- Support and provide advice on Safer Places’ purpose, vision, goals and activities
- Approve operational strategies and policies and monitor and evaluate their implementation
- Oversee Safer Places’ financial plans and budgets and monitor and evaluate progress
- Ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organisation
- Ensure that key risks are being identified, monitored and controlled effectively Review and approve Safer Places’ financial statements
- Keep abreast of changes in the operating environment
- Contribute to regular reviews of Safer Places’ own governance.
- Attend Board meetings, adequately prepared to contribute to discussions
- Use independent judgment, acting legally and in good faith to promote and protect Safer Places’ interests, to the exclusion of personal and/or any third-party interests
- Contribute to the broader promotion of Safer Places’ objects, aims and reputation by applying your skills, expertise, knowledge and contacts

Role Description:
This role sits within our new Coproduction and Transformation Project
The role of the Co-Production Volunteer is central to the success of the Co-Production and Transformation and Engagement Project. Volunteers bring lived experience, local knowledge, and critical perspectives to support the redesign of mental health services, so they are inclusive, accessible, and rooted in the real needs of those who use them.
This role exists to ensure that service users, carers, and community members have a meaningful voice in shaping decisions that affect care delivery. Volunteers will work alongside professionals, clinical teams, and other stakeholders to challenge assumptions, identify gaps, highlight strengths, and co-create improvements. Whether drawing from personal experiences of mental health challenges, supporting someone through the system, or working in the community, volunteers act as equal partners in transformation. They help build bridges between professionals and service users, promote accountability, and encourage a culture of openness and innovation.
Through structured engagement such as workshops, advisory groups, feedback panels, and co-design activities, the Co-Production Volunteers will contribute to the long-term sustainability and responsiveness of mental health services. Their insights help ensure that care is not only clinically effective but also emotionally safe, culturally sensitive, and aligned with what matters most to the people it serves.
Main Tasks
· Attend monthly co-production workshops, steering groups, or feedback sessions
· Share personal and/or collective experiences to inform service transformation
· Provide administrative support- send and respond to emails, input information on our database
· Review materials and provide feedback (e.g., policies, pathways, information leaflets)
· Participate in recruitment panels, focus groups, and pilot testing where appropriate
· Help create accessible, inclusive spaces that welcome diverse voices
· Promote equality, dignity, and psychological safety within meetings
· Support evaluation activities and co-authoring of reports or recommendations
· Uphold HFEH Mind values and behaviours
We are looking for someone who:
· Has lived experience of mental health challenges
· Good communicator
· Passionate about improving NHS West London Mental Health services
· Are a non-judgmental and friendly individual
· Lived experience of mental health services (personal or as a carer/family member/community member)
· A commitment to improving mental health care and reducing stigma
· Willingness to share personal insights in a respectful and constructive way
· Openness to listen and engage with others from diverse backgrounds
· Ability to attend meetings and participate reliably (online or in person)
· Basic communication and interpersonal skills (speaking, listening, expressing views)
· Comfortable working as part of a group, including with professionals and other volunteers
· Respect for confidentiality and group boundaries
· Ability to reflect, ask questions, and provide feedback on ideas, documents or processes

The British Red Cross is offering a Career Taster week which will give you an insight into the world of work with world’s biggest humanitarian organisation and the charity sector. The week will include workshops, training and a virtual networking event at the end of the week!
Work experience placements give an opportunity to gain experience within different departments and an insight into the work of the British Red Cross.
The placement will run from the 23rd February to 27th February 2026, from 10.00 - 13.00 each day. The sessions will be online via teams.
The scheme is predominantly open to young people aged 15- 25 year olds and there are 30 places available.
The week will cover the following:
Induction to the British Red Cross: You will learn about the history of the movement, our work and fundamental principles as well as gaining First Aid skills.
Career Development Workshop: In this workshop you will learn about career opportunities, be able to develop your CV and application writing skills as well as learn interview skills.
Digital Media: You will learn about how to keep yourself safe online and what different annotations me in the social media world.
International Humanitarian Law: You will learn about humanitarian law and what it means in today’s society.
Networking Event: You will meet staff members from different teams and learn about their career journeys!

Why we want you
As a community engagement volunteer you and your fellow branch members will create a range of activities to help spread the word about SSAFA within your community to ensure that that our Armed Forces community know that SSAFA are here to help and that we need the public’s support to continue offering our services.
This role is diverse and allows for you to focus on the areas that you have skills or interests in. The role has flexibility and can work around your other commitments.
Below are some examples of possible activities you can take on or be a part of as a SSAFA Community Engagement Volunteer.
What you will be doing
- Activity Organisers - Love planning? Help coordinate amazing events like charity dinners, carol concerts, and local fairs.
- Event Champions - Be the friendly face of SSAFA! Help at events, chat with visitors, sell merchandise, and spread the word about our work.

- Promoting SSAFA Services - Help provide a warm, welcoming presence at Veterans Breakfast clubs, cafes or hubs - offering information about SSAFA services and signposting as appropriate.
- SSAFA Storytellers -Deliver engaging talks to organisations and groups, sharing SSAFA’s incredible history and mission.
- Community Connectors - Collaborating with the Community Engagement Manager to establish a local network, promote SSAFA's services, and respond to community opportunities such as gardening projects.
- Fundraising Heroes - Whether it’s rallying local businesses, organising events, or getting creative with unique fundraising ideas, you’ll play a crucial role in keeping SSAFA’s support going strong.
- Administrators - Are you detail-oriented and love keeping things organised? Assist with branch and event administration, manage schedules and branch calendars, and ensure everything runs smoothly currently being undertaken.
The skills you need
- Be friendly and approachable.
- Confident to engage with the public, potential clients, volunteers and SSAFA colleagues face-to-face.
- Reliable attitude, staying connected with your Branch and/or Community Engagement Manager about your availability.
- Access to public transport or a car to get to events if necessary.
- Basic IT skills would be an advantage.

- Arranging to talk with potential beneficiaries (on the phone or face to face) at a mutually convenient time
- Understanding peoples’ support needs and gathering information to assess their circumstances
- Typing written case reports to apply for financial assistance
- Sign-posting to services providing specialist support, such as mental health or housing support
- Keeping beneficiaries and the SSAFA regional office up to date with progress
