Care volunteer roles

Our Second Home is a youth movement that empowers migrants and refugees to flourish in the place that they call home. Our overnight activity camp for young people aged 14-18 is a chance for young people to come together and have five days of fun and excitement, supported by a dynamic and dedicated team of leaders and staff.

An OSH Leader is a supportive adult, a role model, and someone young people can feel safe being themselves around. It’s about creating a warm, fun, and consistent presence during residentials — helping young people with refugee and migrant backgrounds feel welcomed, included, and at home.

Youth Leaders for this project will be responsible for facilitating the camp, and will be directly in contact with, and responsible for, the participants. During the camp they will be ‘on duty’ full-time, meaning that they will spend the whole time with the participants, including at meals.

THIS ROLE IS ONLY FOR PEOPLE LIVING IN THE UK. We will arrange Zoom interviews with applicants separately.

Responsibilities:

• Interacting and forming a bond with the participants
• Creating and running fun and engaging activities for the participants
• Looking after the participants’ welfare, and ensuring that they feel cared for and secure
• Managing the participants’ behaviour and setting clear boundaries

Expectations and requirements:

• All applicants must be interviewed and be willing to provide references on request.
• Youth Leaders must set a positive example of behaviour and involvement for all participants, and adhere to the volunteer guidelines.
• Youth Leaders may be required to prepare activities for participants at the camp. If asked, this must be completed in plenty of time to allow any materials or equipment to be sourced.
• Applicants should be aged 20 or above.
• Applicants must be eligible for DBS clearance (no criminal record that prevents applicants from working with children)
• Youth Leaders must raise any safeguarding concerns swiftly and follow safeguarding procedures
• Youth Leaders must follow all Our Second Home policies and procedures of (which will be explained at the Camp training days).
• Anyone attending an OSH residential must test negative for COVID-19 prior to attending the programme, regardless of whether they have received a vaccine or not.

Structure:

Youth Leaders will be supported by the Welfare Support Lead(s), who will be their main contact in the build to and throughout the camp. The Welfare Support Lead(s) will run team meetings at the end of each day and be on hand to advise and manage the Youth Leaders.

About the role

The Treasurer is a key member of the Board of Trustees, helping to ensure Claremont’s financial health, sustainability and good governance.

Working closely with the Chair, CEO and bookkeeper, the Treasurer supports the Board in overseeing the charity’s financial affairs and ensuring appropriate financial stewardship.

The Treasurer will:

• Support the Board in fulfilling its financial governance responsibilities.
• Help ensure that effective financial controls and reporting systems are in place.
• Provide oversight and constructive challenge regarding budgets, forecasts and financial planning.
• Assist the Board in understanding Claremont’s financial position and long-term sustainability.
• Support compliance with Charity Commission and Companies House financial requirements.
• Chair or participate in finance-related committee meetings where appropriate.
• Contribute strategically to the future development of the organisation.

NEW TRUSTEES AND TREASURER WANTED FOR AGE UK MERTON BOARD

Age UK Merton is an independent charity operating within the national Age UK network. We provide services for older adults in the London Borough of Merton in south-west London. Our role is to ensure that older adults can easily access the support, services and care they need and to help older adults to live active and fulfilling lives. Our comprehensive services are specifically designed to support older people and reach around 3,000 Merton residents a year.

Age UK Merton has a strong and diverse Board comprising a group of Trustees from a wide variety of backgrounds. We are looking to recruit at least one new Trustee and a new Treasurer to join the Board at the AGM in November 2026, when our current Treasurer is due to step down.

In addition to the Trustee person specification, there are a number of specific requirements for the Treasurer role.

· Financial qualifications and experience. 

· A strong understanding of analysing management accounts and forecasting cash flow.

· A strong understanding of creating and monitoring budgets.

· Some experience of charity finance, fundraising and pension schemes. 

· The skills to analyse proposals and understand their financial consequences. 

· A willingness to be available to staff for advice and enquiries on an ad hoc basis.

Role description – Trustee

Trustees have a number of core duties, including ensuring the organisation complies with its governing document, charity law, company law, and relevant legislation; ensuring it pursues its objectives as defined in its governing document; actively contributing to Board discussions and giving strategic direction to the organisation; ensuring the financial stability of the organisation; and ensuring the effective and efficient administration of the organisation.

In addition, Trustees should use any specific skills, knowledge or experience they have to help the Board to reach sound decisions, including by scrutinising Board papers, leading discussions, focusing on key issues and working on sub-committees and working groups.

Role description – Treasurer

The role of the Treasurer is to maintain an overview of Age UK Merton’s finances, ensuring financial viability and that proper financial record-keeping and procedures are maintained.

In addition to the duties of a Trustee, the duties of the Treasurer are: 

· Chairing the Finance Committee and reporting to the Board.

· Ensuring the financial resources of Age UK Merton meet its present and future needs. 

· Ensuring that Age UK Merton has appropriate reserves and investment policies. 

· Undertaking spot checks on payroll and online payments. 

· Ensuring that appropriate accounting procedures and controls are in place. 

· Advising on the financial implications of Age UK Merton’s strategic plans. 

· Ensuring that there is no conflict between any investment held and the aims and objects of Age UK Merton. 

· Monitoring Age UK Merton’s investment activity and ensuring its consistency with Age UK Merton’s policies and legal responsibilities. 

· Ensuring that accounts are prepared and disclosed in the form required by funders and the relevant statutory bodies, e.g. the charity commission and/or the registrar of companies. 

· Ensuring that accounts are scrutinised through the annual audit and any recommendations are implemented. 

· Keeping the Board informed about its financial duties and responsibilities. 

· Making a formal presentation of the accounts at the AGM and drawing attention to important points in a coherent and easily understandable way. 

Commitment required

Trustees have a significant responsibility within the organisation, so it is important that you can commit time to read and consider papers and reports, attend meetings and contribute to discussions and decision-making.

Trustees meet a minimum of six times a year, which usually includes four Board meetings, the AGM and an away day. Board meetings are held in the evening, with the AGM held in the afternoon and the away day held during a working day. We alternate between in-person and remote meetings. We also have sub-committees which meet several times a year, also in the evenings.

Trustees are expected to devote the necessary time to ensure they are fully prepared to actively participate in all meetings.

In addition to the above, the Treasurer would have a regular catch-up meeting with the Head of Finance.

Activity

An ‘Activity’ may be any part of daily life, done with intention, and appropriate to the resident concerned. You may be supporting an individual or you may be running a group quiz, helping on trips, or leading a sing-a-long! You may come to the role with a definite skill you would like to share – flower arranging, crafts, woodwork, music - or you may come to offer general support to whatever is running, and whoever is in need.

Would you like to help tackle loneliness, one conversation at a time?

Loneliness and isolation can have devastating effects on a person’s mental and physical health. We are a registered charity providing a pathway of support to alleviate the hurt and distress, and the impact on mental and physical health, caused by loneliness and social isolation. 

We are seeking Volunteer Drivers, to provide transport in their own vehicle, bringing Friends (people who use our services) to and returning them home from an Archway supportive social group. Occasionally we organise Archway Fundraising activities or events where may be asked to provide transport to an Archway Fundraising activity or event.  Some Archway Friends (people who use our services) are unable to attend a supportive social group independently, mainly due to physical barriers to public transport. Transport delivered by volunteers enables Friends to access the supportive social group, in turn alleviating loneliness. The groups may be the only opportunity for Friends to meet with others. Each Friend is invited to one group per month either in Oxford or Abingdon so transport volunteers usually offer one trip per month or more if they like.

We ask volunteers to think of this as a longer term volunteer role due to the training and time we take in order to give our volunteers, and Friends, the very best service. You will also need to consider occasional time spent in training for your role and for continuous development. 

For all our roles:

Due to our Safeguarding regulations, unfortunately we are only able to accept applications from UK residents. 

Enhanced DBS checks for working with vulnerable adults (formerly called criminal records bureau checks)  which we will organise (no cost to this) and two references are required.

For any roles involving driving Archway Friends, we will need to see evidence of insurance and driving license as well as MOT and tax documents for the vehicle to be used.

We will happily cover out of pocket expenses (eg mileage).

We provide training relevant to the roles as well as ongoing supervision, guidance and support for all volunteers.

This is an onsite, self-funded international volunteer and internship placement located in Ghana. This opportunity is open ONLY to international applicants traveling from outside the African continent (including Europe, North America, South America, Asia, Australia, and Antarctica). Because SFLIG Volunteers operates on a sustainable, grassroots model, participants must fully fund their own experience, including international flights, visa arrangements, and the program fee which covers safe community housing, daily meals, airport pickup, and 24/7 onsite support. As a charity we are able to help thousands of cats each year thanks to the generous donations we receive from members of the public. Our fundraising volunteers use their passion for cats and people to raise the vital funds needed to help more cats and kittens in need. As a fundraising volunteer we want to support you to fundraise in whatever way suits you best, whether that’s organising a fundraising event, fundraising online, promoting fundraising activities on social media, completing administration or supporting the development of new fundraising ideas! Whatever your skill set, this could be the role for you!

What we need from you

This is a really flexible role, you can choose what you’d like to get involved with, for example: 

• face-to-face fundraising. Organising or helping with fundraising events, running supermarket collections and fundraising stands, monitoring collection tins 

• online fundraising. Setting up online appeals and writing impactful cat case studies that maximise donations

• marketing. Spreading the word about our fundraising activities, for example on social media and with the local press  

• completing administration. Processing donations, sorting and recording donated goods, completing Gift Aid paperwork

● championing our work. Getting involved with developing new fundraising ideas and increasing community engagement

● photography. Capturing images of cats in care, cats we are helping, events and all things Cats Protection

The Treasurer will play a pivotal role in helping PRDA build a stronger, more resilient organisation so that we can support more people living with the long-term effects of pelvic radiotherapy.

What will you be doing?

PRDA is entering an exciting new phase of development. Over the past two years we have expanded our services, grown our income, increased our partnerships with healthcare professionals and strengthened our support for people living with Pelvic Radiation Disease. We now have a small staff team supported by a committed Board of Trustees, and we are focused on building a financially sustainable organisation that can continue to grow its reach and impact.

Our Board currently consists of six trustees and a Chair, bringing together expertise from healthcare, patient advocacy, communications, governance and the charity sector. We work collaboratively and maintain a close, supportive relationship with the staff team. While the Board's primary role is strategic, we are a small charity where trustees are encouraged to share their expertise and contribute in practical ways when appropriate.

Our current Treasurer will be stepping down at the end of 2026, creating an exciting opportunity for someone to help shape the next stage of PRDA's journey.

As Treasurer, you will work closely with the Chair, our Operations Manager and fellow trustees to provide strategic financial oversight. You will help the Board understand the charity's financial position, oversee budgeting, reserves and cashflow, review financial reporting and support good financial governance. You will also play an important role in ensuring the charity continues to meet its regulatory responsibilities and can make informed decisions as we continue to grow.

Our Board meets online four or five times a year, together with an annual in-person strategy day. Between meetings, the Treasurer will provide occasional advice and support to the Chair and staff team on financial matters and funding opportunities as required.

Over the next three years we have ambitious plans to expand our patient support services, strengthen our education for healthcare professionals, increase awareness of Pelvic Radiation Disease and diversify our income so that our services remain sustainable for the future. This is an opportunity to join a Board at a time when thoughtful financial leadership will directly influence how quickly and effectively we can achieve those ambitions.

Perhaps most importantly, this is a chance to join a friendly, engaged Board where your contribution will be genuinely valued. In a small charity like PRDA, trustees are close to the organisation's work and can clearly see the difference their expertise makes.

By providing robust financial oversight and constructive challenge, you will help us balance ambition with responsible stewardship of our resources.

This role offers the opportunity to influence the future of a charity that is still relatively small but growing rapidly. Your advice will directly inform decisions about how we develop our services, respond to new opportunities and maximise the impact of every pound we raise.

Ultimately, your contribution will enable PRDA to reach more patients and families, provide more high-quality information and peer support, strengthen education for healthcare professionals and continue advocating for earlier diagnosis and better care for people affected by Pelvic Radiation Disease.

Unlike trusteeship in many larger organisations, your impact at PRDA will be visible. You will work alongside a committed Board and staff team who value collaboration, welcome new ideas and recognise the importance of good governance in achieving meaningful change.

Volunteer with halow!

Make a difference, have fun, and be part of our community

Our volunteers play a vital role in helping halow’s young people enjoy new experiences, build friendships, and take part in activities they love.

As a Gardening Volunteer, you’ll support our kitchen allotment, helping to plan, grow, and care for a variety of vegetables, fruits, flowers, and plants. The produce grown can be used in our cooking sessions or shared with local community groups. Although our offices are based in Guildford, we welcome volunteers from various places, as opportunities for their support arise all over Surrey. They are not expected to come to us with any previous experience; all we ask for is commitment and a willingness to work with our young people.

Who can volunteer?

No previous experience is needed,we’re looking for people who are enthusiastic, reliable, and willing to support our young people. Although our office is based in Guildford, volunteering opportunities are available across Surrey

Volunteer Befriender: Home-Start Westminster, Kensington & Chelsea, and Hammersmith & Fulham

Do you have experience with young children and have two hours to spare a week?

Are you a compassionate and reliable person who wants to make a real difference in the lives of families?

Home-Start WKCHF is looking for volunteers to support parents and children who are facing challenges such as isolation, mental health struggles, or financial difficulties.

About the Role

As a Home-Start volunteer, you will provide emotional and practical support to families with young children in their own homes. Your role may involve:                                                                                                                                                     

• Offering friendship, a listening ear and encouragement
• Helping parents build confidence in their parenting skills
• Providing practical support such as accompanying families to appointments, family hubs or groups
• Signposting to additional services and community resources

What We’re Looking For

• A friendly and non-judgmental attitude
• Experience parenting or caring for children
• Good listening and communication skills
• Commitment to volunteering for two hour per week for a minimum of six months
• Willingness to attend free preparation course and undergo a DBS / reference checks
