Equal Aqua is an award-winning NGO working to tackle inequalities in water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) across Uganda. What You'll Be Doing

Strategic Leadership

✅ Lead the implementation of Equal Aqua's fundraising strategy, ensuring alignment with organisational goals, vision and values.

Fundraising & Income Generation

✅ Drive income generation through multiple fundraising channels, including:

• Grant and trust applications

✅ Support the development of annual fundraising targets and budgets.

✅ Monitor fundraising performance and help maximise income opportunities.

Donor & Supporter Engagement

✅ Manage and grow relationships with existing supporters and donors.

✅ Deliver exceptional supporter stewardship and donor care.

✅ Increase donor retention and maximise long-term supporter value.

Team Leadership

✅ Lead and motivate an international team of fundraising volunteers.

Governance & Reporting

✅ Report regularly to the Executive Committee and Board of Trustees.

Across the UK, our local branches help disabled people live the lives they choose. Every year, our skilled volunteers respond to thousands of requests, designing and creating bespoke equipment free of charge.

As a Branch Organiser, you’ll play a key role in helping to make sure your local branch runs smoothly and effectively. You’ll recruit, welcome, and support volunteers, ensuring the team’s work meets the needs of disabled people in your area. What the role involves

This is a varied role where local needs shape what you’ll be working on, but it often includes:

• Coordinating the activities of our local branch to undertake and meet the needs of referrals in your area

Position Description 
This is an exciting time to join the Heart of the City trustee board. You will join a small but ambitious Charity with strong foundations and networks across the public and private sector. This is an opportunity to shape the next chapter for the Heart of the City, with a strong focus on developing a robust, sustainable three-year Strategy. The Strategy will be supported by work to further diversify funding streams, that provide greater financial resilience without compromising our mission to support SMEs to become responsible businesses and play a full role in responding to the Climate Emergency.

The incoming Chair will support the team to develop a three-year Strategy to support the growth of the Charity.

The plan will explore:

• The Mission of the Charity and how it should grow
• Diversifying and securing new sources of funding
• Broadening our programmatic offer to SMEs
• Defining the strategic relationship between Heart of the City and the City of London Corporation

Unlike most small charities, Heart of the City has an extensive network and governance structures with prestigious organisations. The Chair will help manage key relationships with the Bank of England and Corporation of London, as well as key Council Members. The Chair will be instrumental in managing an effective and focussed set of Trustees to help shape, scrutinise and deliver the Charity’s mission.

By the end of the three-year period as Chair, you will have supported the development and implementation of a Strategy, which meets the vision of the Charity, helped develop a sustainable and resilient funding model, ensured that the Charity is making an impact and reporting on its achievements and maintains effective relationships with key strategic partners.

Typically, the Chair will:

• Hold regular fortnightly meetings with the Managing Director.
• Attend quarterly Trustee Board meetings (usually lasting around two hours and held during the working day).
• Participate in a strategy half-day with Trustees and staff.
• Attend Council meetings (up to two per year).
• Support introductions to potential members, partners and stakeholders.
• Attend and occasionally speak at Heart of the City events on an ad hoc basis.

The Chair will contribute to ad-hoc requests including:

• Sharing their views on responsible business in interviews for our newsletter, social media or webinars
• Championing our work at other external events and meetings, on social media and on their own biographical profiles

About you
We do not expect one person to fulfil all specifications but would welcome applications from individuals who are able to demonstrate most of the following:

Childcare Volunteer – Make a Lasting Difference in Ghana

About the role

As a Childcare Volunteer, you will work alongside experienced local staff in a childcare centre, supporting children's learning, development and wellbeing. No two days are the same. You will build relationships with the children, assist with educational and recreational activities and help create a fun, safe and engaging environment where children can flourish.

What you'll be doing

You will:

• Help supervise indoor and outdoor play.
• Encourage children's confidence, creativity and social development.

The Position

We are looking for a Grants Officer who can support us with diverse tasks that include looking for grants opportunities, project development, proposals writing, and liaising with potential partners and donors. In this role you’ll be a key contributor to the continued existence of Second Tree, which is dependent on grants to survive, and to the creation of new projects and partnerships. To do this successfully, you'll need to employ meticulous time-management and organisation skills, as juggling multiple tasks with competing deadlines is common in this role.

The role will include:

• Researching and identifying new grant opportunities on a weekly basis

• Summarising relevant grant opportunities and suggesting how to best respond and comply with them

• Researching information and data necessary for grants and grant reporting

• Supporting the design of new projects

• Supporting with proposal writing

• Maintaining necessary records, files, reports, databases, and resource materials for the Grants team

• Working with the wider Second Tree team to ensure that all project proposals align with organisational, and programme strategies

• Establishing and maintaining connections with funding bodies

You should be able to:

• Professionally communicate in English (verbally and in writing)

• Read, comprehend, interpret, summarise and follow proposal guidelines

• Work to tight deadlines with flexibility and a problem-solving attitude;

• Conduct thorough, high-quality, independent research

• Work both independently and as part of a team

• Manage and prioritise projects effectively to meet team and proposal deadlines

The ideal candidate will have:

• Working knowledge of project management techniques such as LFA

• Knowledge of and experience with grant-giving bodies and other external funding sources (e.g. European Commission)

Your Typical Day in the Classroom

This role is active, vibrant, and highly collaborative. You won’t just be sitting at a desk; you will be an active spark in the school community:

• The Co-Pilot: Work hand-in-hand with local headteachers to make core subjects like English conversation, basic Mathematics, and General Sciences come alive through interactive games and discussions.

• The Creative Spark: Bring your own hobbies across the globe! Whether you love drawing, music, painting, or sports, you will design and lead engaging workshops that build child confidence and creativity.

• The Mentor: Provide crucial, patient one-on-one reading and arithmetic support to bright children who have fallen behind and just need someone to believe in them.

On the weekends, you will have the opportunity to join coordinated group excursions to explore Ghana's rich history and breathtaking landscapes. Depending on your placement region, weekend tours can include:

• Walking the canopy bridges at Kakum National Park.

• Exploring the historic Cape Coast and Elmina Castles.

• Visiting the vibrant cultural markets of Kumasi.

• Relaxing on the beautiful beaches of the coastal region.

Program Flexibility & Hours

• Flexible Start Dates: This is an all-year-round opportunity. Volunteers and interns select their own arrival and departure dates to align with their personal, professional, or academic schedules.

• Customizable Schedules: You have the flexibility to determine your daily school/center shift lengths and the total number of hours you wish to commit each day, leaving plenty of time to enjoy the local culture.

Core Purpose: To provide professional, high-level outdoor leadership and safety management on the ground during UK day challenges (such as the UK 3 Peaks) and international expeditions. While you are not expected to be a primary marketer, you act as a vital brand ambassador on the hill—ensuring a safe, inspiring, and successful event for our charity fundraisers.

Key Responsibilities

• On-the-Ground Safety Management: Support with the safety, navigation, and physical well-being of participants during UK day challenges and overseas trips alongside our in country adventure providers.
• Dynamic Risk Assessment: Monitor weather, terrain, and group fitness in real-time, making decisive adjustments to the itinerary to mitigate risk.
• Participant Support & Motivation: Provide high-quality stewardship, coaching, and psychological encouragement to help charity fundraisers safely achieve their physical goals.
• Emergency Response: Administer first aid if needed and coordinate with local emergency services in the event of an incident.
• Brand Advocacy: Enthusiastically speak about the charity’s mission and future trip portfolio during the event, inspiring participants to stay connected with the cause.

Compensation & Perks

• Full Expenses Covered: All reasonable travel, accommodation, food, and permits required to execute the trip are fully paid for by the organisation.

Required Qualifications & Experience

• UK Mountain Training Qualifications: Minimum of Mountain Leader (Summer) award for UK hill walking challenges. Higher awards (e.g., Winter ML, Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor) are highly valued.
• Medical Certification: Valid, up-to-date First Aid certificate
• Experience: Proven track record of leading groups with experience managing varying fitness levels.
• Insurance: Up-to-date professional indemnity and public liability insurance (though you will also be covered under the organisation’s policy)
