The Huntington's Disease Association is a UK registered charity that supports people affected by Huntington's disease across England and Wales. We provide information, advice and support to families, friends, and healthcare professionals.

We are looking for an experienced Volunteer Manager to support and inspire those who volunteer for the charity. You will lead them in line with the vision, mission and values of the charity and work to fulfil the goals of our strategic plan. You will strengthen our current volunteering strands with effective governance and great communication and will develop new volunteering opportunities within the charity.

You will manage our volunteer-led Branches and Support groups who offer peer support, fundraising opportunities and activities locally. You will also manage HD Voice, our panel of volunteers, who contribute to the internal development of the charity and ensure that the voice of the Huntington’s community is at the heart of research into the condition.

You will co-ordinate all aspects of the volunteer journey from recruitment, selection, induction, training and ongoing support and develop effective policies, procedures and guidance for volunteers as well as developing an effective monitoring and evaluation process.

We are looking for someone with strong volunteer management skills who has experience of training volunteers and of writing policies, procedures and guidance in line with data protection guidance. Also someone with great communication and relationship management skills who has experience of managing volunteers at all stages of their volunteer journey.   

There will be regular evening and weekend work as many of our volunteers work themselves so need the support out of office hours. There will be a need for travel across England and Wales.

IT

· Ensure all staff have IT equipment from their first day of work, ensuring that they are able to access the IT support they need with minimal interruption to daily tasks.

About Schoolreaders:

Schoolreaders was launched ten years ago in Bedfordshire with the aim of recruiting volunteers to provide one-to-one reading support for children in primary schools across the country. Rape Crisis England & Wales works in partnership with three of our member centres to deliver the 24/7 Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Line. We lead on the digital infrastructure of the service, including the management of a Cloud Contact Centre and various internal systems used by Support Line operators and managers. At the core of RABI’s mission is the commitment to address the individual needs of farming people.  We offer one-to-one, expert support, advice and guidance, tailored to the individual circumstances of the farming person.

You will be part of a wider Volunteering team responsible for developing our approach to volunteering and engaging stakeholders and partners through local events, shows, talks etc.

We currently involve approximately 500 volunteers who help raise funds and awareness of RABI within local communities.  Most of our volunteers are linked to one of our 40 county committees across England & Wales.

You will take the lead for volunteering across a range of projects including the development and implementation of new volunteering systems and processes and the piloting of a new volunteer ambassador programme.  The role also includes the line management of the Volunteering Projects Co-ordinator. 

Key responsibilities:

Volunteering systems & processes

• As the lead ‘subject matter expert’ for volunteering, you will lead on the implementation of new volunteering systems & processes across RABI.  This includes making decisions to support system development, testing, communications and training for users.
• Work closely with the National Volunteering Manager and the team of Regional Managers, to ensure they are equipped and supported to make best use of the new systems. 
• Work with the Head of Volunteering and Volunteering Projects Co-ordinator to ensure the appropriate processes and policies are in place to support good practice and an accessible and inclusive volunteering experience.
• Lead on the evaluation of new systems & processes for volunteering and agree clear recommendations / priorities for future development.

Diversify and expand volunteer offer

• Lead on development and implementation of new volunteer roles – including the introduction of community and corporate ambassadors.
• Work with a range of stakeholders to clarify priorities for future development for new types of volunteering – from flexible, micro roles, to more formal roles such as volunteer ambassadors. 
• Develop and agree approach to volunteer recruitment, engagement and development – to support ambassadors and other roles.

Harrogate Homeless Project is seeking to recruit a Volunteer Coordinator to join the Fundraising and Marketing team.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the growth and development of Volunteering within the organisation. Working with the Fundraising and Marketing Manager, the position will look to develop opportunities for increasing income across fundraising and recruiting volunteers for all areas of HHP activities.

​The Role

This role will work with HHP’s Management Team to develop opportunities for all areas within the Charity. Regular activities will include, developing recruitment campaigns to promote volunteering with HHP, ensuring all volunteers receive an induction and appropriate training, and identifying specific skills volunteers have developed and matching these to suitable volunteer opportunities to maximise the benefits for HHP and the volunteer.

Harrogate Homeless Project provides people experiencing homelessness with a safe place to stay and the support they need to build confidence and move towards independent living.

YMCA East Surrey is looking to recruit a volunteer coordinator to drive the strategic objective of maintaining and building a culture of voluntary action.

Job Purpose:

To be responsible for coordinating volunteer recruitments, providing learning activities and providing volunteer management advice and guidance to staff who work with volunteers.

To establish positives relationships with volunteers to ensure they have a fulfilling volunteer experience.

To be responsible for transactional processes on the volunteer database ensuring it is up to date and delivers to meets the needs of volunteers and the organisation.

Main Responsibilities:

 -   To drive the strategic objective of maintaining and building the culture of voluntary action, empowering at least 300 volunteers per year by 2027.

– Lead recruitment and induction of volunteers for relevant services across the organisation by developing timelines for volunteer recruitments throughout the year.

– Lead on recruitment administration for volunteers including assisting with pre-employment checks and delivering induction course and on-boarding.

– To provide advice and guidance to service managers regarding suitability of potential roles with the relevant service managements.

– To provide effective and efficient administration of the volunteer databased ensuring all volunteer records are up to date.

– To maintain regular communication with volunteers, problem-solving and escalating any IT issues with the Head of Central Services as appropriate.

– To support line managers to ensure volunteers are aware of and adhere to YMCA ES policies, procedures, mission, vision, and values.

– To provide analysis as appropriate to the Head of Central Services on volunteer numbers, hours donated, activities and other metrics and impact measures.

– Ensure that volunteers have sufficient training, resources, and support to carry out their roles effectively, including developing and delivering a variety of reward and recognition activities to maximise engagement and retention of volunteers such as facilitating learning sessions.

– To promote the importance of volunteering internally through engagement activities, recognition schemes, and externally through recruitment drives, marketing and press campaigns, and other profile-raising activities.

– To obtain and provide analytics on volunteer engagement and facilitate peer group sessions to monitor progress of volunteers.

– To identify and oversee the design, development and delivery of relevant training, reward, and recognition activities to both upskill and retain volunteers.

– To work with the Head of Central Services to support the successful implementation of volunteer best practice and policy, to support the organisations strategic plan.

– Collaborate with the Head of Central Services and volunteers themselves to develop the volunteering programme, identifying and reducing barriers to volunteering and ensuring that all volunteering activity reflects YMCA ES values.

– To assist the Head of Central Services in the preparation of reports to the Senior Leadership Team and various committees as required.

– To assist the Head of Central Services in ensuring volunteer policies and procedures are maintained, up-to-date and fit for purpose.

– To support the coordination and delivery of key HR projects within the Department that will lead to the development of HR practices.

– To be responsible for the maintenance and storage of all volunteer data and records in line with the Data Protection Act and confidentiality.

– To develop and maintain effective relationships with all key stakeholders.

– To identify improvements and recommend these to the Head of Central Services for consideration.

– Any other duties as required by the line manager or Head of Department, which are commensurate with the grade/post

Hours of work: Full-time, A full-time working week would be Monday to Friday 9am-5pm with an unpaid break of one hour.

Location: Princes Road, Redhill, Surrey, RH1 6JJ.

Salary / pay rate: £28,000 to £30,000 per annum

Annual leave: 4 weeks per annum plus bank holidays. (Pro-rata for part time). The holiday year runs from 1 April to 31 March each year.

We're looking for someone with experience of verging or similar church support work. Good social skills are essential as is the ability to work as part of a team as well as on your own inititiave.  The ability to work closely with and relate well to all Cathedral staff, ministry team, congregation, volunteers, visitors, and members of the general public will also be required. 

The two Assistant Vergers and Precinct Officers (AVPOs) carry out a wide range of duties under the direction of the Head Verger and Precinct Manager.  Work includes: the careful setting up and delivery of all liturgical matters; ensuring a welcoming, clean, and safe environment for all working in, visiting, or using the Cathedral and Cathedral House and precinct and ensuring the day-to-day smooth running of the Cathedral for all.

Essential experience and skills

• Sympathy with the Christian faith.
• At least one year’s experience as a church or cathedral verger or in a similar role.
• A flexible attitude and willingness to take on a range of duties including practical ‘hands- on’ work.
• Attention to detail and an ability to assess priorities including when under pressure.
• Understanding of liturgy or willingness to learn.
• Ability to be a good team player and work collaboratively with Ministry Team, staff and volunteers.
• Willing to work alone.
• Good administrative and IT skills.
• Good understanding of the importance of security, maintenance and health and safety.
• Good social and communication skills.
• Have an open and welcoming attitude to all including volunteers and members of the general public.
• A trained First Aider (or willing to be trained upon appointment to an appropriate level).·
• Ability to work flexibly over seven days and evenings including holiday periods.

Desirable experience

• A communicant member of the Church of England.
• Previous experience in a liturgical capacity.
• Experience of working in an environment where paid and voluntary staff work side by side.
• Experience of delivering events.
• Experience of caretaking duties.
