As a charity we are able to help thousands of cats each year thanks to the generous donations we receive from members of the public. Our fundraising volunteers use their passion for cats and people to raise the vital funds needed to help more cats and kittens in need. As a fundraising volunteer we want to support you to fundraise in whatever way suits you best, whether that’s organising a fundraising event, fundraising online, promoting fundraising activities on social media, completing administration or supporting the development of new fundraising ideas! Whatever your skill set, this could be the role for you!

What we need from you

This is a really flexible role, you can choose what you’d like to get involved with, for example: 

• face-to-face fundraising. Organising or helping with fundraising events, running supermarket collections and fundraising stands, monitoring collection tins 

• online fundraising. Setting up online appeals and writing impactful cat case studies that maximise donations

• marketing. Spreading the word about our fundraising activities, for example on social media and with the local press  

• completing administration. Processing donations, sorting and recording donated goods, completing Gift Aid paperwork

● championing our work. Getting involved with developing new fundraising ideas and increasing community engagement

Time expectation

This is a flexible role that can fit around your other commitments to suit you. You’ll be part of a team raising vital funds while having fun in the process!

Do you want to help people experiencing the housing emergency? 

Information about the role 

You’ll be an essential part of the team, welcoming clients and visitors to the hub. You’ll be providing information and key admin support that enables people to get the help they need with their housing. As well as gathering feedback from clients on their experience of our service.

Location: London Hub, 88 Old Street, London

Suggested contribution: One day per week (can be flexible around your commitments)

Availability: Volunteering will take place at a time that suits you, within Monday-Friday, 9am – 5pm

Main activities may include: 

• Covering reception duties and being the first point of contact for the hub. 

• Booking in clients for appointments with our advisors. 

• Responding to general enquiries both in person and over the phone. 

• Triaging clients both in person and over the phone

• Signposting people to other appropriate services. 

• General administrative tasks (such as photocopying, scanning, data entry, filing) 

• Phoning clients around 8-10 weeks after they accessed our services. 

• Asking clients set questions to gather information on their experiences with Shelter and the difference it has made to them.

• Recording the phone calls and the responses given onto our client database (CRM). 

This role fights the housing emergency by enabling people who are struggling with housing or homelessness to get the advice and support they need.

• Understanding of the housing system

• Speak more than one language we particularly welcome speakers of Arabic, Bengali, French, Urdu. But any additional language can be useful please specify on your application form if you speak more than one language and which language you speak.

Supporting you 

• You will be provided with an induction into your role, access to relevant learning and a copy of our volunteer handbook. 

• The role, including learning and communications, are flexible, so can be tailored so they best suit your needs and preferences.

• You will be able to claim reasonable volunteering expenses in line with Shelter’s volunteer expenses policy. Where financial circumstances would be a barrier to volunteering, we may be able to offer these funds in advance.

• You will be able to access our volunteer support package, including our colleague assistance programme and Shelter’s network of mental health first aiders.

We are now seeking dedicated volunteers to join the Council as Councillors, including several key Secretary roles.

The Role

As a Councillor on the Lyon’s Council, you will support the Prince of Scots in shaping our global clan activities, heritage work, community engagement, and international outreach. This is a remote volunteer role requiring 4–8 hours per month, ideal for someone who values heritage, leadership, and helping shape a unique organisation with deep historical roots.

We are especially interested in filling the following positions:

• Council Secretary of Culture & Heritage

• Council Secretary of Finance

• Council Secretary of External Affairs

• Council Secretary of Community Affairs

• Council Secretary of Education

General Councillor positions are also available for those who wish to contribute more broadly.

Key Responsibilities

Depending on your role, you may:

• Support the Prince of Scots in strategic planning and cultural leadership

• Help shape and deliver global clan activities, heritage projects, and events

• Contribute to policy development, governance, and long‑term planning

• Represent the Society in meetings, discussions, or external communications

• Support community engagement and international outreach

• Assist with educational initiatives, cultural preservation, or financial planning

• Bring fresh ideas to help us grow our global membership and presence

Who We’re Looking For

You do not need Scottish ancestry — only passion, reliability, and a willingness to support our mission. We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds, especially those who are:

• Interested in Scottish culture, clans, or heritage

• Organised, proactive, and collaborative

• Comfortable working remotely

• Experienced in leadership, governance, education, culture, finance, or community work (helpful but not essential)

• Motivated by helping a historic community grow into a global movement

• Support external communications and diplomatic outreach

• Build relationships with cultural groups, societies, and global partners

• Represent the Society in external meetings or correspondence

• Assist with public‑facing communications and announcements

• Help shape our international identity as a global clan community

The Lyonic Scots Clan is seeking a passionate volunteer to serve as Council Secretary of Culture & Heritage on the Lyon’s Council. This role supports our Clan Chief, The Prince of Scots, ‘The Lyon’, in preserving, promoting, and revitalising our cultural identity as we grow into a global clan‑styled community.

What You’ll Do

• Lead cultural and heritage initiatives across the Society

• Support the development of clan traditions, symbolism, and historical projects

• Help curate heritage content, archives, and educational materials
