub with the focus on supporting sustainability and building resilience of peer support groups and their leaders. You will support and build our Kinship peer support community.

You’ll work with group leaders to develop a central hub of accessible and useful resources to help them to sustain their groups, working with colleagues right across Kinship to promote consistent access to services and activities (training, programmes, information, advice and campaigns), building a joined-up user experience.

About the role

The role of the Peer Support Hub Lead is to oversee and take accountability for sustaining kinship peer support groups across England in priority areas as part of a new hub and spoke delivery model.

In this context, your team is the centralised ‘hub’ of the service, delivering an exciting programme of training, speakers, toolkits and resources to help peer support group leaders develop, build and sustain their group well.

Your national team of three will make sure groups feel connected and supported, learn from each other and build a powerful and resilient peer community.

The type of person we’re looking for:

Dynamic and people-centred, this role is about developing a supportive community of peer support groups nationally. You’ll understand the power of relationships and be an excellent communicator. You’ll understand how communities hold their own power and your team will help unlock that. Innovation is key to the success of the Hub and you’ll ensure you’re using best practice and learning to develop it.

An excellent communicator, you’ll develop external partnerships to support group sustainability. You’ll ensure through the National Peer Support Connector role that peer communities are connected and engaging with the new National Kinship Care Ambassador.

You’ll be comfortable with using digital technology and tools to build communities and develop resources.

Key responsibilities include:

• Ongoing innovation of the Hub service, embedding best practice, digital innovation and learning to develop a thriving peer community.

• Develop, deliver and take accountability including strategic oversight for an annual operational plan for the peer support hub.

• Work with Head of Marketing to develop an integrated promotional plan.

• Work with Head of Network Development to coordinate national partnerships.

Essential requirements include:

• Experience in delivering a high-profile national service or programme. This includes overseeing delivery, operational planning, monitoring, budgeting, managing delivery, meeting KPIs, stakeholder engagement and reporting to funders.

• Experience of effective budget management.

• Experience working in a role focused on one or more of the following areas; communications (including digital communications) or marketing.

• Significant experience of developing and delivering successful community engagement strategies.

About Myaware

Myaware is the only charity in the UK dedicated solely to the care and support of people living with myasthenia.  

Myasthenia means muscle weakness. The myasthenias are a group of neuromuscular conditions including myasthenia gravis, ocular myasthenia, Lambert-Eaton myasthenic syndrome and congenital myasthenic syndrome.

· We work to raise awareness of myasthenia, as it is a little-known condition.

· We provide support services for people living with myasthenia and their families. These include welfare advice, online support groups and webinars, social media peer support groups and support and information via telephone and email.

· We raise vital awareness and campaign for better medical services for people with myasthenia and work to inform medical professionals.

· Myaware funds research that brings us closer to finding a cure as well as funding specialists nurses and advisors. 

About the role

The Chief Executive Officer will provide strategic guidance and oversight, ensure operational efficiency and sustainability, and maintain the organisation's commitment to serving the myasthenia community.

Your responsibilities in the role will include:

· Advising and working with the Chair and Trustees on the strategic direction of the charity and implementing board decisions,

· Leading by example and embodying Myaware values of respect, passion, collaboration, integrity and sustainability,

· Networking across the sector and raising the profile of the charity and people living with myasthenia across the nations where Myaware operates,

· Delivering effective management and administration of the organisation,

· Leading a fantastic team of colleagues, supporting their work and development and displaying emotional intelligence and leadership.

· Providing a clear vision and promoting the mission, aims and objective of Myaware and leading delivering the budget, an ambitious fundraising strategy and organisational direction.

Location: Remote, with regular attendance at offices in Derby

QAC is a charity that runs a college, supported living (known as Independence Plus) and community services for young adults with learning difficulties and disabilities.

The College has been at its current location since 1903. Our original purpose was to provide education for young people who were blind or visually impaired. The marketing and communications team is responsible for marketing QAC services with the main focus being on student recruitment. Following a recent re-brand, the post holder will also be integral in ensuring an efficient and effective roll out of the new branding.

BACKGROUND

The Helen Bamber Foundation (HBF) is a pioneering Human Rights charity supporting refugees and asylum seekers who are the survivors of trafficking and torture, including gender-based and ‘honour-based’ violence. Recognising the complexity of each client’s suffering and needs, the Foundation provides specialist medical consultation, therapeutic care, legal protection and practical support to survivors of human rights violations by helping men, women and children heal the emotional and physical damage they have suffered through torture, trafficking or other forms of cruelty.  We take the learning from our work to develop partnerships to increase survivors’ access to services, and use the learning generated by our clients and partners to drive system change.

Since August 2020, Asylum Aid has been part of the Helen Bamber Foundation Group. Asylum Aid operates as an independent charity, led by its own Executive Director within the group structure, and is ambitious about growing its impact and reach in the future to ensure protection from persecution for those who need it.  For over thirty years, Asylum Aid has been providing legal representation to some of the most vulnerable people seeking asylum. OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are hiring for a second People and Culture/HR Business Partner to join our Generalist P&C team! In this role you will own generalist human resource activities, using a comprehensive understanding of the HR processes. You will educate others with your knowledge of employment law and experience to support in employee relations cases, organisational change projects, and other activities as required. You will advise, support, and guide managers and colleagues on a wide range of topics.

The Generalist human resources team is currently a team of 4, the Head of P&C, P&C Business Partner, P&C Advisor, and P&C Administrator. You will report into the Head of P&C. The wider People and Culture/HR team includes the Talent Acquisition Team, Workforce Development, and Talent Development team. Employee Lifecycle

• Provide advice and guidance on policies, procedures, and employment legislation.
• Monitor, review and report on key people metrics to inform and enhance the delivery of the P&C team and activities.

Other Responsibilities

• Work collaboratively with the wider P&C team to develop and amplify employee voice through the organisation, and support with various other activities and projects within the team.
• Support management of data and workflows within the HR Information System (HRIS).
• Take ownership of the HRIS to some degree, identify changes to be made, ensure the system management is running smoothly.
• Support with the progression and communication of policies and procedures.
• Build and manage strong relations throughout the organisation and externally.

KEY CRITERIA

What we are looking for:

• Proven experience in a similar role and/or taking on similar level responsibilities
• Experience in coaching and advising managers and colleagues in areas such as employee relations activities across the full lifecycle, performance management, absence management, and other alike areas
• Working knowledge and understanding of HR procedures and basic employment law practices, and how it applies under UK employment legislation
• Line Management experience, or demonstrated leadership skills and abilities
• IT Proficiency, ability to learn new software programs, advanced knowledge in Microsoft, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Ability and willingness to attend regular visits to our different service locations

What we would like, but not essential:

• CIPD Qualification Level 5
• Experience using data to make informed decisions and reports effectively

Grant management 

• Act as the first point of contact for grants to organisations.

This pivotal role encompasses Counsellor and Supervisor recruitment, placement and co-ordination, client referrals, acting as Safeguarding Lead and overseeing the evaluation and development of the counselling service in conjunction with the Administration team and Board of Trustees.
