Job description

Job Title:  Chief Executive Officer
Hours:  Full time / permanent
Salary:  £70k
Location:  Bristol

We are working in partnership with The Royal Photographic Society (RPS), a prestigious charity which has been at the forefront of photography since 1853. The RPS exists to increase the knowledge and understanding of photography, to promote the highest standards of achievement in photography, and to encourage the public appreciation of photography.  Educational activity is central to their charitable status, and recent investment in new state-of-the-art facilities with a 200m2 gallery and 100-seat auditorium demonstrate their renewed commitment to greater public engagement and impact. The RPS has over 11,000 members globally, who enjoy opportunities to share knowledge, meet and learn from one another through over 600 events held every year.

The RPS is undergoing significant and exciting change and is looking to appoint a passionate and highly capable Chief Executive Officer to lead and develop the increasing impact of the organisation.

You will be an inspirational leader with the ability to quickly gain the trust and support of stakeholders, staff and volunteers, and a strategic thinker who can understand and manage complexity and competing demands to achieve tangible outcomes.

The successful candidate should demonstrate:

  • Clear leadership with a compelling vision for the RPS
  • Extensive transformational and change management experience
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing effective strategic and business development plans, including overseeing income generation strategy
  • High levels of business acumen and commercial awareness
  • Experience of working with and supporting a Board of Trustees

The post holder will be a highly-motivated, entrepreneurial and innovative individual with excellent communication skills who is adept at building lasting relationships both internally and externally.

You will be resilient, forward thinking and demonstrate strong influencing skills at all levels. A true belief in the ethos of the charity and the services they offer is essential and a background of working within the visual arts sector, charity sector or other relevant area is desirable.

This is an exceptional opportunity for a charismatic and ambitious leader.  If you have the skills and experience to succeed in this role, we very much look forward to hearing from you.

Please submit your CV with a supporting statement, to Jenny Warner, Managing Director of Charisma Charity Recruitment quoting our reference JO1739.
