Key Areas of Responsibility

Fundraising

• Develop relationships with potential Trusts and Foundations partners.
• Research new trusts and analyse their giving potential and funding priorities and fulfil due diligence requirements.
• Identify and secure opportunities to support the School’s fundraising campaign.
• Liaise directly with key contacts in trusts, foundations and grant-making bodies to establish important dates and criteria in order to strengthen applications.
• Implement all agreed actions with these trusts, including writing and submitting proposals, reports and other relevant information.
• Identify fundable elements of YMS’s work; source and collate information on this work; and package and present it in formations which are suitable for a range of current funders and new prospects.
• Liaise with relevant colleagues within YMS on the development of new projects, identify potential trust and foundation funders for proposed new work.

Donor Stewardship and Development

• Manage The Yehudi Menuhin School’s relationships with a portfolio of existing Trusts and Foundations, whose grants range from 4 to 6 figures.
• Create and regularly review tailored development plans for each allocated trust, identifying and analysing key information to inform actions aimed at maintaining or increasing these trusts’ support.
• Monitor restricted spend alongside colleagues in the finance team and project leaders, to ensure all trust and foundation funds are spent in accordance with the terms of the grant.
• Ensure invitations are issued to appropriate YMS events and accompany invitees to event.

Planning and Reporting

• Develop and monitor income and activity plans for donors and projects.
• Maintain accurate and complete records of donor details and communications on YMS’ fundraising database (Spektrix).
• Contribute to annual target and budget setting.

General Responsibilities

• Understand and support the mission and strategic aims of The Yehudi Menuhin School.
• Contribute to the development of the overall fundraising strategy for The Yehudi Menuhin School.
• Be aware of and abide by all Yehudi Menuhin School policies and procedures.
• Ensure compliance at all times with the Fundraising Regulator’s Code of Fundraising Practice.
• Take appropriate responsibility for records held, created or used as part of your work for The Yehudi Menuhin School (paper-based and electronic), as per the Data Protection Act 2018 and other relevant legislation and regulations including GDPR and PECR.
• Undertake other duties as may be reasonably requested of your post.

We are currently recruiting for an ambitious and proactive Fundraising Manager. Reporting to the PBI UK Director, the Fundraising Manager is a permanent, full-time position. You will take the lead on PBI UK's fundraising strategy, managing a portfolio of low to mid-level trusts, foundations, and individual donor relationships, while supporting the Director and wider team on the engagement and stewardship of high-level partnerships. Day-to-day, the role spans grant writing, donor reporting, prospect research, donor stewardship, campaign management — including biannual match-funding campaigns — and keeping the fundraising pipeline and contact management systems up to date.

The Brent Centre for Young People is the leading mental health charity for young people in Northwest London, helping over 750 young people a year with a wide range of issues. • Hold responsibility for delivering agreed income targets from trusts, foundations, and partnerships, regularly reporting on performance and risk. 

• Work collaboratively across LICC teams to build, develop, and steward strong relationships with trusts, foundations and mission partners, cultivating long-term, strong partnerships.

• Prepare high-quality, compelling proposals and applications, securing funding from a wide range of trusts and foundations.

• Work with teams across LICC to gather budgets, project information, and impact data to support the development of funding proposals and reports. 

• Ensure effective stewardship of grants, including compliance with funding agreements, management of deadlines, and delivery of timely, high-quality reports and updates to funders. 

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all trusts and partnership activity within LICC’s CRM system.

• Monitor and forecast trust income in collaboration with the Director of Development, assessing timelines, likelihood of success, and funder engagement.

• Support the delivery of events and engagement opportunities for funders and partners to strengthen relationships and showcase LICC’s impact.

• Act as an ambassador for LICC, building its profile and reputation with external stakeholders and supporting its wider mission.

• Undertake other duties as may be requested by the Director of Development. 

Skills and experience 

• Strong proposal writing skills, with the ability to craft clear, compelling funding applications.

• Excellent attention to detail, including experience managing budgets, project information, and CRM data.

• Highly organised, able to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines effectively.

• Collaborative approach, with experience working across teams to develop opportunities.

Useful information:

All part-time staff are expected to work in the London office on Tuesdays, with the flexibility to work from home or the office other days (flexible working arrangements are possible).

There are 25 days’ annual leave per annum (pro rata) with statutory holidays in addition (pro rata). A maximum of three further days holiday is given to all staff who would otherwise be working between Christmas and New Year.

You will be expected to be available for occasional evening events. A ‘time off in lieu’ arrangement is in place, to claim back required work over the usual contracted hours.

You will be responsible for building a robust fundraising pipeline, creating a long-term development strategy, and embedding an efficient and effective fundraising function within the organisation.

The Fundraising Manager is a key role responsible for securing the income that will allow Merton Giving to fulfil its ambitions. 

Who We Are

Merton Connected strengthens the voluntary, community and faith sector and supports charitable organisations across the borough through training, advice, volunteering and partnership building. We pioneered social prescribing in Merton, now embedded in every GP practice for over a decade. We also deliver Healthwatch Merton, the Home Visits Library and Merton Giving.

Merton Giving is our collaborative grant-giving programme through which we work with local people and organisations to raise funds that are distributed to local community organisations to tackle issues identified by local people. We bring together businesses, residents, community projects and other stakeholders and foster strong relationships, in order to unlock the potential of the borough and make Merton a place grounded in social justice, where people feel they belong, have what they need to live well, and are proud to call home.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Fundraising and Strategy

• Work with the Strategic Lead to develop and implement a fundraising strategy, including agreed income targets)
• Proactively build and manage a solid pipeline of funding applications and approaches.
• Establish, cultivate, and maintain strong relationships with potential and existing funders, including corporates, trusts & foundations, high-net-worth individuals and the statutory sector.
• Work with the Strategic Lead to identify and take opportunities to engage and develop relationships with Merton’s businesses and High Net Worth individuals.
• Work with the Merton Connected team to explore how to maximise sector benefit from corporate volunteering and in-kind support.
• Write compelling funding applications and manage reporting requirements.
• Create and manage an efficient office system and processes for the fundraising function.

Publicity and marketing

• Promote Merton Giving to stakeholders through producing promotional material, maintaining the website, and social media
• Run events and identify opportunities to promote Merton Giving, especially to businesses and HNWs
• Work with the Grants Manager to collect impact stories from grant recipients for publicity

Partnership Development

• Work with the Strategic Lead to develop partnerships, and identify opportunities for added value and mutual benefit, such as promoting Merton Giving through the Council’s payroll giving scheme.
• Act as an ambassador for Merton Giving, representing the organisation at external events and meetings

Additional Responsibilities

• Ensure all fundraising activities are aligned with Merton Giving/Merton Connected aims and values.
• Occasionally work outside of normal office hours to support Merton Giving events and activities.
• Support with organisational tasks as required in a small, dynamic team.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential:

• Proven experience in fundraising, with a track record of securing income exceeding £300,000 a year from a diverse range of sources (corporates, trusts, individuals, and statutory sector).
• Demonstrable experience in building and managing strong relationships and partnerships with funders and stakeholders.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience in writing persuasive funding applications and reports.
• Strong strategic thinking skills, with the ability to develop and implement long-term fundraising plans.
• The ability to influence people through persuasive argument
• Excellent planning, organisational, and project management skills, including the ability to work to deadlines.
• A deep commitment to tackling inequality and a passion for community-led change.
• An understanding of the inequality and challenges within Merton.
• The ability to work autonomously and proactively in a small team.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 including, Word, Excel, Teams and Sharepoint.

Desirable:

• Experience with WordPress and grant management software
• Experience of running events
• An experienced and influential public speaker
• Skilled in writing promotional material

We are looking for a Trust and Foundations Manager to join a successful and ambitious team, responsible for managing existing donors, managing grants with strategic partners, producing clear and compelling donor communications, and proactively identifying new funding opportunities to support the organisation’s continued growth and impact. 

The right candidate will be a self-starter, with excellent written and verbal communications skills, who is highly motivated and passionate about ending world hunger.  They must bring experience of identifying potential new partnerships, securing gifts, and ongoing stewardship.
