Evolve counselling is seeking additional experienced senior leadership professionals to join us as Trustees (voluntary) in general governance roles and also specialists in mental health and counselling therapies (delivery and standards), plus commercial business development – to contribute to our sustainability and growth ambitions. 

We are focussed on creating a platform for growth, to meet the surge in demand for counselling therapies. With a recent change of Chair, other new Trustees joining the board, and the retirement of our current CEO on the horizon, this is a time of change and the next three years are crucial for success. 

We welcome applications from individuals with backgrounds in any of the following areas:  

• Business strategy and planning  

• Commerce/industry/NHS/Government 

• Charitable Governance - and the Nolan Principles of public life 

• Working at senior strategic levels within the charity/CIO sector

It is, of course, crucial that all our trustees can commit to bring time, energy, engagement, and expertise to our work. In addition to taking decisions on major matters they participate though committees and working groups, guiding and encouraging the efforts of our small and resolute management team though their own experience and contacts. 

Details 

Trustee – Evolve Counselling CIO (1181861)  

• Location: Remote/Cambridgeshire area  

• Voluntary role: Reasonable expenses paid.  

• Time commitment: The board meets 4-5 times per year mostly online, with an AGM in person meeting, and four committees meeting at various intervals. An average commitment is about 1-2 days per month outside office hours. 

• Term: Negotiable. Trustees generally commit to a three-year term, extendable by re-election. 

• Application closing date: Applications are sought on a rolling basis. 

About Us:  

Evolve Counselling is a long-established charitable social enterprise, providing low cost, affordable or funded mental health counselling to adults in Cambridgeshire and surrounding counties. Our counselling community is made up of 50 – 60 qualified self-employed practitioners, working part-time. We deliver talking therapies to adults – online and in person. Our service delivers around five hundred counselling sessions per month to a broad range of individuals, many of whom would not otherwise be able to access counselling support. Evolve also provides supervision, reflective practice, critical incident support, and mental health awareness and related training, to organisations and businesses large and small.  

Who we’re Looking For:  

Our Trustee Board is currently drawn from the counselling and therapies community, plus commercial, public sector, and other charity backgrounds. Now, with crucial development of the CIO ahead, we are looking for new members to expand the Board to its maximum ten places and to gain skills and insight from an equal, diverse and inclusive group that takes in business skills, knowledge of charities, expertise in health services, and experience of not-for-profit leadership and finances, to make growth plans a reality.  

The Board will keep us on track with good governance through oversight of our work and will also help our new CEO to secure a sound financial base from which to grow our operations to meet the ever-increasing demand for our services.

To telephone befriendees at their home for approximately 10 to 30 minutes, you will arrange the specific times of your future calls directly with them. These calls are intended to occur once a week, but individual needs will be matched with your availability.To provide a telephone conversation, a listening ear and chat about interests and hobbies, helping to alleviate loneliness and feelings of isolation. To provide companionship and human interaction at a time when this may be limited. To provide an update after each call to the Telephone Befriending support Team. This is so we can keep a track of the amount of befriending calls each volunteer is undertaking, the type of support being offered during these calls and if there is anything further required.

It is important to note telephone befriending is not counselling or therapy and other services must be sought if this is required.

We are looking to create a team of advisors to support our work at Brighton Permaculture Trust. This role allows you to share your knowledge in your field or offer a fresh perspective on important decisions.

We will be looking for some ad hoc advice on specific issues from time to time, and for people to join an advisory board meeting, probably twice a year. 

We are creating this new role to support our trustees, enabling us to include wider experience and more diverse voices. 

We are also rectuiting to our board of trustees. 

On Tuesday 09 June, the London Legal Support Trust (LLST), will host its annual fundraising event, the London Legal Walk, bringing the legal community together to raise funds in support of free legal advice charities across London and the South East.

Last year over 18,000 legal professionals from over 1000 organisations took on the challenge, stepping up for justice. To make this year’s event an even bigger success, we are on the lookout for enthusiastic and dedicated 1-day event marshals to join one of the largest single day fundraising events in the country and add value to the thousands of event attendees.

The event is attended by high ranking judiciary, the President of the Law Society, the lady Chief Justice and hundreds of London’s top law firms, advice agencies, and chambers. Want to be part of this special day and add skills to your CV? Take a look at some of the tasks you will be expected to undertake below:

Tasks

You will be positioned at a “cheer point” along the 10km route, where it will be your role to cheer and motivate walkers and offer support and encouragement as they go past. Your presence alone is enough to motivate thousands across the line and help raise as many funds as possible through a positive event experience. Other tasks may also include the setting up of the street party, registration desks, and stalls, as well as supporting in the cloakrooms.

Regular email contact and a full brief are provided so you are fully confident ahead of supporting this event. There will also be time to ask any questions and you will be provided information packs about your point on the route.

After you’re done, you will be able to enjoy the street party!

The Role of Trustee and executive Trustee roles are voluntary positions. Trustee Responsibilities :

The Board as a whole is collectively responsible for the success of the charity. A Trustee is a Board Member and has a number of responsibilities in order to ensure robust management of the charity including:

• Make decisions objectively in the interests of the charity.
• Implement Hopian’s Vision, Mission, and Values.
• Lead on the aims and objectives of Hopian by raising awareness of domestic and sexual abuse, and child sexual exploitation and abuse and its impact on individuals and their families.

Trustee Duties :

• Ensuring that the organisation pursues its stated objects (purposes), as defined in its governing document, by developing and agreeing a long-term strategy.
• Ensuring that the organisation complies with its governing document (i.e. constitution or memorandum and articles of association), charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations.
• Ensuring that the organisation applies its resources in pursuance of its charitable objects (i.e., the charity must not spend money on activities that are not included in its own objects) .
• Ensuring that the organisation defines its goals and evaluates performance against agreed targets.
• Safeguarding the good name and values of the organisation.
• Ensuring the effective and efficient administration of the organisation, including having appropriate policies and procedures in place.
• Ensuring the financial stability of the organisation.
• Protecting and managing the property of the charity and ensuring the proper investment of the charity’s funds.
• To work in the interests of the charity and not for personal gain.
• To ensure that the Board Members takes proper professional advice on matters in which it does not have competence.

In addition to the above statutory duties, each trustee should use any specific skills, knowledge or experience they have to help the board of trustees reach sound decisions. This may involve scrutinising board papers, leading discussions, focusing on key issues, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives, or other issues in which the trustee has special expertise.

• To work with other Board Members to form an effective governing body for the charity.
• To attend meetings and to read papers in advance of meetings.

• To maintain a long-term overview of the charity and its work.

Person Specification

We are looking for a  Trustee who has an understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities, and liabilities of trusteeship. It is expected that a Trustee takes ownership to develop and maintain this understanding and application of duties. In addition to having:

Time Requirements

Who are LRMN?

We offer refugees, asylum seekers and other migrants a specialist and holistic service. We advocate for people’s rights, campaign for wider change, meet their basic needs and help them improve their wellbeing.

Why do we need you?

The Women Together Project supports refugee and asylum-seeking women who have experienced trauma, including Gender-Based Violence (rape, torture, FGM, forced marriage, domestic violence etc.). We are a member of the BACP and adhere to the BACP Ethical Framework. Our approach is broadly integrative, drawing on woman-centred/ feminist, holistic, cross-cultural and mind-body perspectives.

The project consists of 1-1 counselling and advocacy and a weekly women’s nurture/ health group. 

We are currently seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and committed female volunteer counsellor to support our work.

What activities will you be involved in?

As a Volunteer Counsellor, you will:

• Offer 1-1 counselling to women from diverse cultures and backgrounds who have experienced trauma, including gender-based violence (this may involve working with an interpreter). This can be done at LRMN’s office or remotely as per clients’ need.

• Meet and maintain our standards regarding confidentiality and equal opportunities, and manage and be accountable for your own work.

• Keep accurate and up-to-date records of all counselling interventions on file and/or electronically.

• Carry out monitoring and evaluation tasks as advised by the Women’s Project Manager.

• Attend team meetings and contribute to information-sharing and discussion around best practice.

• Incorporate project approaches into practice – eg holistic/ feminist/ cross-cultural theories.

• Undertake training in areas relevant to VAWG, refugee and asylum policy and own professional development.

• Work flexibly and from a human rights perspective, remaining open to the challenges faced by this client group.

• Communicate effectively with other members of the therapeutic team and LRMN advice teams, making effective and sensitive referrals where necessary.

• Undertake own clinical supervision either in house or externally.

What can you gain from this opportunity?

By volunteering with LRMN, you will:

• Be part of a small, passionate team working towards improving the lives of some of the most disadvantaged women in UK society

• Monthly group clinical supervision

• Receive direct support and guidance from the Project Manager, as well as additional support from LRMN’s other staff

• Be provided out of pocket expenses to the value of £6 for lunch per day (4+ hours) & up to £15 travel expenses (this applies to qualified volunteers in the office for 4+hours)

Is there induction and training?

Yes, we provide a comprehensive induction to all new volunteers. This covers roles and responsibilities, safeguarding and record keeping.

You will be provided with the training (not clinical) needed to perform the role and will have the opportunity to join training with the whole LRMN team.
