Your Role as a Mentor

We're setting up a new telephone group which will offer blind and partially sighted people living with DREC the opportunity to socialise with one another each week and we're looking for someone to facilitate the group. The right person will have have personal or professional experience of DREC, will be a good listener who is able to manage group conversations and will have the skills to enable people to feel comfortable in a social group environment.

This is a telephone-based role that you can do from home. You will need access to a landline and/or mobile phone. We ask you to commit to 1-2 hours per week to facilitate one group session, which will take place at the same day and time each week.

You will be the link between the group participants and the RNIB Talk and Support team and will:

• Listen to the group conversation and ensure it flows and that all conversations are appropriate;
• Make appropriate contributions as and when required to stimulate conversation;
• Create a friendly and welcoming atmosphere thus encouraging all participants to feel comfortable taking part;
• Report any Safeguarding concerns or data breaches to the Talk & Support staff team.

Cards for Bravery is a registered charity dedicated to brightening the days and improving the emotional wellbeing of hospitalised and seriously ill children through services such as the distribution of positive handmade cards, care packages, and activity packs.

As part of our charity, we distribute 'Bravery' Packages to seriously ill children. These are care packages full of gifts to help brighten the days of seriously ill children and their families.

As a Bravery Package volunteer, you will assist the charity with coordinating and putting these packages together.

This is a vital role for our organisation and we are looking for reliable applicants. Applicants will work alongside one of our current Bravery Package Volunteers.

This role is hybrid, with remote work online but also requires some volunteering to be completed in person in Braintree, CM7 2NL area. Applicants must be able to travel to this area when needed and travel expenses can be reimbursed if needed. The office is wheelchair accessible. In-person timings can be flexible including weekdays and weekends.

A DBS Check will be required for this role, completed by the charity.

• Support with distributing and posting Bravery Packages

As a team member, we also require you

• Attend at least 3 monthly team meetings a year (out of 6, remote via Google Meets)
• Be part of a unique team and give ideas to help broaden Cards for Bravery
• Regularly communicate and keep in contact with your volunteer coordinator

Volunteering in the shop

Our Edinburgh Marchmont Shop Volunteers are in the middle of it all, and there’s plenty to get involved with. You might be sorting and pricing stock, engaging with customers, ringing items through the till, creating fantastic window displays or keeping our shop floor looking organised.

It’s up to you how much you commit. We have volunteers who support for a couple of hours a week and some do more. Many people volunteer either a morning or an afternoon each week - this is something that will be discussed at the selection stage, after you’ve applied.

Are you a big football fan who enjoys playing football as well as watching it?

We are looking for volunteer football enthusiasts to both play football and enjoy talking all things football with someone with learning disabilities and or autism.  As a volunteer you will need to be able to volunteer for a couple of hours each week.

What does the role involve?

Our football volunteers will enjoy spending time having a kick about, perhaps watching a game on TV and perhaps having a post-match discussion. Trips to watch the odd live game would also be an enjoyable experience for the people we support.

130 Primrose is a charity restaurant in Primrose Hill using hospitality as a vehicle for change- recruiting, training and employing people with lived experience of homelessness.

In just 12 months, we’ve already supported individuals into paid work, qualifications, and long-term employment pathways. Now, we’re entering an exciting growth phase, with ambitions to scale our model to new sites and reach significantly more people. 

We’re seeking a Strategic Finance Trustee to join our board and help guide this next stage- bringing commercial insight, financial clarity, and strategic challenge as we grow.

About the Role

This is a strategic, non-operational trustee position for a senior finance leader who can translate financial insight into clear, practical decision-making.

You’ll work closely with the Chair, CEO, and Board to ensure our model is financially sustainable, scalable, and impactful- supporting both our social mission and our trading activity.

Our model combines earned income (restaurant operations) with social impact, making financial leadership a critical lever for success.

You will contribute to the procurement of construction materials, accommodation furnishings, restaurant supplies, retreat equipment, maintenance items, gift shop stock, and operational resources while helping maintain accurate procurement documentation and supplier information.

Key Responsibilities

• Support procurement activities from sourcing through to purchase.
• Research and identify suitable suppliers and obtain quotations.
• Maintain supplier databases and procurement records.
