Role description:
The Bid Writer will be instrumental in driving ambitious income growth by creating compelling proposals, reports, and presentations that showcase the impact of Southampton Hospitals Charity’s work to engage both current and prospective high-value supporters (trusts and foundations, philanthropic individuals
and corporates).
Main Responsibilities:
- Lead the development of high-quality cases for support, philanthropic proposals, update reports and presentations
- Build strong, trusted relationships with key stakeholders across University Hospital Southampton to develop compelling philanthropic asks and stewardship reports
- Work closely with the grants manager to ensure that proposals align to agreed grant priorities and funding decisions
- Translate complex information into clear, donor-friendly materials that are brand consistent and tailored to a high value audience
- Identify compelling and innovative ways to articulate and showcase the impact of Southampton Hospitals Charity, using powerful, persuasive writing to engage and inspire high-value audiences
- Work closely with the Director of Income Generation and Marketing to plan a portfolio of work managing different deadlines for review, sign off and submission
- Work closely with the fundraising team to ensure proposals and reports reflect the interests and motivations of supporters and prospective supporters.

Role Overview
As we grow our reach and deepen our impact, we are seeking a highly capable team member to lead our partnerships and fundraising work. This role is central to securing the resources, relationships, and income needed to ensure our Multibank meets rising demand across Scotland while contributing to the wider ambitions of the National Multibank network.
Working to a strategy agreed and developed with the CEO, the Partnerships & Fundraising Manager will build strong corporate, community, and referral partnerships; unlock surplus and donated goods; and secure sustainable income through grants, corporate giving, and strategic collaborations. This is a dynamic, relationship-led role suited to someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys creating opportunities, strengthening networks, and helping drive organisational growth.
Key Responsibilities
Partnership Development
- Build and manage strong relationships with businesses, retailers, manufacturers, and logistics partners to secure surplus goods and in-kind support.
- Expand and maintain a network of referral partners, including schools, health professionals, local authorities, and community organisations.
- Identify and pursue new partnership opportunities that extend the Multibank’s reach and strengthen supply.
- Identify new partnership opportunities and progress these independently, escalating strategic or high-value decisions to the CEO as appropriate.
- Work collaboratively with the National Multibank and Regional Multibank network, building and nurturing strong relationships and contributing to shared partnership and fundraising opportunities.
Fundraising & Income Generation
- Work closely with the CEO to develop and deliver a pipeline of funding opportunities across trusts, foundations, corporate partnerships, and individual supporters.
- Prepare compelling funding proposals, business cases, and impact reports that clearly communicate need and demonstrate value.
- Secure restricted and unrestricted income to support operational costs, cost-price procurement, and strategic initiatives.
Innovation & Strategic Support
- Work closely with the CEO to identify and secure funding for pilot projects and new delivery models.
- Help shape partnership approaches that support test-and-learn innovation, wrap-around support, and new community pathways.
- Represent The Big House at meetings, events, and stakeholder forums, helping raise the profile of the Multibank and its mission.

We need a talented, successful grants and trusts manager with an impressive track record of securing funding (including six figure) and driving charitable income growth. An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated professional interested in working in a thriving and successful Development team. We are seeking an individual who has the skills and determination to help support the University’s trust and foundation fundraising and enjoys working as part of a happy and vibrant in-house/remote team.
Working to support the Senior Development Manager, Trusts and Foundations; the Development Officer, Trusts and Foundations, will help to deliver the trust and foundation fundraising strategy. The post-holder will work alongside Development colleagues to identify funding opportunities both in the UK and internationally. The post-holder will have responsibility for securing significant new funds to support the strategic priorities of our £300 million fundraising campaign which covers a wide range of areas. This work will focus particularly on proposals for four and five figure gifts.
The post-holder will assist the Senior Development Manager, Trusts and Foundations, in cultivating currently engaged and new trusts, foundations and charities. They will work with the Senior Development Assistant (Research) to grow the pipeline of giving through research into suitable trusts and foundations whose aims are closely aligned with the strategic priorities of the University.
The post-holder will have experience of trust and foundation fundraising accompanied by a sound knowledge of university fundraising. They will be a creative and strategic thinker and possess excellent communication skills with the ability to work proactively, both internally and externally. This role will require knowledge of trust and foundation funders, excellent written communication skills and a high level of attention to detail.
Above all, the post-holder must be passionate about the role that philanthropy plays in supporting higher education for the benefit of society as a whole.

About the Role
This is a dynamic and rewarding role at the heart of the Fundraising Team, where you’ll help generate over £1.4 million each year to keep the Youth Zone running. You’ll lead on writing compelling bids and funding proposals that unlock both unrestricted income and targeted project support – from mental health to employability to sports and creative programmes.
You’ll have access to a wealth of impact data, real stories, and a ready-made case for support and you’ll be encouraged to bring your creativity, energy and ambition to every application. You’ll collaborate with an experienced, passionate team and be supported by the Head of Fundraising & Communications, the CEO, and a dedicated Board of Trustees who believe deeply in what we do.
About You
You’ll need to be a strong communicator and natural storyteller, someone who can clearly articulate why Youth Zones matter and inspire funders to get behind the charity.
You will have experience of:
- Writing successful funding applications or proposals, ideally in the voluntary or public sector, securing four- and five-figure gifts from trusts, foundations, or statutory sources.
- Managing a fundraising pipeline or prospect list, from initial research through to application and stewardship, using a CRM system such as Salesforce to track progress and outcomes
- Collaborating across teams, particularly with delivery, finance, or impact colleagues, to gather information and develop compelling bids grounded in real-world delivery.
- Producing high-quality donor reports, meeting deadlines and exceeding expectations through clear narrative, data, and case studies.
- Representing an organisation externally, such as at funder meetings, events, or presentations, with confidence and professionalism

About the Organisation
This is a brand-new locally run youth charity, set to provide thousands of young people with the opportunity to have fun, make new friends, try something new and feel safe. We are seeking an experienced, driven and passionate Head of Philanthropy to lead on delivering income from our High Value (HV) audiences and income streams. We are looking for someone with energy and ambition, who can demonstrate strategic leadership to maximise fundraising opportunities across Major Giving, Trusts and Foundations, Special Events and Corporate Partnerships. In 2025 we invested in growing our fundraising team so that we could fund more life-changing research, to increase our understanding of leukemia as a disease, and accelerate the development of kinder, more effective treatments. This included investment to grow the Philanthropy fundraising team, develop new fundraising products, increase our supporter networks, and build a stronger pipeline. As a result, we have seen significant year-on-year growth for a charity of our size and are keen to maintain this trajectory with the opportunities in front of us.
We are in the final year of our current 5-year organisational strategy cycle and in the process of developing our new 5-year fundraising strategy, so you will be instrumental in bridging the gap, delivering against agreed income targets for 2026 and driving forward new plans into 2027.
Reporting to the Director of Fundraising, the post holder will at times be required to work both strategically and operationally, autonomously and collaboratively, as a critical member of the Fundraising Leadership Team. You will be results-driven with an appetite to innovate and drive continuous improvement, leading to increased conversions, deepened relationships, and long-term high value support to upscale our research programme.
Skills and Experience
- Previous experience of being a Head of Philanthropy, demonstrating strategic leadership with a remit that includes oversight of a broad High Value fundraising portfolio, across multiple income streams.
- Experience of applying the principles of Philanthropy fundraising to develop and nurture a growing pipeline of 5- and 6-figure gift opportunities for supporters able to give at the highest levels.
- Experience of managing engaging Major Giving and Trusts & Foundations fundraising programmes to generate a warm pipeline of 5- and 6-figure gifts.
- Experience of overseeing a Special Events programme, comprising both fundraising and cultivation events.
- Experience of overseeing a Corporate partnerships portfolio and representing the charity at a senior level.
- Demonstrable experience of managing a high-performing team, focussing on creating a culture where people thrive as individuals.
- Strong experience of building effective relationships with internal and external partners, senior stakeholders and suppliers, leading on the key relationships for the charity.
- Strong written and oral communication skills with a real talent for connecting and influencing people at all levels.
- Strong project-management experience, including managing budgets, schedules, creative development, and supplier relationships for fundraising events and campaigns.
- Proven experience of driving effective High Value stewardship programmes to maximise supporter experience.
- Great listening skills and the ability to interpret the needs of individuals, teams, and organisations.
- Ability to think through complex issues and produce evidenced-based judgements.
- Experience of setting and managing annual budgets, monitoring, and reconciling results and financial performance in income and expenditure. Providing associated narratives and monthly reforecasts.
- Working to a wide range of financial and non-financial KPIs set in annual activity plans.
- Ability to work well cross-organisationally, recognising different teams’ priorities and workloads.
- Entrepreneurial and results-led, with the ability to lead programmes of fundraising activity, with strategic, well thought through resourcing to deliver growth.
Knowledge
- Excellent specialist knowledge of the principals and methods underpinning successful Philanthropy fundraising and stakeholder management across Major Giving, Trusts and Corporate partnerships.
- Up-to-date knowledge of current fundraising trends.
- High level knowledge of Salesforce CRM and how best to steward supporters.
- High level knowledge and understanding of charity law in relation to legacy fundraising, GDPR, PECR, data protection and other relevant fundraising regulation.
Role specifics
- Hours: 0.8 FTE are 30 hours per week – days and times to be agreed
- 12 months fixed term contract – maternity cover
- Location: We are very flexible! Whilst our hybrid working policy is a minimum of two days per month in our London office, for this role we would typically expect the role holder to be in the office once a week.

About the role
