Charity Trustee Have you got experience as a senior leader in health, hospitals or social care? Would you like to use your experience to make a meaningful difference to unpaid carers across Surrey? Action for Carers Surrey is seeking a new trustee to join our Board. We are a dedicated, passionate charity determined to make a difference to young and adult carers across Surrey by providing advice, support and advocacy. With over 100,000 unpaid carers in Surrey, our work has never been more important. Our vision is that every unpaid carer in Surrey is heard, valued and supported. Who we’re looking for Following the retirement of a trustee with extensive knowledge and experience of Surrey County Council’s political, social and healthcare landscape, we are particularly keen to appoint a trustee with comparable senior level expertise. Most likely, this will have been obtained in an environment such as:
It may have been gained whilst in employment or in an elected role, either within the public or voluntary/charity sector. Potentially you may have gained this knowledge and understanding as a carer and user of these services. What you will bring
As a trustee, you will be collectively responsible for setting the charity’s strategy in line with its vision and for ensuring proper governance. Our board works in partnership with the CEO and senior leadership team as they deliver this strategy. Your background in health or social care will be influential and help to shape the future of ACS at this critical time. We are proud that a majority of our board have lived experience as an unpaid carer. Whilst not essential, any experience you may have currently or in the past, will strengthen the representation of carers on the board. Most vitally, you will have the opportunity to improve the lives of unpaid carers of all ages across Surrey. Previous trustee directorship experience is not required. In return You will be joining a dynamic and engaged board of trustees which has a good working relationship with an experienced and dedicated CEO. We have an induction programme which includes initial training and the opportunity to meet the trustees and key staff, and all our trustees are encouraged to undertake ongoing training. Trustees have the opportunity to mentor staff and participate in occasional short term working groups which comprise a mix of trustees and staff. This is a voluntary role, with reasonable expenses reimbursed. About our Trustee Team
Our Trustees are a team of volunteers who use their diverse skills, experiences, and perspectives to set the strategic direction of the charity and make sure it’s doing what it was set up to do in the best possible way.
Family Holiday Charity has an ambitious strategy over the next few years, which will see us expand our services to families, develop our influencing work within the travel and leisure industry and government, and evolve our ways of working so that we can accept and use gifted breaks, travel and other services at scale, to give families who really need it a holiday.
To help us do all that we’ll need the guidance, challenge, connections, and support of all our Trustees.
Given our goals, we’re particularly looking to add the following professional skills and experiences to our team.
- HR-Focused- a Trustee who will serve as Chair of the Nomination & Remuneration Committee, providing strategic oversight of people, culture and organisational development whilst acting as the Board’s Safeguarding lead and supporting the Charity’s safeguarding assurance framework. Prior safeguarding experience is desirable but not essential.
The Commitment
We’ll ask you to participate in four two-hour Board Meetings per year, typically in person at our office in London or remotely.We also get together for a Strategy Day in September/October, which is held on a weekday in London, and you’d need to attend that in person.
We can support with any access needs for in-person meetings.,
There are two Board sub-committees- one which focuses on our Finances and Risk, and one which considers our people (Trustees and Staff). Once you’ve settled into the role, most Trustees join one of them. They meet remotely around four times a year.
Outside of formal meetings, you’ll be warmly encouraged to get to know the staff team, and attend fundraising events
or other events to meet referrers, families, and supporters wherever possible.
Overall, you’ll need to be able to commit around 6 hours each month for a mix of meetings and events, contributing
your skills and perspective to projects, building your knowledge of the charity and developing as a Trustee.

Carers Support Chair of Trustees

About Carers Support
We are an independent charity supporting thousands of unpaid carers of all ages across Bristol and South Gloucestershire. We provide advice, information, practical help, emotional support, training, young carers services and more.
About the role
As Chair of Trustees, you will:
- Lead the Board and help set the charity’s strategic direction
- Support and work closely with the Chief Executive
- Make sure the Board fulfils its legal and governance duties
- Encourage a positive, open and inclusive Board culture
- Ensure meetings are well-run and support good discussion and decision-making
- Help the charity respond to the needs and views of unpaid carers
- Ensure risks, finances and performance are monitored effectively

- Live within 45 minutes of our Norfolk sanctuary and can transport cats for vet visits or adopter meet-and-greets. *
- Have other pets familiar with cats and any resident cats must be up to date with vaccinations.
- Can provide a safe, secure, and indoor environment (catios may be accepted case by case).
- Can offer minimal leaving hours if your foster cat has dietary or medication needs.
- Are willing to commit to fostering cats long-term, providing a stable and loving environment.
- Understand some cats may not be suitable for homes with young children.
**We will consider applicants who live further but are still willing to travel to the sanctuary for appointments.
Foster Carer Responsibilities:
- Daily Care: Feed, groom, socialise, and provide a safe, loving environment for your foster cat under guidance from your foster coordinator.
- Appointments: You will bring your cats to the sanctuary for vet visits or adopter meet-and-greets; urgent visits may be needed if a cat becomes unwell.
- Stay Connected: You will keep in touch with your foster coordinator, providing updates, photos, and completing assessments.
- Follow Their Plan: Each cat has a tailored care program—by following it, you give your foster cat the best chance of success.
- Adoption: If you decide to adopt your foster cat, let us know early so we can complete checks and paperwork smoothly.

Foster Carer Responsibilities:
- Daily Love & Care: Feed, groom, and socialise your foster rabbits, giving them the warmth and attention they deserve.
- Attending appointment: Bring your rabbits to the sanctuary for vet visits or adoption meet-and-greets. Urgent vet trips may be needed if your foster becomes unwell.
- Stay Connected: Share updates and photos to help us track their progress.
- Follow Their Plan: By following each rabbit's tailored care program, you ensure they have the best chance of success.
