About the role
This vacancy is for a University Access Officer to work across two schools in Greenwich, London. Our schools are shown on a map The Access Project schools on our website.
The University Access Officer works with school staff at all levels, volunteer tutors, and with the rest of The Access Project’s team to ensure that the delivery of the programme is optimised.
Role responsibilities
• Engage with students in school and enrol them onto the programme
• Match students with volunteer tutors
• Monitor student attendance to tutorials and devise innovative solutions to encourage attendance
• Assess student progress towards being able to make successful university applications
• Upload information onto the Salesforce database (training is provided)
• Monitor the impact of tutorials, and intervene as appropriate
• Build and manage relationships with volunteer tutors to ensure they have a positive experience of the programme
• Manage tutor relationships and attendance to tutorials through weekly monitoring of systems, emailing and making phone calls.
• Work with school staff to ensure their cooperation and timely completion of activities contributing to the smooth running of the programme
• Chair and present at termly school meetings with Senior Management to report on programme progress.
• University Access Officers support the volunteering team by helping to deliver tutor training sessions, and attending university site visits, which take place on occasional Saturdays and weekday evenings (paid time off is provided).

The Director of Finance Business Partnering (Operations) is a critical role within the Financial Strategy, Planning & Performance division that will lead, develop and deliver high quality finance business partnering and decision support to all the central services of the university, including providing financial planning, reporting and insight across revenue and capital funded activity.
You will support the senior Director of the Financial Strategy, Planning & Performance function in development and improvement projects. Part of the Communications and Engagement department, the Senior Policy and Public Affairs Officer is responsible for developing and implementing strategic policy initiatives and engaging with key stakeholders to advance our policy priorities across the four UK nations. Working with colleagues, members and external stakeholders, you will deliver high quality analysis and research, produce evidence-based policy positions and outputs, and employ effective public affairs approaches to influence change on behalf of our members.

Strategic planning and reporting

Social mobility in the UK is still far from a reality: disadvantaged pupils are less likely to attend university/ high level apprenticeships, occupy top jobs and improve their standard of living over their parents than their peers. The divide has become even clearer since Covid-19.
The gap between most advantaged and least advantaged pupils’ employment and higher education destinations remains vast - and this leads to real-life consequences. There is still much more to be done.
As an award-winning, fast-moving charity our mission is to support young people from disadvantaged communities to identify and fulfil their potential. Working in partnership with schools, universities, and employers, we deliver academic and pastoral coaching programmes that improve pupils’ confidence, resilience, and independence, as well as their attainment.
With a recently written three-year strategy, and a new Chief Executive, we’re at anexciting stage of development and have ambitious plans to continue improving our im- pact and reach. This academic year, we are planning on supporting over 2,000 pupils across our three regional teams: London, the South East and the West Midlands.
Role description
We are looking for a self-motivated individual to enhance our work across London, where we have very strong existing school and university partnerships.
You will primarily be responsible for delivering our academic coaching programmes to pupils in both Primary and Secondary Schools across your region, and other regions when required. Typically we run programmes between the months of October-December, and February-June, where regular travel to schools in the region will be required.
As a Programme Officer you will also recruit, train and manage volunteers (typically current undergraduates from universities in your region), deliver in-school and online workshops, and contribute to the overall development of the region.
You will be delivering programmes in schools and with volunteers can be challenging, with every day looking a little different from the last. But it is ultimately extremely rewarding! You will flourish in this role if you enjoy thinking quickly, responding to challenges, and using your own initiative to get great outcomes for young people.

Role Description
The London Programme Officer will be responsible for:
Programme coordination and delivery:

Coordinate and run multiple in-school and online programmes (core and peer to peer) across the region and, when required, in other regions.

Our programme supporting Higher Technical Education has big ambitions. Over 14 years, NCDA has built a reputation as a leading global advocacy organisation on NCDs, a global thought leader on NCD policy and practice, a convener and mobiliser of the NCD civil society movement, a partner to governments and the World Health Organization and other United Nations agencies, and an advocate for meaningful involvement of people living with NCDs.
Job description
The Capacity Development unit seeks a Capacity Development Officer to support the implementation of the Our Views, Our Voices initiative, specifically the emerging capacity development work on equity. The Our Views, Our Voices initiative is a flagship initiative of the NCDA and people living with NCDs dedicated to promoting the meaningful involvement of people living with NCDs in the NCD response, supporting and enabling individuals to share their views to take action and drive change. It seeks to break down stigma and discrimination, equipping people living with NCDs with the skills, knowledge, and opportunities to be change agents at local and global levels.
Designing equitable solutions for NCDs requires reaching those left furthest behind, adopting rights-based approaches, and applying principles of meaningful involvement of people living with NCDs to redress power imbalances. Putting people and communities at the centre allows to identify how different drivers and lived experiences interact and to identify solutions to the barriers faced in accessing care across the continuum and in achieving equity.
NCDA recently published an NCD Equity Framework to provide community advocates with an introduction to what health equity means in the context of NCDs and adding an equity lens to advocacy on NCDs. It identifies eight priority areas for advancing health equity for NCDs addressing common barriers to equity. To accompany the Framework NCDA has produced a Practical Guide. To support civil society and community advocates operationalize a health equity lens for NCD advocacy, NCDA has developed an accompanying Practical Guide for NCD Community Advocates. This guides advocates to develop an NCD Equity Report using an NCD Health Equity Assessment Tool to establish a foundation for advocacy efforts in this area.
The Capacity Development Officer will support the roll-out of the equity work with national alliances via a new grant to support national alliances conduct an NCD equity assessment, produce an NCD equity report and add an equity lens to advocacy efforts in-country to support more equitable NCD responses and ensure the most vulnerable populations are reached. The role will strengthen capacity of national alliances by supporting the delivery of training on equity and broader Our Views, Our Voices training. The role will also provide support to global advocacy and accountability efforts ensuring close linkages with national level work on the theme of equity.
The Capacity Development Officer will work with people living with NCDs, Our Views, Our Voices advocates, national and regional alliances, the Capacity Development unit, colleagues in the policy, advocacy, accountability and communications units, and other stakeholders for the fulfilment of its responsibilities. The ideal candidate will bring an understanding and experience of advocacy, global health and equity, communications, grant administration and overall programme management.

NCDA seeks applicants with suitable experience and background for a full-time role as Capacity Development Officer. This position reports to the UK-based Capacity Development Manager. This position is possible thanks to NCD Alliance’s partnerships with Bristol Myers Squibb and with the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency and is subject to yearly renewal. The role is based in London, UK, and is open to UK citizens and other applicants who already possess a valid work authorisation. The Capacity Development Officer would be mainly home-based/remote with the expectation to work from the London office 1 day a week.
Core responsibilities
Support the Capacity Development unit in grant administration duties, including grantee communications, grant awards and compliance, grantee reporting and monitoring and evaluation.
Support the organisation of the Our Views, Our Voices equity trainings, webinars, and events as required, including participant support, administrative functions, supporting curriculum development and evaluation.
Support advocacy capacity of national and regional NCD alliances by aligning the Our Views, Our Voices initiatives with the NCDA Advocacy Institute.
Support global advocacy and accountability efforts, as led by the Policy, Advocacy and Accountability unit ensuring linkages with national and regional level work.
Provide information on country level equity work in support of NCDA’s partnerships and membership efforts to leverage and further NCDA’s work in this area.
Support meaningful involvement of people living with NCDs at national, regional, and global level, boosting ongoing advocacy efforts and linking in with ongoing work part of the NCD Advocacy Institute.
Provide written content to promote and support the Our Views, Our Voices initiative, particularly on the theme of equity, through NCDA communication channels, including the Our Views, Our Voices digital platform and support the development of key knowledge resources.
Stay current on health equity issues, best practices, and emerging trends on the topic of health equity.
Maintain regular communications with relevant key stakeholders, including regional and national NCD alliances, Our Views, Our Voices advocates for advocacy and network updates relating to the initiative, as well as for mobilisation in relevant global opportunities.
Handle administrative responsibilities and Capacity Development work as needed.
Provide support at capacity development meetings as required, including administrative and content development support.
Look for opportunities to showcase the Our Views, Our Voices initiative in events and platforms.
Experience and skills
- Advanced university degree in public health, international relations, public policy, or similar, with a minimum of 2-3 years of relevant job-related non-profit experience.
- Demonstrated interest and understanding of health equity and social determinants of health; knowledge of global health and noncommunicable diseases would be ideal.
- International work experience highly desired, as well as professional knowledge of advocacy, grant administration, policy and/or programmes
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an international team environment.
- Excellent organisation and strategic planning skills, and ability to successfully manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
- Capacity to work sensitively in a global setting and with people and organisations representing those living with NCDs.
- Excellent written and communications skills in English – foreign language skills are a plus (Spanish and /or French).

Job Description
The Head of Advocacy and Policy will be responsible for developing an excellent Advice Service and Retention Team to support and advise students effectively to enable excellent student experience and satisfaction.
This role will lead on the development of effective insights, representation and support initiatives/campaigns for students, across our three campuses at Greenwich, Avery Hill and Medway.
This role will enhance work with the diverse student population of the University of Greenwich and lead a dynamic team to ensure students have consistent and accessible services that contribute to positive student experience.
This role sits within the wider Membership Services department, together with other key areas consisting of; Activities, Sport, Academic Communities, Representation and Democracy, we provide a high-quality service for students, that they can shape, steer and be at the heart of.
This postholder will be part of the GSU Senior Leadership Team and will be expected to contribute to department and organisation wide strategic development.
The post holder will:
- Have expert knowledge in areas of in relation to Advice and Retention and policies and legislation relating to such activity
- Support and develop strong student-led communities and campaigns in areas of: Advice, wellbeing and retention so that members can thrive
- Provide line management support to staff so that the team have up to date, specialist advice skills, knowledge and understanding of University regulations, policies and procedures that may affect the work of the Advice service and oversee engagement across Greenwich’s 3 campuses
- Undertake casework and provide expert advice for the team on all aspects of Advice
- Lead on the project management of wellbeing/health promotion campaigns and initiatives throughout the year, as well as any external bids through bodies such as OfS
- Oversee the Retention and Wellbeing Project work, and other relevant projects with external partners
- Lead on insights work relating to retention, wellbeing and support
- Lead on responses to external consultation and enquiry responses, including but not limited to OfS, Department for Education, OIA and Universities UK
- Support elected officers to deliver on campaigning priorities
- Ensure the Advice service has the skills and is equipped to support the diverse needs of students at Greenwich and Kent at Medway.
- Provide regular insights and reports on the GSU Membership to inform our strategy and service provision
- Work with other Heads to develop relevant and modern Front of House services for each GSU campus ensuring ease of access and consistency for all members.

- Develop succession plans and identify training and development opportunities within the team

- To maintain expert and up-to-date knowledge on sector policies and regulations relating to advice, retention and student success, providing relevant guidance to officers and staff as required.

Strategic Development
- Contribute to the strategic objectives of GSU, with a particular focus on advice, support and wellbeing in relation to the student experience
- Develop and oversee a new and innovative approach to proactive health and wellbeing campaigns that empower students to look after themselves and each other, as well as seeking support
- Lead on Access and Participation Plan Engagement, acting as the key contact on this area with the University.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with relevant senior UoG staff and departments including Student Academic Services, Faculties and our partners at Kent Unio
- Develop and oversee the Advice service to support advocacy initiatives at multiple levels within the University, ensuring both students and University stakeholders view GSU as a credible and reliable source of information on the needs of students.
Monitoring and Evaluation
- Develop and oversee a structured approach to gathering, analysing and reporting on data relating to engagement of students with our services and to student views on key issues relating to retention and success
- Develop and oversee processes of collecting quantitative and qualitative data from casework to analyse trends and inform feedback for the SU and university
- Ensure evaluation mechanism are embedded in the teams working practises and that findings are shared and used to implement learnings with the goal of improving services
- Support Officers by preparing information, statistics and trends about key services to be shared within the University committee cycle
- Be responsible for the implementation of service standards for the Advocacy and Policy Team and to monitor and report on adherence to these standards
- Prepare materials to apply for any relevant quality mark accreditations for the service.
Budget and Financial Management
- Manage a budget relating to Advocacy and Policy including any restricted funds.
- Be responsible for the teams resources, ensuring these are effectively allocated, managed and controlled
- Review and establish processes, systems, polices and where appropriate standard procedures to maximise efficiency ensure deadlines are met and a positive return on investment
- Review and provide narrative for scrutiny at monthly management meetings with the Finance Team
Stakeholder management
- Collaborate with GSU colleagues, particularly the Student Voice and Engagement Teams to ensure we have a consistent approach to how we work with and support students
- Work with students through our representative structures and forums to ensure we shape services students want and need, taking into consideration the varying campus priorities
- Maintain strong relationships with key university staff to develop, deliver and evaluate collaborative projects and interventions supporting advice and retention
- Attend meetings relating to Advocacy and Policy as well as associated areas at both GSU, the University and externally, included, but not limited to regional networks
- Identify opportunities to share best practice and represent the work of GSU and your team to the wider HE community, through conferences and publication.

The programme holds a particular focus on trauma and trauma-informed practice, including a specialist module on working with the impact of trauma, and on trauma-informed practice in education. The programme runs for one year full-time, or two years part-time.
