The Legal Director is a newly created senior leadership role and will lead and shape Release’s legal services, setting the strategic direction and ensuring the delivery of high‑quality, client‑centred representation. The role will expand access to justice through strong legal aid provision, embed harm reduction principles across all legal work, and uphold rigorous regulatory and ethical standards. It will also play a key role in sustaining Release’s commitment to training and developing the next generation of social justice lawyers.
This pivotal post combines oversight of a multidisciplinary legal team with movement‑driven advocacy and strategic litigation. The Legal Director will identify and pursue high‑impact cases to challenge unlawful policies and drive systemic change, while building strong external relationships with affected communities, policymakers, and partners. Working collaboratively, the role will co‑create innovative models of legal support that respond to emerging needs and amplify the voices of people most affected by drug laws and wider structural injustice.
As Legal Director, you will:
Set Strategic Direction: Define and implement strategies to expand legal aid provision, improve access to justice, and embed harm reduction principles across all legal work.
Lead and Inspire: Oversee a multidisciplinary team of solicitors, legal advisers, and volunteers, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and innovation.
Ensure Excellence and Compliance: Maintain rigorous regulatory standards whilst driving forward progressive, client-centred approaches to legal practice.
Advance Systemic Change through Strategic Litigation: Identify and pursue high-impact cases to influence legislation, challenge unlawful policies, and dismantle barriers to justice for people who use drugs and other marginalised communities.

Person Specification
Essential
- Minimum 9 years + post qualified solicitor with a current practising certificate, and
- Minimum 7 years + significant experience in legal aid supervision and regulatory compliance, and

The role:
The Policy and Public Affairs Lead for Devolved Nations will drive CoSRH’s engagement and policy work in Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. This key strategic liaison role will support the Director of External Affairs in enabling delivery of the CoSRH’s Hatfield Vision across all UK nations, and in supporting CoSRH members and interests in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
For this new role, we are seeking an experienced and forward-looking individual interested in developing the strategic and influencing work of CoSRH in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, and in ensuring that CoSRH represents members and their interests across the UK.
Who we are:
The College of Sexual and Reproductive (CoSRH) is the leader in the field of sexual and reproductive healthcare, and we are the voice for professionals working in this area. As a multi-disciplinary professional membership organisation, we set clinical guidance and standards, provide training and lifelong education, and champion safe and effective sexual and reproductive healthcare across the life course for all.
Key tasks:
a. Stakeholder engagement:
- Lead CoSRH’s stakeholder engagement programme in Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales - influencing policy debate, contributing to building internal capacity on devolved and regional issues, and in building key relationships.
- Collaborate with colleagues across CoSRH to develop and deliver a strategic programme of engagement across Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, ensuring that the work of member committees in devolved nations feeds into wider CoSRH activity, inclusive of the Hatfield Vision, and that the CoSRH President maintains appropriate oversight at Taskforce level.
- Manage internal and external relationships with key individuals and organisations including parliamentarians, civil servants and policymakers in the devolved governments of Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales; staff and member representatives of sister organisations like British Association for Sexual Health and HIV and Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists, and nation-specific networks and collaborative groups such as Cross-Party Group for Women’s Health in Scotland, and Women’s Health Wales.
- Develop, deliver, and evaluate plans for specific areas of policy and stakeholder engagement work, including influencing decision-makers, building, and strengthening support among key regional and national stakeholders in the devolved nations.
- Working in collaboration with the Director of External Affairs and Chairs of the CoSRH Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland Committees, to represent CoSRH at a variety of conferences, meetings, and events across the three devolved nations.
b. Policy, Public Affairs & Partnership Building
- Monitor the external environment for issues that may impact on SRH, and help identify, analyse and grasp opportunities to influence policy and public opinion relevant to CoSRH’s work within the three devolved nations, outlining CoSRH’s position/response to policy and public opinion developments.
- Develop and oversee the effective monitoring of parliamentary activity in the devolved nations in relation to sexual and reproductive healthcare and related interests.
- Produce policy briefings for the organisation’s leadership including President, Officers and CEO as relevant.
- Advise on, assimilate evidence for and produce responses to external consultations issued by Government departments and other relevant agencies across the three devolved nations, consulting with members and drawing on relevant policy documents.
- Engage with CoSRH members, policy makers and the public across the three devolved nations including supporting the CoSRH Media and Communications Manager role where necessary, helping with media and social media output.
c. Committee support
- Work with the CoSRH External Affairs & Membership & Engagement Teams to provide secretariat support as required to CoSRH’s member committees in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
- As required, work with the CoSRH External Affairs & Membership & Engagement Teams as well as devolved nation chairs to develop and implement meetings and their agendas, record actions and discuss strategic approaches to the delivery of actions with relevant leaders.

Strategy Development
- Develop and deliver an ambitious legacy and in-memory giving strategy and operational plan, driving sustainable income growth and achieving KPIs.

Management of Legacy Programme
- Responsible for ensuring legacy programme meets annual targets, with appropriate stretch targets in place.
- Work collaboratively across all Income streams, Communications and Impact to drive growth in the identification and cultivation of new legacy pledgers.
- Organise legacy events to support cultivation and stewardship of legacy givers.
- Work with Retail to embed legacy messaging in our charity shops and use in‑store activity to grow awareness and legacy leads.
- Provide exceptional stewardship of legacy pledgers individually and collectively, through the development and implementation of a legacy stewardship programme.
- Sensitively and expertly co-ordinate with the legacy administration function (which is outsourced), including regular communication with our professional legacy advisor, exploring and initiating stewardship and impact reporting activities.
- Collaborate on and personally take steps to maximise existing initiatives such as Gifts in Will month and identify new opportunities to market legacies and grow pledgers.
- Lead on developing and leading initiatives to improve awareness of legacies amongst charity staff, volunteers, charity shop customers and the Board.

About the Investment Team
The Investment Team is responsible for selecting portfolio partners, managing our charity investments and supporting our portfolio partners to improve and scale their impact.
The Investment Team also leads the Impetus Leadership Academy, a leadership development programme to support talent from ethnic minority backgrounds in the UK youth sector to progress into senior leadership roles.

We’re seeking a proactive and highly organised individual to lead the delivery and quality assurance of our national specialty training programme in Community Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare (CSRH). As Training Programme Lead, you’ll play a central role in supporting CSRH trainees, upholding curriculum standards, and ensuring compliance with the regulatory requirements of the General Medical Council (GMC). You’ll also guide doctors pursuing specialist registration through alternative routes, such as the GMC’s Portfolio Pathway, ensuring these processes are fair, transparent, and effective. Acting as the key liaison between trainees, educators, regulators, and other stakeholders across the UK, you’ll help shape the future workforce in this vital area of healthcare. Your Mission
-
Working closely with the Digital Marketing Manager and Social Challenges Manager, the role will support day-to-day paid social delivery on Meta, using data, insight and testing to continuously improve results.
Responsibilities
Paid Social for Social Challenges (c.50% of role)

Build, manage and optimise paid social campaigns on Meta to recruit participants into CALM’s Social Challenges.

Translate campaign objectives into effective audience targeting, creative testing plans and budget allocation.

Monitor performance daily, adjusting ads, audiences and spend to maximise lead volume, quality and cost-efficiency.

Analyse campaign results, using platform data and internal insight to understand what’s driving high-value participants.

Produce clear, actionable performance reports and recommendations for optimisation.
Campaign & Cross-Team Collaboration

Work closely with the Digital Marketing Manager to support digital marketing activity across the organisation, including paid and organic social.

Partner with the Social Challenges Manager to understand audience motivations, challenge mechanics and supporter journeys.

Collaborate with CALM’s studio team to brief, test and refine creative that performs and stays on-brand.

Feed performance insight back into campaign planning, proposition development and supporter experience.
Testing, Learning & Optimisation

Implement structured testing across creative, copy, audiences and formats to improve performance over time.

Use learnings from each campaign to inform future challenges and evergreen activity.

Keep up to date with changes to Meta advertising, tracking, privacy and best practice, flagging risks and opportunities early.
Wider Digital Support

Support wider digital marketing activity as required, including other paid digital channels and acquisition campaigns.

Provide day-to-day cover for the Digital Marketing Manager during periods of leave, ensuring paid social campaigns continue to run smoothly and effectively.

Support delivery of core marketing activity as required, including organic social, campaign optimisation, and reporting.

Provide practical cover for the Social Media Manager when needed, supporting scheduling, publishing and basic community management to maintain a consistent social presence.

Work with content colleagues to support drafting and optimising web and social content.

Act as a reliable point of contact for digital marketing activity during absences, escalating issues appropriately.

Contribute to improving CALM’s use of data, attribution and performance insight across digital fundraising.
Your profile
Essential
-
Hands-on experience managing paid social advertising on Meta.
-
Strong analytical skills and confidence working with performance data, metrics and insights.

Experience of testing and optimisation across creative, audiences and formats.

Ability to monitor social spend and deliver against clear targets.
-
Comfortable working across teams and balancing multiple priorities.
-
Strong written communication skills, with an understanding of what makes compelling ad copy.
Desirable

Experience in charity, fundraising or purpose-led marketing.

Familiarity with paid marketing funnels and supporter journeys.

Experience working with tracking, pixels and basic attribution concepts.

Experience working on organic social.

Copywriting experience across a range of channels.

Salary: £32,000 - £37,000
