We are Wales' most influential think tank. We are looking for up to four new people to join our team as several long-standing trustees stand down.

Trustees are responsible for all aspects of the Bevan Foundation’s business, although much of the day to day running is delegated to staff. Home-Start in Suffolk is seeking up to four individuals to join our Board of Trustees to offer strategic support and guidance to Home-Start in Suffolk. You will join a strong, committed Trustee Board and help strengthen further the breadth of experience.

• We want to ensure the voice of our clients is informing our governance and welcome applications from those with experience of our work this may be as a previously supported family or volunteer.
• We would like candidates with experience and strong expertise in marketing, networking, or expertise in volunteer management.

Role Summary

We are looking for a new Chair of Trustees who will offer strategic and supportive leadership to our highly effective, collaborative and committed Board.  The Chair leads the board, ensuring that it governs the charity effectively, in service of the charity's vision and mission.  The Chair leads in an inclusive way, supporting the Board to work together well, and providing support and challenge to the Chief Executive.  The Chair is also an ambassador for the charity.

Chair role & responsibilities 

Provide strategic leadership to the charity and the Board, ensuring that Glass Door achieves its mission with the interests of Glass Door's guests at its centre.

Work collaboratively with the CEO, staff and volunteers to achieve our mission and optimise the relationship between the Board and Glass Doors's staff and volunteers.

Provide leadership within the Board, ensuring that it fulfills its responsibilities for the governance of the organisation and promoting governance among fellow Trustees, providing clarity around boundaries between governance, management and operations.

Plan and chair the bi-monthly board meetings and the AGM, with colleagues as appropriate and liaise with the CEO, Company Secretary and Governance Trustee with regard to setting up meetings, agenda items and annual report content.

Facilitate meetings ensuring all have equal involvement in discussions, clarifying any uncertainties, confirming decisions made and actions to be taken and ensuring effective time management of meetings whilst providing appropriate periods of discussion and reflection.

Act as a spokesperson and figurehead for Glass Door when required.

Support Glass Door functions and events eg attendance at supporter events.

Support the Head of Fundraising & Major Donors with the cultivation of high-level donors, occassionally attending meetings where value can be added.

Support the team liaising with partner churches and statutory authorities as required and be the public face of Glass Door in the local community.

We are seeking a new trustee to join our Board. This opportunity has arisen at an exciting time in our journey at St Helena. We have recently agreed a new 10-year vision and strategic direction. However, to achieve our vision we need to find a way through a perfect storm of spiraling costs and increased demand, at the same time as income from traditional fundraising methods is diminishing and inflationary pressures are increasing. To help with income we have set up a subsidiary trading arm to manage our growing range of commercial activities. Already the lead organisation for palliative and end of life care in our area, we want to extend our reach and services to also become a key provider of complex frailty and dementia care. We are exploring moving to a new site and taking the opportunity that presents to develop business cases for new ventures that could be co-located with existing services. We operate two very successful B2B lottery partnerships delivering lotteries for other hospices and charities across the country. We have recently launched a new home care service in partnership with a national franchisor. We have a growing retail arm, with an increasing online presence. We also have a well-established and successful fundraising operation. We want to build on this success and diversify even further. You will be joining a welcoming, motivated, and supportive Board of Trustees, and you will find us a friendly and caring organisation to work with. activities at local community centres, we help our members have fun, make friends, learn

Oxfordshire Breastfeeding Support (OBS) is a small charity (a charitable incorporated organisation or CIO) providing free direct breastfeeding support to the families of Oxfordshire - via a mixture of virtual one to one appointments, in-person sessions, Zoom groups, a private Facebook group, antenatal workshops and work targeted at groups that are under-represented. OBS is seeking to recruit a trustee to act as treasurer of trustees for a period of 2-3 years. In addition to the responsibilities of a general trustee, treasurer of the trustees will:

About the role

We are looking for a Treasurer with experience of working with not for profits in setting strategic financial direction and it would be desirable if they have experience in complying with the regulations of the Charity Commission for England and Wales or similar regulatory bodies.

You would be joining our board at an exciting time, as we implement our new strategy, build on our campaigns and broaden our advocacy to mobilise greater support and achieve change. In line with this, we have built our model on realistic income forecasts, we plan to maintain the net unrestricted funds available, we are building restricted funding streams to fund our thematic priorities, we continue to align income and expenditure on 6 month, 12 month and 18 month time horizons and we carefully manage the commitment of our remaining surplus reserves.

Responsibilities of the Treasurer

In addition to the general responsibilities of a trustee (see below), the responsibility of the Treasurer is to maintain an overview of the organisation's affairs, ensuring its financial viability and that the organisation has policies and systems in place to ensure robust financial planning, implementation and reporting.  For example, by taking a lead role on behalf of the board in:

• Reviewing budgets, accounts and financial statements, and recommending them to the Board for approval

• Being assured that the financial resources of the organisation meet its present and future needs

• Ensuring that the charity has an appropriate reserves policy

• Ensuring that appropriate accounting procedures and controls are in place

• Ensuring that the charity has an appropriate investment policy

• Ensuring that the accounts are prepared and disclosed in the form required by funders and the relevant statutory bodies

• Keeping the Board informed about its financial duties and responsibilities

Person specification

We are looking for someone with the following experience and capability:

All trustees need to have the following: 

• Understanding, or commitment to acquire an understanding, of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trustees of a UK charity. Acceptance of these duties, responsibilities and liabilities, and a commitment to operate within them.

• Good, independent judgement and the ability to operate at a strategic level.

• An ability and willingness to work as a part of a team and to support the staff team.

• Understanding and empathy with Family for Every Child’s vision, mission, values and beliefs.

In addition to the trustee person specification, the Treasurer needs to have: 

• Financial and business experience at a senior management or director level

• An understanding of the charity sector, for example an appreciation of the operations, accounting (including SORP) and legal framework in the UK

• Experience in complying with the regulations of the Charity Commission for England and Wales or a similar regulatory body

• Significant experience of financial management and strategy

• Some experience of charity fundraising is desirable

• The skills to analyse proposals and examine their financial consequences.

Desirable, but not essential requirements:

• experience of working with or on a board

• a qualified member of a recognised accountancy body 

• Experience of both local and international not for profits.

Time Commitment

This is a substantial and responsible role, and will suit someone able to commit about 18-20 hours three times a year. This includes about 18 hours a year for meetings (which are held on Zoom at a time which is most mutually convenient for attendees in different time zones), as well as time for reading and preparation. 

Board and committee meetings are three times a year, and there may be ad hoc meetings between the regular meetings. If the Treasurer also sits on the board of a subsidiary entity, there are additional three board meetings. In addition, trustees are requested to provide support and guidance to the CEO and other Secretariat staff on an ongoing basis. 

The initial term is a three-year period which can be reviewed by the Board..

The Trustee Role

As a registered charity, our governance and overall leadership rests with our Board of Trustees, who work alongside the Chief Executive and Director team. While membership of the Board is voluntary, and without remuneration (reasonable expenses are paid) it is a highly rewarding experience where Trustees contribute actively, and take significant responsibility for the governance and strategic direction of our organisation. Those already in this role find it extremely fulfilling and are a vital part of the Marwell family. With exciting times ahead, we are looking to complement our existing Board of Trustees with a suitably experienced and highly qualified Fundraising professional. In addition to the generic responsibilities and skills required of Board members, Marwell requires someone who can demonstrate extensive charitable fundraising expertise, at a Director or Chief Executive level. Ideally, they will have relevant experience of fundraising governance, major giving and large-scale capital appeals. This role, like many Board appointments, is non-executive but critical in our overall governance, leadership and understanding of best practice.

Our Trustees contribute significantly to the strategic planning and direction of Autism Together and successful candidates will need to demonstrate experience in governance, good communication and an ability to conform to our Trustee Code.

The Board recognises that diversity of Trustees is vital if we are to operate with excellence, and we warmly welcome applications from individuals of diverse backgrounds.

Trustees are expected to attend 8 board meetings per year, become actively involved in at least one quarterly sub-committee, and to familiarise themselves with all aspects of the charity’s work.

We are seeking Trustees who will bring relevant skills and experience in one of the following areas:

⦿ Community-led development and action.

⦿ Financial management.

⦿ Legal and HR experience in the field of commercial and charity law.

⦿ Communication experience particularly in the area of social media.

⦿ IT and governance structures.

⦿ Property and Estates.

⦿ Governance and/or knowledge of quality assurance.

Beyond technical and strategic abilities, we are looking for individuals who are committed to our mission and values, with strong interpersonal skills to constructively challenge the Board and the Executives in the best interests of the people we support.
