Refugee Support Volunteer

Location: Folkestone, Kent (Wednesdays 12:00pm to 4:00pm) or Dartford, Kent (Fridays 10:00am to 1:00pm)
Time commitment: One half-day per week

Preferred commitment: We welcome applications from anyone able to volunteer regularly. While there is no minimum commitment, volunteers who stay for six months or longer often have the greatest impact and consistency for the refugees we support and allows volunteers to gain the most from their experience.

Expenses: Travel and lunch expenses reimbursed in line with our volunteer expenses policy.

Help Refugees Build Confidence and Independence

Do you want to make a meaningful difference in your local community?

The Refugee Council is looking for compassionate and enthusiastic volunteers to support refugees who have recently been resettled in Kent. This is a rewarding opportunity to help people rebuild their lives, develop confidence and become more independent as they settle into their new communities.

You do not need previous experience of working with refugees. We are looking for people who are patient, supportive, reliable and committed to helping others thrive. Full training and ongoing support will be provided.

About the Role

As a Refugee Support Volunteer, you will work alongside our Kent Resettlement Team, helping refugees gain the confidence and skills needed to access services independently and participate fully in community life.

You may support people to:

• Learn how to use digital services and online accounts
• Access NHS, Universal Credit and immigration-related online systems
• Build confidence using email, websites and mobile apps
• Understand appointment booking systems and telephone services
• Discover local activities, services and community groups
• Develop social connections and reduce isolation
• Build confidence communicating directly with services and organisations

This is a person-centred role focused on encouraging independence through coaching and guided support rather than doing things for people.

A second language is welcome but not essential.

Administration Assistant

What You’ll Do

Support the Age UK Enfield team with general admin tasks that help our services run smoothly. You’ll help with email communication, data entry, and other simple office duties.

You will:

· Help respond to and send emails from shared inboxes (with support and supervision)

· Input volunteer, client, or service data into our CRM system (training provided)

· Update spreadsheets, mailing lists or booking systems

· Support with printing, scanning or filing where needed

· Maintain confidentiality and accuracy when handling information

Skills You’ll Use or Develop

· Basic IT and email skills (Outlook, Microsoft Office)

· Attention to detail and a methodical approach

· Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team

· Good written communication

Time Commitment

Flexible – ideally one regular half-day or full day per week
Monday to Friday, between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm

Location: Age UK Enfield office or remote
Reports to: Relevant team lead or manager, depending on the area of support

Our Home-Visiting Service supports families who are experiencing difficulties or suffering stress and who have at least one child under the age of five years.

Our aims are:

To increase the confidence and independence of the family by:

Offering support, friendship and practical assistance

Visiting families in their own homes and in their community, where the dignity and identity of each adult and child can be respected and protected

Reassuring parents that difficulties in bringing up children is not unusual and encouraging them to enjoy family life.

Developing a relationship with the family in which time can be shared and understanding can be developed. This approach is flexible to take account of different needs.

Encouraging parents’ strengths and emotional wellbeing – for the ultimate benefit of their children.

Encouraging families to widen their network of relationships, and to effectively use the support and services available within the community.

We are looking for a volunteer youth worker who will work closely with the WFRC Youth coordinators in the planning and delivery of high-quality youth activities which are fun, safe, social and educational.

You will be helping to provide a safe and supportive environment where young people learn to;

→ discover exciting new ideas and activities they are unlikely to experience anywhere else

Principal Responsibilities

→ Welcoming young people, ensuring everything is running smoothly and supporting young people in engaging with activities provided.

→ Delivering a drop-in / online session for example organising games, positive activities and conversations, taking accountability for security and safe working within the youth sessions

→ Supporting the delivery of creative and partnership projects

→ Having conversations with young people, identifying issues affecting them and how their needs can be met

→ Mentoring, coaching and supporting individuals, encouraging young people to develop their self-awareness, independence and individuality

→ Identifying where targeted youth support is needed and facilitate referrals and connections

→ Helping ensure that all evidence of projects are properly documented, and that work is evaluated and reported in accordance with contractual commitments

→ Keeping registers, writing evaluation reports and inputting data into our management information system

→ Taking part in outreach activities, both independently and in partnership with other services

→ Developing and building strong community relationships with external stakeholders i.e schools and colleges, and developing relationships with youth networks in Wolverhampton

→ Staying informed on legislation, local and national issues, and best practice in youth work

→ Ensuring child protection procedures are followed and that the safeguarding of young people is paramount

→ Carry out all duties in accordance with WFRC’s policies on Health and Safety, Child Protection and Data Protection, and with relevant legislation

→ Act as a role model for young people, inspiring them to engage in the services and understand and appreciate the role of youth work as a career opportunity

→ Any other duties appropriate to the post as directed by WFRC

You are

→ Friendly, cheerful, positive and self-driven, able to work independently and as part of a team

Education, qualifications or experience

→ Level 2 JNC or relevant youth work experience

→ Experience of working with children and/or young people in an online/ offline environment

→ Experience of organising small scale events or coordinating projects is desirable

Knowledge, skills and abilities

→ Excellent communication skills, with the ability to quickly establish positive relationships with young people and motivate them to participate in activities and events

→ Good organisational and administration skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office

→ Understanding and appreciation of the importance of monitoring and evaluation in a youth work setting

→ Politically and creatively aware and ‘plugged in’ to emerging youth subculture

→ Positive about embracing challenge and change, open to experimenting, new ideas, reflective practice and working with other organisations in a spirit of partnership

What You’ll Do

Support a small group of older people aged 65+ to become more active and improve their wellbeing. You'll facilitate discussions, encourage participation, and help the group work towards shared goals during a 12-week programme.

You will:

· Support a group of up to 6 participants

· Help the group identify a shared wellbeing or physical activity goal

· Facilitate weekly group sessions

· Encourage participation and positive peer support

The Role

As a Flyer Distributor you will play a crucial role in helping to raise awareness about our services and events within the Enfield community. You will be responsible for disseminating promotional materials such as flyers, brochures, and event announcements to various locations within the Enfield area.

• Distribute promotional materials provided by Age UK Enfield to designated locations across the Enfield area. This may include community centers, libraries, local businesses, healthcare facilities, and other relevant locations.
• Engage with members of the public in a friendly and courteous manner while distributing flyers. Answer any questions they may have about Age UK Enfield's services and provide basic information about upcoming events or initiatives.
• Keep accurate records of the locations visited and the quantity of promotional materials distributed. Report back to the supervisor on to provide updates on distribution progress.
• Act as an ambassador for Age UK Enfield by promoting the organisation's mission, values, and services to the community. Help to increase brand recognition and visibility within the local area.

General Key Skills:

• Ability to work independently without constant supervision.
• Comfortable with walking and standing for long periods in various weather conditions.
• Maintaining professionalism and addressing public inquiries effectively.
• Reliable attendance and punctuality, with a strong sense of responsibility.

Time Commitment

2-4 hours Between 10 am - 2 pm (there are other volunteer opportunities available)

Requirements

A DBS Enhanced check will be required. Training to be provided around safeguarding.
