Job description

Chair of the Board of Trustees

Landscape Institute is looking for an exceptional leader to help shape its future.

We are seeking a new Chair of the Board of Trustees to guide the organisation through its next phase of development. This is a unique opportunity to make a lasting impact on a respected charity and membership organisation at an exciting point in its journey.

Over the last few years, LI has been evolving and transforming to ensure it is fit for the future, delivering greater value for its members and wider public benefit through its charitable work. As part of this transformation, the roles of Chair of the Board and President have been separated, creating an opportunity for an independent Chair to bring fresh perspective, strong governance expertise and strategic leadership.

As Chair, you will play a key role in shaping the organisation's direction, working closely with the Chief Executive, President, Board of Trustees. You will help ensure the Board provides effective oversight, supports ambitious thinking and keeps the organisation focused on its charitable purpose and strategic priorities.

We're looking for someone who can:

  • Provide inspiring and effective leadership at Board level.
  • Champion strong governance and sound decision-making.
  • Support and drive strategic growth and organisational development.
  • Build positive relationships with trustees, members and key stakeholders.

We welcome applications from both members and non-members. We are particularly interested in hearing from individuals with experience of membership organisations at any of the following - Senior leadership level, charity governance, chairing a charity Board, significant leadership roles or chairing of large scale projects in the built and natural environment sectors.

The role is voluntary, with reasonable expenses covered. As Chair, you will also serve as a Trustee and must meet the eligibility requirements set out by the Charity Commission.

This is a chance to lead with purpose, shape the future of an important and influential organisation, and make a meaningful contribution to its members, sector and charitable mission.

Recruitment Pack is available.
