About this role

We are looking for new trustees to join our board to fill vacancies. 

This is an exciting opportunity to get involved with our high impact team. You’ll help the organisation to increase understanding of the challenges facing people in Wales, help to develop effective solutions and keep the charity on course.

The usual term of office of trustees is four years, with the possibility of another four-year term thereafter.

Trustees do not get paid, although reasonable expenses for travel may be claimed.

About you

We are looking for people who are passionate about improving the lives of the people of Wales, and who want to make a difference by generating insights that help to change public policy and practice.

Trustees come from all walks of life – there are no specific qualifications or experiences we require. However, applications from people with fundraising or senior leadership experience, or from people fluent in the Welsh language, would be particularly welcome.

We want our board to reflect the breadth of Wales’ population. We welcome applications from everyone, but would particularly like to hear from younger people, people from diverse ethnic backgrounds, and people in north and west Wales. We’d also welcome applications from people working in front-line roles with people on low-incomes.

Don’t worry if you haven’t had experience of being a trustee or board member before. We will offer you support and training to help you to undertake your role, and in addition we’re aiming to partner with external board training programmes.

Embrace the Middle East is a Christian Development charity (registered No. 1076329), established in 1854, with a mission to improve the lives of vulnerable and disadvantaged people in the Middle East by working in partnership with local Christians, focussing on education, healthcare and community development. Its Board of Trustees (the Board) is responsible for the overall governance, monitoring and strategic direction of the charity. It works with the charity’s management to ensure that the charity fulfils the objects defined in its Articles, acts in accordance with the charity’s vision and mission, and complies will all legal and regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities of trustees are:

To formulate and regularly review the strategic aims of the charity in accordance with its legal objects and to ensure that the policy and practices of the organisation are in keeping with its aims.

1. To monitor the performance of the charity against the agreed strategic aims.
2. To ensure that the organisation functions within the legal and regulatory requirements of a charitable organisation and strives to achieve best practice.

Your London Marathon Volunteering Experience - Cheer with Scope!

Be part of the electric atmosphere at the world’s most iconic marathon on Sunday 26 April 2026. We’re looking for enthusSoak up the fantastic energy and be a part of the world’s most iconic marathon on Sunday 26th April 2026. Join Scope in cheering on and motivating our incredible team of over 110 runners, who are all fundraising to help create an equal future with disabled people.  

About this role 

The streets of London will come alive once again on Sunday 26th April for the London Marathon. We can’t wait to get out there and support our amazing runners! And we hope YOU will join us.

Your role will be to help keep our runners going and make them feel super proud of what an amazing thing they’re doing. Clap, yell, cheer - anything that lends our runners the energy they need to go the distance. We’ll have music, banners and flags! By registering to help, you’ll also get a free Scope t-shirt to help you look the part.

When and where 

Sunday 26th April 2026 

Cheerpoint 1 – Mile 3, Woolwich with the Singing Striders choir: 

• 8.30am to 1pm 
• John Wilson Street (SE18 6QQ), near the intersection of John Wilson Street and Wellington Street

Cheerpoint 2 – Mile 23, Tower Hill: 

• 12pm to 5pm 
• Lower Thames Street (EC3R 5AS), between Pizza Express and All Bar One pub

You can download the free What3Words app from the App Store or Google Play, and these words tell you the precise location of the cheer point.
 
Please note that we will be as close to the above locations as possible. Look out for the big Scope banners and flags on the day! 

It would be fantastic if you’re able to volunteer for the full shift. But if you can’t, then we’d be super appreciative for any time you are able to give – ideally 2 hours minimum. 

Who we’re looking for 

We welcome anyone who is friendly and passionate about disability equality! We're looking for volunteers who are enthusiastic, friendly, and ready to be the loudest and proudest cheerers on the course! ​No experience is necessary. Volunteers must be over 18, or with a responsible adult.

We’d love to welcome disabled people to cheer with us. Equality and inclusion are at the heart of Scope’s mission. We’re deeply committed to creating a diverse and inclusive environment for all volunteers.

• Woolwich is served by the Elizabeth and Thameslink lines and has step-free access 
• Woolwich Dockyard is a National Rail station and has limited step-free access 
• Woolwich Arsenal is served by the DLR (Docklands Light Railway) and Thameslink lines - it is also a National Rail station and has step-free access

• Monument is served by the District and Circle lines and does not have step free access 
• Tower Hill, which is within walking distance, is served by the District and Circle lines and has step-free access
