As a County Lead of Kidlington, Oxfordshire, you will be part of the establishment of a County St John Council to oversee and guide volunteer Community Networks, aims to create a structured and supportive framework that empowers volunteers to operate more effectively and efficiently. We are seeking two new Trustees with experience of senior organisational leadership ideally within the UK charity sector, with oversight of operations, finance, HR, and strategic development to join our Board of Trustees. This is  an exciting time in our development, when these functions are becoming more critical for us, as Board personnel changes. We are keen to appoint talented individuals who are as passionate as we are about public education, popularising critical thought, and addressing urgent questions of race and inequality in culture and society. Most importantly we need people who are willing to share their business, financial and operational skills and expertise with our Board and senior staff.

Inspired by the life and work of the eminent scholar and intellectual Professor Stuart Hall, the Stuart Hall Foundation (SHF) was launched in 2015 by his family, friends and colleagues to continue his life’s work and build on his unique and distinct legacy by attending to the urgent political, social, and cultural questions of our time. Our mission is to popularise critical thought by supporting the creative and intellectual development of a new generation of artists, academics and activists who are dedicated to challenging issues of inequality through their work. We pursue this mission by equipping underrepresented practitioners with the learning resources and research opportunities necessary to shape and expand public debates on politics, history and culture. We fulfil our mission by:

• Creating opportunities - offering artist residencies, commissions, scholarships, fellowships, and other opportunities to underrepresented people from a variety of backgrounds, disciplines, and geographic locations.
• Convening Spaces - creating digital and physical spaces for the public, our network of artists, researchers, activists and other stakeholders to exchange and generate ideas together.
• Developing Digital Resources - creating free-to-access digital learning resources that encourage critical thinking and interdisciplinary approaches to address contemporary political and cultural issues (across arts, academia and cultural activism).

Duties:

1. Ensure that the organisation functions within the UK Charity Sector’s legal and regulatory framework and in line with governing documents, continually striving for best practice in governance, act in the best interests of the organisation and its beneficiaries at all times.
2.   Ensure the financial stability of the organisation; oversee the management of the organisation’s resources, ensuring income and expenditure are in line with budgets and meet accepted standards and policies.
3. Contribute to the overall direction and development of the organisation through strategic planning and fundraising.
4. Enthusiastically participate in the governance, management and administration by reading all relevant papers and reports in advance and contributing constructively to debate and discussion and maintaining confidentiality. 
5. Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of Stuart Hall Foundation’s strategic and operational progress and keep abreast of external developments within the arts and the  political and business world to ensure decision-making is well-informed.
6. Represent the organisation at functions, events and meetings as required, acting as spokesperson where appropriate, thereby demonstrating commitment to the ethos of Stuart Hall Foundation.
7. Demonstrate understanding of, and commitment to, equality, diversity and inclusion.
8. Any other duties commensurate with the role.

Person Specification

Essential:

1.  Enthusiasm for Professor Stuart Hall’s legacy and commitment to the Foundation’s mission and aims.
2. Senior organisational leadership experience with the ability to apply strategic judgement to complex organisational, financial and people-related issues at Board level.
3. Understanding the political context and operating environment of the charity sector and demonstrate the ability to think strategically and entrepreneurially within it.
4.  Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including excellent listening skills and the ability to communicate with diplomacy, tact and sensitivity.

6. Experience of supporting organisational growth, change or transition, with the ability to bring insight from managing complexity, scale or external pressures within the charity sector.
7. Ability to provide constructive collaborator to senior leaders while maintaining appropriate non-executive boundaries and collective responsibility.
8. Sound judgement and independence of thought, with the confidence to ask effective questions, assess risk, and contribute to balanced, well-reasoned Board decisions.

10. Available for the time commitment required: 4 Board meetings per annum and other duties equivalent to 1 day per every month.

Charity Champion (volunteer) 

As a Volunteer Charity Champion, you will have the opportunity to support the North West Ambulance Charity team achieve their mission in a variety of different ways to suit you. The NWAS charity are looking for motivated, enthusiastic and passionate volunteers wanting to work flexibly and help contribute to the growth of the charity. You will play a key part in a variety of tasks that may include supporting fundraising events, awareness days, collections and community engagement.

Why we want you

The North West Ambulance Charity provides support to the North West Ambulance Service above and beyond what NHS funding can provide. The NWAS Charity is solely reliant upon generous donations and fundraising from the public, businesses, grant funders, staff and volunteers to fund life-saving equipment and other projects to benefit the health, wellbeing and safety of patients, staff, and our communities.

We won’t ask you to do anything you’re uncomfortable with. You may only wish to be involved in volunteering at charity events for example, but you might not be comfortable with bucket collecting. As a Charity Champion you will have the opportunity to choose the area of support you prefer.

What you will be doing

• Supporting the Charity with its fundraising and engagement events for example at bucket collections, cheering on runners in challenge events or helping on a stall at a summer fair.
• Representing the Charity positively through giving talks, presentations or cheque presentations.
• Identifying locations to take collection tins and assist with the collection of full boxes.
• Raising the charities profile in your own community through delivering posters and flyers.
• Encouraging others to get involved-inspiring colleagues, friends and family to support the charity.

As a community engagement volunteer you and your fellow branch members will create a range of activities to help spread the word about SSAFA within your community to ensure that that our Armed Forces community know that SSAFA are here to help and that we need the public’s support to continue offering our services.

This role is diverse and allows for you to focus on the areas that you have skills or interests in. The role has flexibility and can work around your other commitments.

• Fundraising Heroes - Whether it’s rallying local businesses, organising events, or getting creative with unique fundraising ideas, you’ll play a crucial role in keeping SSAFA’s support going strong.
• Administrators - Are you detail-oriented and love keeping things organised? Assist with branch and event administration, manage schedules and branch calendars, and ensure everything runs smoothly currently being undertaken.

The skills you need

• Confident to engage with the public, potential clients, volunteers and SSAFA colleagues face-to-face.
• Reliable attitude, staying connected with your Branch and/or Community Engagement Manager about your availability.
• Access to public transport or a car to get to events if necessary.
• Basic IT skills would be an advantage.

The Learning without Limits Academy Trust is looking for ambitious, committed, and motivated volunteers, who share our values and passion for inspiring education, to become a governor, joining the Local Governing Body at one of its five academies.

The Role

The LGB and Board of Trustees as a whole are collectively responsible for the success of the academy. The LGB’s:

• provide support and challenge with regard to the strategic approach which drives the operation of the academy in terms of learning, standards, safety and wellbeing.
• act as a critical friend to the Principal and to advise the Trust Board about local issues they need to consider that affect the academy
• represent the interests of the academy community in the running of the academy and to represent the academy in its community.
• engage with pupils, staff, parents and the wider academy community to understand their views

in their role, Governors:

• attend four LGB meetings each year.
• get to know the school, including visiting the school occasionally during school hours.
• attend regular relevant training and development events.

Volunteering as a Governor provides the opportunity to make a significant and positive impact on the lives of young people in their community. Governors also have the opportunity to gain valuable new skills, build on existing skills and receive free training and support through a variety of training opportunities. It may open up opportunities for personal professional development.

Trustee Position 

Exeter Students’ Guild is looking for a passionate and experienced External Trustee to join our Board and help shape the future of our student-led organisation.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Trustees play a key part in making sure the Students’ Guild runs well and stays true to its purpose. As a Trustee, you’ll help set the Guild’s direction, support and challenge senior staff, and make sure we’re using our resources responsibly and operating within the law.

You’ll be joining a Board of 14 Trustees, made up of External Trustees, Student Trustees, and Elected Officer Trustees, all working together to support students at Exeter.

The role is a four-year term, with the option to serve a second term. You’ll need to meet The Charity Commission eligibility requirements. The role is unpaid, but reasonable expenses will be covered.

We’re especially keen to hear from people who have:

• Senior-level experience in finance, accounting, or a related area
• An understanding of the challenges facing students in the UK and at the University of Exeter
• A good grasp of what good governance looks like
• Knowledge of the Higher Education sector and the issues it faces
• The time to commit to Board meetings, committee work, and key financial discussions

What inspired you to become a trustee?

I was inspired to become a trustee to be able to use my experience and knowledge, both as a higher education professional and a former student (from a while ago!), to be part of something that benefits students and adds to their brilliant university experience. I also wanted to experience governance from 'the other side' and improve those skills.

How has the experience benefited you personally or professionally?

It has been really gratifying to be able to use what I do everyday and have it aid discussion. I've found it so interesting and refreshing to approach familiar topics from a completely different angle.

What advice would you give to someone considering becoming a trustee?

I would say to put yourself forward! Speak to someone who may have experience of being a trustee, have a look at the brilliant resources there are out there, and have confidence in your experience - a Board really needs a wide range of skills and experience and diversity of opinion, so go for it.
