This is a fundamental role within our South East regional team, internally the role is known as Local Community Officer.

The future of CCT’s outstanding collection of historic churches depends on communities supporting their local CCT church with funds, events, inspiring interpretation, visitor services and preventive conservation. The Local Community Officer will engage and support communities and volunteers to care for 26 historic churches across Northamptonshire, West Norfolk, and parts of North Bedfordshire and Western Cambridgeshire, including areas around Northampton, Bedford, Huntingdon, and King’s Lynn.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As the Project Officer for Dartmoor, you will deliver the Bike It Moor project, which forms part of the Dartmoor’s Dynamic Landscapes (DDL) programme. You will work in partnership and collaboration with other the DDL partners, who are also delivering projects as part of DDL, to accomplish shared objectives and targets. The DDL programme is led by Dartmoor National Park Authority (DNPA) and made possible by a grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.  Thanks to National Lottery players, we are able to offer this exciting new role.

You will engage and work with selected schools and their wider communities in the project areas, developing and delivering fun, engaging and innovative activities and events. These will be inclusive and promote and enable all forms of active travel (walking, cycling, scooting and wheeling) to school. 

You will plan and deliver practical skills (like cycle and scooter skills sessions, bike maintenance and led walks and rides), information events (such as assemblies, drop-in sessions, pop up stands), competitions, incentive programmes and classroom sessions. You will also plan and deliver day and overnight cycling and walking experiences, giving pupils the opportunity to explore and enjoy the local green landscape, immerse pupils in the natural heritage of the area.

You will report directly to the local Project Manager and will recruit, train and support local volunteers on the project, as well as engaging with project officers across the South region and the UK.

Due to the nature of the role, a full DBS is required to be completed by the successful person. Candidates should be based within the geographical area with regular travel expected.

ABOUT YOU

You should have experience of working with young people from a wide variety of backgrounds and be able to adapt your approach to meet varying needs. You must demonstrate evidence of planning and delivering engaging and interactive group workshops and activity sessions, as well as experience of events planning.

You will have experience of delivering successful behaviour change projects, ideally with a physical activity focus, and have an understanding of community based or environmental projects.

You will be a skilled communicator, with the ability to connect with different audiences ranging from children, parents, school staff and the wider community.

What does this role do?

This role will be prison based. We are The Bike Project, a charity that collects second-hand bikes, refurbishes them and donates them to refugees and people seeking asylum in the UK. That brings better health, freedom and independence to people rebuilding their lives in the UK. That’s vital when many are living on less than £10 a week.

A bike links people to essential services, including foodbanks and legal advice, as well as the local community. 

About Us

The Bike Project is an award-winning charity which refurbishes second hand bikes and donates them to refugees.  We were founded in 2013 by, Jem Stein, after he struck up a friendship and found a bike for Adam, a Darfuri refugee who had fled his home in Sudan after war broke out.

The Bike Project has grown into a national operation with new CEO, hundreds of volunteers, a team of 20 committed staff, roadshows in different cities, an online shop and two workshops, one in the capital and one in Birmingham.

To date we have supported over 15,000 refugees and people seeking asylum by giving them a second-hand bike. In addition, we have supported hundreds through our programmes designed to build confidence and build friendships in the local community.

Duites and Responsibilities

This role oversees the securing and reporting of our Trusts and Foundation income, including working closely with colleagues to develop relevant, impactful and deliverable funding proposals and coordinate the stewardship of key trust and foundation relationships.

The role works closely with all colleagues to ensure a joined-up approach to income generation across the charity and our different supporter groups. 

Skills and Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have demonstrable experience in preparing and submitting successful funding applications and proposals to charitable trusts and foundations, with a track record of securing five and six figure gifts, ideally within the refugee’s sector. You will have experience of working with, and applying for funding from, some of the larger grant organisations.

You will be experienced in identifying suitable prospects, developing pipelines, and managing funder relationships, adopting a strategic approach when working with colleagues across the organisation.

Location

This is a hybrid role, working from home with one day per week in either our London or Birmingham office. The salary is £42,000 for Birmingham-based employees and £45,000 for London-based employees, reflecting the London Living Wage adjustment

Day-to-day, you'll answer questions, solve problems, and steadily deepen your expertise whilst being the trusted specialist colleagues rely on. You'll create guides and resources that make the complex simple. You’ll run sessions that build skills and confidence, and work alongside the Systems Accountant to make our finance systems better, more integrated, and more effective. You'll collaborate with Unit4 specialists, our in-house IT colleagues, and Finance team members across the Society, managing your own priorities autonomously while being proactive in driving things forward.

About you:

You have a solid foundation in ERP environments and you're eager to develop your career. You're someone who thrives on solving problems, explaining complex matters clearly, and helping people feel confident using technology. You understand that great systems support isn't just about fixing issues. It's about empowering colleagues, improving processes, and driving consistent adoption of best practice.

You'll have:

- Experience working with an ERP system, with genuine curiosity to develop specialist knowledge (Unit4 experience is a bonus, but your appetite to learn matters most).
- Strong analytical skills and a knack for troubleshooting technical challenges, always thinking about practical solutions.
- A track record of building relationships and delivering excellent service or partnership, with a focus on improving how people experience and understand systems.
- Solid grounding in accounting or finance processes, ideally gained in a large organisation.
- Demonstrated ability to create clear guides, resources or training content that makes technical topics accessible.
- Confidence working independently while also thriving in collaborative environments, taking initiative and seeing things through.

What you’ll focus on:

- Being the primary contact for Unit4 and system queries, efficiently resolving issues and knowing when to escalate more complex challenges.
- Growing into a trusted Unit4 specialist by continuously expanding your knowledge and actively helping colleagues across the Society.
- Producing clear, helpful guides, FAQs and training resources that give colleagues the confidence to use our systems effectively.
- Running engagement and training sessions that boost understanding, capability and compliance with our finance systems.
- Working with the Systems Accountant on upgrades, testing and integration projects to ensure everything runs smoothly.
- Partnering with Finance colleagues and IT teams to monitor how systems perform, address issues quickly, and strengthen our single source of financial truth.
