Hours: We are looking for committed volunteers to help in our shops.  Shop volunteers need to be fit and work to a rota; usually one morning or afternoon each week, but we can be flexible. We are particularly looking for volunteers in the following shops:

Greenway Owned (Chesham) NEW SHOP OPENED! Flexible shifts available, initially Thursdays, Fridays & Saturdays, from February to also be opening Monday to Wednesday 

Amersham Owned- Monday afternoons, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Friday mornings, Weekends

Berkhamsted Owned - Tuesdays, Wednesday afternoons (Sorter), Saturday afternoons

Abbots Langley Owned - Friday afternoons

Highfield Owned (Hemel Hempstead) - Monday afternoons, Friday afternoons, Saturdays

Kings Langley Owned - Monday mornings, Saturday afternoons (ideally Steamer). DofE - Wednesday after school, Saturday mornings

Returned to Glory (Berkhamsted) - Mondays mornings and Weekends (ideally willing and able to help move furniture)

Marshalswick Owned (St Albans) - Steamers and Sorters for most days and Sundays also Stock Processor/Till Operator

All our shops are in the heart of the community.  If you are looking for a fun role, to learn new skills and to work within a fantastic team then shops have the volunteer roles for you!

Tasks are incredibly varied but all require a commitment to the Hospice values.  The main roles with training given, are:

Till Operator - serving customers on the till, customer facing

Steamer - Steaming clothes ready for sale

Sorter - Sorting donations in preparation to sell

Stock Processor - Hanging, tagging clothes, washing bric-a-brac, filling shop shelves

What is an Inventory volunteer?

The RAF Museum has many items in its collection which are not currently on display. Our inventory volunteers will ensure that we have an up-to-date record of all the items in our reserve collection, their purpose and condition, to help us prepare to move from our current store outside Stafford to a new storage facility in Cosford. This is a weekday only opportunity.

This role sits within the RAF Museum’s Midlands Development Programme which will transform our museum and our impact on the local community through a series of phased projects – engaging audiences who may not obviously identify with the RAF story by finding common interests and histories which link them. As part of this project, we are planning a new learning centre, outdoor spaces, collections hub and major exhibition.

What will I be doing?

The Inventory Volunteer role could encompass various tasks, which might include:

· Assessing objects’ condition

· Measuring and weighing items

· Undertaking cleaning as required

· Object photography

This role is perfect for you if you…

· Are curious and eager to learn

· Pay attention to detail

· Have a light and careful touch

· Are happy working as part of a team

· Are organised and able to keep accurate records

How much time would I need to commit?

Join FARA, a charity with over 30 years of experience and 39 charity shops across London. Our FARA Chiswick Kids shop is looking for a friendly and enthusiastic Customer Service and Till Volunteer to help create a welcoming and positive experience for all our customers.

By volunteering with us, you’ll directly support our mission, help promote reuse through donation and recycling, and contribute to a positive experience for our customers and online community.

The Role: 

As a volunteer, your responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):

• Assisting with stock placement and replenishment on the shop floor

What’s in it for You?

Your Time:

Our shop operates from 09:30 to 17:30, and we’re looking for someone who can volunteer for a minimum of 4 hours either in the morning or afternoon, whenever you are available in arrangement with the shop manager.

Helping in our shops is a great way to help CHAS and, as well as helping us raise money to fund our vital services, you'll be part of a really great team of volunteers. It's always great to see our volunteers chatting to customers and telling them about CHAS - and there's so much more to this role too: you could be sorting donations, getting stock ready for the shop floor, wielding a steamer or a duster, processing Gift Aid, operating the till (we will show you how), merchandising and displaying stock - you'll never have a dull moment.

It would be ideal if you could volunteer one shift each week, which is about four hours (but we're also happy to chat about more flexible times). No special skills are needed as we’ll show you what to do and we provide all the training you’ll need. But if you have any experience or particular interest please tell us, it may come in useful. • marketing. Spreading the word about our fundraising activities, for example on social media and with the local press  

• completing administration. Processing donations, sorting and recording donated goods, completing Gift Aid paperwork

● photography. Capturing images of cats in care, cats we are helping, events and all things Cats Protection

About the Role

Do you enjoy fixing things and taking on practical maintenance tasks? We are looking for a reliable and hands-on volunteer to support the upkeep of our charity shops.

This role focuses on maintenance and repairs, helping ensure our shops are safe, functional, and fit for purpose. Your support will reduce external maintenance costs and allow more funds to go directly towards helping animals in need.

Key Responsibilities

As a Shop Maintenance & Handyman Volunteer, your focus will be on practical repair and upkeep tasks, including:

• Carrying out general repairs and maintenance across our charity shops
• Fixing fixtures and fittings such as shelving, rails, doors, locks, and furniture
• Assembling or repairing donated items suitable for resale
• Painting, decorating, and maintaining shop interiors
• Identifying maintenance issues and proactively addressing them where possible
• Reporting any larger or specialist repairs that require external support
• Supporting with small improvement or refurbishment projects

Additional (desirable) support:

• Assisting with moving stock or equipment between locations
• Helping with collections or deliveries if you hold a driving licence

What We’re Looking For

• Someone practical and confident in carrying out DIY and maintenance tasks

• Experience in general maintenance, repairs, or a trade (informal experience is welcome)

• A proactive, problem-solving approach

• Ability to work independently and manage tasks effectively

• Willingness to follow health and safety guidance

• A positive attitude and commitment to supporting the charity

• Desirable (but not essential):

• A full, clean driving licence

• Confidence driving a van or willingness to assist with transporting stock

• Ability to support with lifting and moving items (with appropriate training)

Time Commitment

We are flexible and can work around your availability, but we are ideally looking for someone who can offer regular support (e.g. a few hours per week or month).

We are looking for passionate Animal Advocates to join our Events Team and help raise vital funds for animals in need in their local community. This role is ideal for someone who loves animals, enjoys connecting with people in their community, and wants to make a meaningful difference.

Animal Advocates organise and host small fundraising stalls within their local area, helping to raise awareness and funds to support animals who need our help.

Key Responsibilities

As an Animal Advocate, you will:

• Identify opportunities to hold a fundraising stall in your community at least once a month (for example at markets, fairs, community events or outside local businesses).
• Research and approach local businesses who may wish to donate items that can be sold to raise funds to support our work.
• Encourage people in your community to donate good-quality second-hand items that can be sold on the stall.
• Set up and run fundraising stalls to engage with the public and promote the charity’s work.
• Help raise awareness about the animals we support and the difference donations make.
• Be a vital part of our Events Team.
