2 Programme assistant volunteer roles

Placement Volunteers at the British Red Cross are highly valued for the skills and energy they bring. We aim to provide our placement volunteers with an insight into the daily workings of the world’s largest humanitarian organisation. They will have access to relevant in-house training and development opportunities during their placement with possible ad hoc opportunities to get involved in other areas of activity.

Our placement volunteers will help make a great contribution to the work of the British Red Cross and will be responsible for achieving specific agreed objectives within one of our various departments.

About the role:

Ready To Help is a new British Red Cross programme that provides funding and support for young people aged 15-25 to design and deliver projects that help communities become stronger, more connected and more resilient.

We're looking for a creative and enthusiastic volunteer to help launch and promote the programme over a three-month placement. This is an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience supporting a national charity whilst helping young people turn their ideas into action.

Working alongside the Ready To Help Manager, you'll help create engaging resources, promote funding opportunities and connect with organisations that can help us reach young people across the UK.

**The expected start date for the placement is October 2026 and the placement will run for 3 months, weekdays, between 4 and 8 hours each week. **

This role would suit someone interested in marketing, communications, graphic design, stakeholder engagement, digital media, campaigns or community outreach. You'll have the opportunity to contribute to real projects, develop practical skills and help shape how the programme is experienced by young people and partner organisations.

Most volunteering can be completed remotely and the role is flexible around work, study and other commitments.

What you will be doing:

You'll work alongside the Ready To Help Manager to support promotion of the programme and improve engagement. Activities may include:

• Designing visually engaging versions of project resources such as the Ready To Help Applicant Information Pack, Frequently Asked Questions Sheet and Learning Journey.
• Creating promotional materials for schools, colleges, universities, youth groups and community organisations.
• Developing posters and digital resources.
• Helping identify organisations, networks and contacts that may be interested in promoting the programme.
• Building and maintaining a stakeholder contact database.
• Developing creative ideas to measure engagement and understand which promotional approaches are most effective.

We're looking for a volunteer who can help us raise awareness of the Ready To Help programme and ensure that as many young people as possible have the opportunity to access funding and support.

You'll help us communicate with a wide range of audiences, present information in engaging ways and develop creative approaches to promoting the programme. Your ideas and contributions will help ensure Ready To Help reaches the young people who could benefit from it most.

We'd love to hear from people who:

• Have an eye for design and enjoy creating resources that are visually appealing, easy to understand and engaging for different audiences.

• Can work independently whilst also collaborating with others.

Bursary Scheme

The British Red Cross offers a bursary scheme to those placement volunteers from low-income households. Eligibility will be determined through a separate application process open to all short-listed candidates. All British Red Cross volunteers are entitled to out-of-pocket reasonable expenses. For this scheme we are defining low-income households as: Inside London: Living with family or partner £25,000 or under. Living independently £22.500 or under Outside London: Living with family or partner £18,500 or under. Living independently £16,500 or under
