Role Overview
250 million children under 5 years old across the Global South miss out on the care, play and stimulation they need during the most important years of their lives. Governments increasingly recognise the importance of early childhood development, but many struggle to find approaches that are affordable, scalable, and sustainable.
Lively Minds believes the solution is hiding in plain sight: parents.
For almost twenty years we have worked alongside governments and communities to develop and test a parent-powered approach that enables families, regardless of their income or level of education, to give children the best possible start in life. We have shown that this approach can be successfully integrated into government systems and delivered at scale. In Ghana alone, our model has been adopted nationally, reaching more than 700,000 children and supporting over 130,000 parents. Independent research found participating children made developmental gains equivalent to an additional year of schooling.
Having demonstrated what is possible, we are now entering an exciting new phase.
Rather than operating as a traditional programme delivery organization, Lively Minds has evolved into a specialist technical assistance partner. We work alongside governments to design, test, and scale parent-powered early childhood development within national education systems, building the capability, evidence, and implementation approaches that enable governments to lead sustainable, long-term change.
Today we support governments in Ghana, Uganda, Ethiopia, and the Gambia, with partnerships in development in Togo and Senegal. Our ambition is to help many more governments transform early childhood development over the coming decade.
This is an opportunity to help shape not only the future of Lively Minds but also how governments across the Global South deliver early childhood development for generations to come.
We are looking for a finance trustee who shares that ambition and can help ensure we have the financial stewardship, strategic judgment, and governance needed to achieve it.
The Opportunity
This is not a traditional finance trustee role
Lively Minds is at an important strategic inflection point. As we expand our technical assistance model across multiple countries, we are asking new questions about organisational sustainability, financial resilience, growth, risk, and investment. We are looking for someone who enjoys helping ambitious organisations navigate those questions.
As finance trustee, you will bring independent judgment, financial expertise, and constructive challenge to the Board. You will help ensure we remain financially strong while enabling the organisation to pursue ambitious goals responsibly.
Working closely with the chair, CEO, COO, and finance director and chairing the finance & audit committee, you will help the board make confident, well-informed decisions about the organisation's future.
You will join a board that believes its role is to help the organisation realise its potential. That means asking difficult questions, opening doors, sharing expertise, encouraging innovation and supporting the executive team to succeed, while respecting the principle that the Board governs and management manages.
Key Responsibilities
As Finance Trustee you will help the Board to
Provide financial stewardship
Strengthen strategic decision-making
Support organisational capability
Contribute as a Trustee
Like all trustees, you will contribute to the overall leadership and governance of Lively Minds, participating fully in board discussions on strategy, organisational performance, risk, people, and governance. We also expect trustees to champion the organisation actively, using their networks, credibility, and relationships to open doors, support fundraising, strengthen partnerships, and increase Lively Minds' visibility in the spaces where it matters most. The Board governs rigorously and champions energetically; we are looking for trustees who are ready to do both.

Tower Hamlets Community Leader - VOLUNTEER ROLE
Lead SUNSHINE’s mission to bring radical positivity and human connection to lonely residents across the borough
London is one of the most electric, fast-paced cities on Earth. Yet beneath the energy, a quiet crisis is unfolding.
In boroughs like Tower Hamlets, nearly 40% of adults report feeling chronically lonely or isolated. For many adults, urban isolation is a heavy, daily reality.
SUNSHINE exists to change that — boldly, joyfully, and unapologetically. We bring positivity, warmth, and human connection into the lives of people who need it most.
And now, we’re looking for a Tower Hamlets Community Leader to spearhead our borough-wide programmes, activities, and volunteer mobilisation.
This is your chance to lead a movement that helps isolated residents step out of loneliness and into community, colour, and connection.
What You’ll Lead
1. Champion SUNSHINE in Tower Hamlets
You will be the driving force behind all local activities, programmes, and community engagement that bring SUNSHINE into people’s lives.
2. Build Human Connection
Design, coordinate, and deliver positive, uplifting community activities — from social meetups to creative workshops — that help lonely residents feel seen, valued, and supported.
3. Grow a Local Volunteer Team
Recruit, inspire, and organise a small team of volunteers who will help run SUNSHINE Programmes across the borough.
4. Be the Community Voice
Engage with residents, local groups, community centres, and partner organisations to raise awareness of loneliness, reduce stigma, and invite people into our warm, welcoming spaces.
5. Bring the Borough to Life
Capture stories, moments, and impact from your activities and work with our marketing volunteers to showcase Tower Hamlets as a beacon of positivity.
Who We Need
1. A Positive Human
Someone who radiates warmth, optimism, and genuine care for people who feel alone.
2. A Community Builder
You love bringing people together, creating safe spaces, and helping others feel comfortable enough to show up.
3. An Organised Leader
You can coordinate volunteers, manage small projects, and keep activities running smoothly.
4. A Connector
You enjoy meeting new people, forming partnerships, and championing a cause that matters.
5. Empathetic & Purpose-Driven
You believe loneliness is not a personal failure — it’s a social issue. And you want to be part of the solution.
Why Lead With SUNSHINE?
1. Shape a Borough-Wide Movement
You will build the entire Tower Hamlets community programme from the ground up — a powerful leadership achievement for your CV or portfolio.
2. Creative Freedom
No corporate red tape. You can design joyful, bold, human-centred activities that disrupt the traditional charity landscape.
3. Real Human Impact
You will directly witness isolated individuals stepping out of their rooms and into community because you created a space for them.
4. Supportive Founding Team
You’ll be backed by our Founder and a growing volunteer crew who believe deeply in this mission.
5. Pure Joy
Floating bubbles, warm smiles, shared laughter, and moments of connection — you’ll help create them all.
Ready to Bring SUNSHINE to Tower Hamlets?
If you want to lead a borough-wide positivity movement and help lonely residents feel connected again, we’d love to meet you.
Let’s make something beautiful together.

Each year, we provide vital services that protect vulnerable children, strengthen families, and help young people thrive – from homelessness support and youth employability programmes to fostering, residential care, early years provision and specialist services for disabled children. Guided by our mission to ensure every child has a safe and happy childhood, we deliver life-changing support through 342 services nationwide, reaching more than 551,000 children, young people and families last year.
Our impact is built on a dedicated workforce and a strong culture of compassion, inclusion and advocacy. We step in when times are tough – offering protection, practical help and emotional support – while working tirelessly to create the long-term change needed so that those out of reach today are within reach tomorrow. Diversity and anti-racism sit at the heart of our work, and we are committed to ensuring our Board reflects the communities and families we serve.
We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our Board as a Trustee – someone with the skills and experience to be the Chair of our Audit and Risk Committee.
We seek an individual who embodies our values and demonstrates integrity whilst at the same time providing strategic challenge, championing diversity and inclusion, and showing empathy for the pressures faced by vulnerable children and families. This is a voluntary role with reasonable expenses reimbursed. The term of office is three years, renewable for up to two further terms.
This is an outstanding opportunity to contribute your expertise to one of the UK’s most respected children’s charities, joining a committed and values-led Board dedicated to transforming childhoods and improving life chances for those who need us most.
Applications should be received by Friday 14 August.
Our vision is that every child and young person has a safe and happy childhood, and the foundations they need to thrive.
