As Portsmouth Cathedral continues its journey of growth and expansion, we seek a CFO who will not only ensure financial oversight and compliance but also drive strategic initiatives to foster financial sustainability. Your expertise will be instrumental in solidifying the Cathedral’s financial position, optimising its resources, and advancing our service to the community.   

Following the implementation of the Cathedrals’ Measure 2021, and the registration of Portsmouth Cathedral as a charity in March 2024, the new role of Chief Finance Officer, funded by the Cathedrals Sustainability Fund, will support Chapter, the Cathedral’s governing body, in offering strategic financial leadership. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the CFO will be part of the Senior Management Team (SMT) and will manage a small team and will oversee the operational processes and functions, and communicate the necessary assurances, information and reports to the Senior Management Team, Chapter and the Board of our to be established trading company periodically. This will involve communicating complex financial ideas and information to a range of stakeholders (mostly non-financial).   

The successful candidate will be CAEW, ACCA or CIMA Qualified or similar and be able to show continued professional and personal development .  They will have:

•  Demonstrable experience in strategic financial leadership, with a track record of leading financial governance, compliance, and team development.   

• Strong knowledge of VAT, tax planning, and advanced accounting practices.   

• Excellent verbal and written communicator with an enthusiastic can-do approach and the ability to convey complex financial information to diverse stakeholders clearly and effectively.   

• Experience of dealing with colleagues, trustees and stakeholders.  

• Excellent analytical and reporting skills, proficient in financial software and Microsoft Office Suite.   

• Familiarity with a multi-fund accounting software   

• Empathy with the ethos of the Church of England.

THE ROLE

The full-time Communications and Research Manager reports to the Chief Communications Officer, working to help inform the public about antisemitism using a variety of media.

You will be joining our small, fast-paced, entrepreneurial staff team based at our office in central London.

Responsibilities

• You will write and edit journalistic-quality articles about antisemitism, from crime to politics, including investigative pieces

About the role

You will play a key role in driving the continuous improvement and growth of our national partnership through deepening the quality and impact of our local collaboration hubs. You will be a subject matter expert in EDI and will be key to embedding EDI in decision making, ensuring we are compliant with legal requirements, delivering on our EDI objectives, anti-racism and disability equality commitments, key EDI projects, supporting colleagues with lived experience and contributing to a culture of belonging across the whole organisation. The role holder will be expected to have a knowledge of EDI legislation across the UK.

Are you passionate about creating impactful events and driving fundraising success? We're looking for an Events Manager, to develop and deliver innovative products and propositions that engage and mobilise individuals to fundraise for BHF.

As the Event Manager, you will oversee the development and end-to-end delivery of our product portfolio. This includes planning, marketing, the online journey, stewardship, on-the-day delivery, and evaluation.

Key areas of focus: 

• AJ Bell Great Run Series Partnership (60%):
  • Lead the delivery of BHF's official charity partnership with the AJ Bell Great Run Series 2025.
  • Collaborate with AJ Bell, Great Runs Company, and BHF teams to maximise fundraising, brand visibility, and PR opportunities.
• Virtual and Mass Participation Growth (40%):
  • Support the Product Delivery Team in driving growth and innovation.
  • Work with the Senior Product Manager to develop new products and enhance the existing portfolio.
  • Focus on product optimisation, life cycle management, exit strategies, and new product development to maximise ROI.

You'll effectively collaborate with other expert functions across the organisation is to ensure that activities are well planned, and project managed to meet/exceed financial and non-financial targets.

About you

As our ideal candidate, you bring experience of strategically developing and delivering mass participation events and activities to achieve growth ideally within a fundraising capacity.

With an excellent understanding of marketing techniques (especially digital) and knowledge of a broad range of innovative fundraising activities and principles, you have experience of managing and developing a diverse product portfolio. Using customer, market and financial data and insight you can make decisions to drive long term growth.

A strategic thinker with expertise managing commercial projects who can achieve objectives through analytical insights. You are agile and responsive to both internal and external factors with a knowledge of new and emerging technologies and trends in the events fundraising space. You also have the ability to interpret customer, market and financial data and insight to inform recommendations.

An excellent communicator and project manager, comfortable with juggling multiple, often conflicting priorities you'll work in matrix style across two key areas of the team.

Working arrangements

This is a 12-month fixed term contract. 
 
This is a blended role, where your work will be dual located between your home and our London office.

At BHF we believe in the power of being together, so our colleagues on hybrid contracts can expect to spend some time in their office, at least one day each week, on average. 

This position involves travel throughout the UK and occasional weekend working for event delivery (approximately 5 weekends per year). Time Off In Lieu (TOIL) will be provided for weekend work.

The role also co-leads safeguarding at Greenhouse Sports. As one of the charities Designated Safeguarding Leads you will take responsibility for ensuring that Greenhouse’s delivery has the safety and wellbeing of young people at its heart. 

Key Responsibilities:​

• Manage a portfolio of school partners, leading retention strategies and driving new partner negotiations forward.

• Lead on the resolution of issues as they arise and all partner contract negotiations.

• Act as Designated Safeguarding Lead, including liaising with external bodies (LADO, MASH) to support on-going cases. ​

• Maintain safeguarding logs and develop and deliver training.

• Oversee and improve policies and provide regular touch-points for staff.

• Ensure your knowledge of safeguarding and the education sector is up-to-date, including KCSIE as well as wider sector trends.​

Role Overview
The Partnerships and Development Manager role will support delivery on Nest Insight's fundraising strategy and help develop and maintain our funding partnerships, working closely with a supportive and collaborative team.
They will be responsible for:

- Day-to-day management of Nest Insight’s funding partnerships
- Researching and identifying new funding opportunities and new relationships to cultivate
- Helping to develop and coordinate funding proposals and presentations
- Coordination of funder reporting
- Supporting delivery on branding and crediting commitments and development of fundraising messages and materials
- Managing payment and reporting processes
- Internal championing of funders’ requirements and objectives; looking for opportunities to overdeliver, in line with our mission and values.
