We are looking for trustees who reflect the different communities served by Thirtyone:eight and bring a range of skills and expertise that will assist us in achieving our mission and vision.
We are particularly keen to appoint trustees who are based in, or who have relevant knowledge of operating in, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

Commitment
Trustees currently meet as a full Board four times per year, one of which is in person and includes an overnight stay. The remaining meetings are conducted online and times vary to assist attendance of all members. In addition to full Board meetings, trustees will be strongly encouraged to participate in committees and working groups, which again are held remotely. An invitation is also extended to all trustees to attend an annual team event which includes an overnight stay.

ABOUT THE DIANA AWARD
The Diana Award is a charity legacy to Diana, Princess of Wales’ belief that young people have the power to change the world for the better. Since 1999, over 47,000 young people have been recognised with The Diana Award for making an outstanding difference in their communities’ across the globe.
With the support of HRH Prince William, The Duke of Cambridge and HRH Prince Harry, The Diana Award aims to inspire and recognise social action in young people by going beyond its original Awards programme with three additional youth led initiatives that emphasize a peer led approach.

WHY WE ARE RECRUITING
Our Board of Trustees is committed, diverse, and values led. We have strong foundations in strategic leadership and finance. However, a recent skills audit highlighted areas we now wish to strengthen as we continue to evolve.
We are therefore seeking up to four Trustees with experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Fundraising and Income Generation
- Mental Health and Wellbeing
- Education Sector
- Social Sustainability
- Marketing, PR, or Communications
- Legal and Compliance
We are particularly keen to hear from diverse leaders and individuals with lived experience related to our mission.
Please note: All applications must have the right to volunteer as a trustee in the UK. As part of our safeguarding commitments, all trustee appointments are voluntary and subject to a UK Enhanced DBS check, which must be satisfactorily completed before confirmation of the role.
THE ROLE OF A TRUSTEE
As a Trustee, you will be part of a Board that sets the strategic direction and ensures robust governance of the charity. You will work in partnership with the Chief Executive and Senior Leadership Team to oversee the delivery of our objectives and safeguard the charity’s future. Training and support will be provided for all new trustees.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Trustees are expected to:
- Ensure compliance with Charity Commission regulations and governance best practice
- Uphold the charity’s vision, values, and legal and financial integrity
- Provide strategic oversight and challenge to plans, budgets and risks
- Support income generation through networking, advocacy or fundraising
- Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of the charity’s work
- Attend and contribute to Board and sub-committee meetings
COMMITMENT
- A three-year term, renewable once
- About of 2 hours per month, which breaks down as:
- Four board meetings per year (2.5 hours each, usually 5pm–7.30pm)
- One full-day annual strategy session
- Optional participation in events or subcommittees
- Meetings are hybrid (London-based with virtual access)

- Fundraising and Income Generation - In an increasingly competitive and uncertain funding environment, we need trustees who can help us think creatively and strategically about income generation. This includes drawing on networks, identifying new opportunities, and supporting innovative fundraising approaches that will strengthen our financial resilience and enable us to deliver long-term impact for young people. We are also looking for a new Trustee to chair our new Income Generation sub-committee.
- Mental Health & Wellbeing - With youth mental health at a critical point, we seek trustees with expertise from educational, therapeutic, or public health settings to guide evidence-based strategies that help young people thrive.
- Education Sector - As our work is deeply rooted in schools and learning environments, we value trustees with knowledge of the education sector. Your insight will help us navigate its priorities and challenges, forge strong partnerships, and ensure our programmes complement and enhance the role of education in young people’s lives.
- Social Sustainability - We are seeking trustees who understand how to build inclusive cultures, systems, and communities. Your expertise will help us embed equity and belonging across our organisation, partnerships, and programmes, ensuring every young person feels seen, valued, and able to thrive.
- Marketing, PR, or Communications - We need trustees with senior-level experience in communications, marketing, or public/government relations to help amplify our voice, strengthen our brand, and influence key audiences. Your skills will ensure our message resonates with supporters, partners, and decision-makers.
- Legal and Compliance - Robust governance is critical to maintaining the trust of our stakeholders and the integrity of our work. We are seeking trustees with expertise in legal and compliance matters to help us navigate an evolving regulatory landscape, manage risk effectively, and ensure our policies and practices meet the highest standards.

The Board is chaired by Rebecca Crook and supported by a strong leadership team including CEO Dr Tessy Ojo CBE. The Nominations Committee, a sub-committee of the Board, leads the trustee recruitment process. We are committed to inclusive recruitment and welcome candidates from all backgrounds. Purpose: The primary purpose of the Nominations Committee is to identify, evaluate, and recommend candidates for appointment as Trustees of The Diana Award. This committee ensures that the Board has the appropriate mix of skills, expertise, and diversity to effectively govern the organisation and fulfil its mission.
Membership: The Chair of the Nominations Committee (a Trustee) A minimum of two other Trustees CEO (ex officio member) Any additional members as deemed necessary (e.g., board secretary or HR support)
Frequency of Meetings: The committee will meet as required, typically monthly, and more frequently when necessary for the recruitment process

Arthritis Action is a registered charity, and company limited by guarantee, whose directors are the members of the Board of Trustees. Our Board of Trustees
The Trustees are the group in charge of Hear Me Out. They are responsible for what we do, and are the guardians of our charitable work. Our small team of staff, led by our Director and Artistic Director, deliver the work, and the Directors report to the Trustees. All these people work together to make Hear Me Out’s aims a reality, and keep it that way.
The Board of Trustees meet 4 times a year, currently on Thursday afternoons. The meetings last 3 hours with a break in the middle. Information is sent out before the meetings about the topics to be discussed, in written papers and sometimes as audio/video. We also want Trustees to get involved in something else, perhaps a music activity or a group working on a special project, so that they bring deeper knowledge of Hear Me Out’s work into Board meetings.
Charity boards can sometimes feel quite posh and formal, with unspoken rules that confuse and exclude. But we think ours is a friendly place to be, and a good team where everyone is respected. And we’re on a journey to unpack how it works, to make sure it’s only complicated when it really needs to be. So we think being a trustee at Hear Me Out will be a good experience for people with different backgrounds and life experience – whether or not they’ve done anything like this before. We need lots of wisdom to make good decisions about our complex work in this troubling time, and that’s the way to get it.
Lived experience and professional experience
Professional experience and lived experience are of equal value on our Board. We need Trustees who understand what the people we work with are going through and what they need, and who can help make that happen. That combination will give us the strongest impact.
We want to bring more people with personal experience of detention, asylum, immigration enforcement and/or racial discrimination into leadership roles in Hear Me Out. We’ve started to do this but don’t yet have the critical mass of lived experience that will really place our organisation inside the communities we serve. If you have this kind of experience then we would really love to hear from you. You don’t need to have been a trustee before or to have a standard work CV.
We also want people’s professional experience. Fundraising and income generation are particular issues for us at present, but our work needs a range of professional skills and expertise, so there are lots of ways to contribute. So if you’re interested, tell us everything you can bring to the role.

Crossness Pumping Station (overseen by the Crossness Engines Trust) is a unique and valuable museum of UK and world reknown telling the history of how the ambitious management of sewage transformed London as a city of growth and innovation in the 1860s and helped eradicate cholera. - Excellent communication skills including with staff and volunteers as well as fellow trustees.
- An understanding of the importance of collaboration and problem-solving.
- Confident and proficient in the use of MS Office 365.

Gunnersbury Museum & Park Development Trust is seeking five new Trustees to help shape the future of one of West London’s most significant heritage and green spaces.
This recruitment follows a recent governance review and comes at a pivotal time for the Trust, as it builds momentum across heritage conservation, cultural programming, community engagement and environmental sustainability.
Gunnersbury is a unique estate, comprising 72 hectares of parkland, 21 listed buildings including a Regency-era mansion, and a museum that reflects the diverse histories of West London. With a growing programme of exhibitions, education, events and large-scale music festivals, it plays a vital role as both a cultural destination and a community asset.
The Trust is looking for individuals with insight, expertise and a strong commitment to its mission. Candidates with experience in heritage, sustainability, fundraising, events, or community leadership are particularly encouraged to apply.

As a Trustee of Foodrise, you will play a vital role in shaping the strategic direction of our charity. The charity has gone through a rebrand and is in the process of developing a new strategy. With that, we are looking for someone who can bring experience, knowledge and insight as we continue to help further our mission of a food system that regenerates the natural world while sustaining people on a fair basis.
Who we are looking for
We are seeking passionate, strategic, and forward-thinking individuals who can bring diverse perspectives and expertise to our board. Above all, we are looking for people who share our mission and will champion our values. We are particularly keen to hear from those with specialist skills in:
- Financial expertise, particularly an understanding of charity finance
- Human resources and safeguarding

With quarterly board meetings, committee work, any ad hoc conversations and engagement with our dedicated team, and the thoughtful preparation these responsibilities need, you can expect to invest approximately the equivalent of up to a day a month.

The Trans Learning Partnership (TLP) is in the process of evolving into a new, independent charity: the Trans Research Partnership (TRP). This transition will be completed by the end of 2025.
As part of this transition, we’re recruiting up to five founding trustees to help shape the future of TRP. We have already received a number of good applications, and are now turning our focus specifically to recruiting those with charity leadership and governance experience.
TRP will be a trans-led research charity that centres trans voices and produces rigorous, community-led research to inform policy, practice, and public understanding. Our values include trans leadership, intersectional justice, ethical rigour, collaboration, safety, autonomy, imagination, and hope. Our board will be majority trans, but we welcome applications from qualified cis people.
We’re looking for people who:
- Are committed to trans liberation and TRP’s mission
- Can contribute time and skills to setting up a new charity
- Bring experience in charity governance, charity leadership and fundraising.
We especially welcome applications from the global majority, those with working-class backgrounds, and others underrepresented in charity leadership.
Time commitment: ~1–2 days/month. Meetings are remote-first. Expenses reimbursed. Training and mentorship provided.
