Our fundraising event helpers have the exciting and varied role of helping at local fundraising events - such as cakes sales, barn dances, quiz nights – and everything in between!

Time expectation

Please note you need to be over 18 for this role.

What we need from you

This is a really flexible role – you can choose what you’d like to get involved with, for example:

• face-to-face fundraising. Organising or helping with fundraising events, running supermarket collections and fundraising stands, monitoring collection tins 
• online fundraising. Setting up online appeals and writing impactful cat case studies that maximise donations
• marketing. Spreading the word about our fundraising activities, for example on social media and with the local press
• completing administration. Processing donations, sorting and recording donated goods, completing Gift Aid paperwork
• championing our work. Getting involved with developing new fundraising ideas and increasing community engagement
• photography. Capturing images of cats in care, cats we are helping, events and all things Cats Protection
• You’ll need to be aged 18+ to volunteer in this role. If you’re aged 16-17, you’ll need to be supervised by a friend, family member, or guardian over the age of 18 in order to carry out any fundraising activity.

Time expectation

This is a flexible role that can fit around your other commitments to suit you. You’ll be part of a team raising vital funds while having fun in the process!

Our fundraising team leaders have the exciting and varied role of inspiring our fundraising volunteers to plan and deliver local fundraising events. Using their passion and imagination, they oversee a small team of fundraising volunteers who come together to raise the vital funds needed to cover costs such as veterinary bills and food. Our fundraising team leaders support their team of volunteers in all aspects of their roles, making sure our volunteers are happy, confident and supported.

Time expectation

Our fundraising team leaders usually spend three to four hours per week in this role, which is flexible and can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed.

Do you have a passion for African and Diaspora history and a vision for empowering communities through knowledge?

Tell My Truth and Shame the Devil C.I.C. is seeking a Volunteer African & Diaspora Book Club Coordinator to join our founding volunteer team. This role focuses on creating a welcoming learning space where community members can explore African and Diaspora history, literature and ideas together.

As Book Club Coordinator, you will organise and facilitate a book club programme that encourages reflection, discussion and shared learning. Working with the Membership Director and Community Engagement team, you will help create meaningful conversations that build knowledge, cultural pride and collective understanding.

This role blends facilitation, coordination and community engagement to support a learning space rooted in respect, curiosity and cultural awareness.

Experience, Qualifications and Requirements

Essential / Highly Valued Experience

• Knowledge or strong interest in African and Diaspora history, literature, and cultural movements

• Experience facilitating discussions, learning groups, or community programmes

• Strong communication and group facilitation skills

• Ability to create inclusive spaces for respectful and meaningful discussion

• Confidence guiding conversations about history, identity, power and social change

• Good organisational skills for planning sessions and coordinating participants

• Commitment to community learning and cultural awareness

• Reliability and a collaborative approach to working with others

Desirable

• Experience using digital tools for online meetings, shared documents, or community platforms
   

Qualifications

Formal qualifications in history, education, cultural studies or related fields are welcome but not required. Relevant experience, community knowledge, or lived experience are equally valued.

• Select books and reading materials focused on African and Diaspora history and culture.

• Plan and facilitate regular book club discussions online or in person.

• Encourage thoughtful and respectful conversations about the readings.

• Support participants to reflect on historical and contemporary themes.

• Share discussion materials and resources with participants.

• Capture key insights and feedback to help improve future sessions.

Great opportunities in Wells, Shepton Mallet, Yeovil, Frome, Street and Glastonbury for you to be active in your local Community by joining St John Ambulance to help with fundraising, giving talks and demonstrations of basic first aid or supporting existing volunteers.

The role is very flexible with just a minimum requirement of 24 hours per year. Training will be given and uniform provided to you.

On the first Monday of each month we hold Network update meetings which all must attend or watch online afterwards. We also have weekly Monday and monthly Thursday meetings.

All volunteers to take part in the delivery of the session they would be expected to assist in the delivery. For example attending a BLS with AED session before supporting this in the community.

All community volunteers will be invited to attend an interview either in person or via teams with a panel formed of a hiring manager, member of the network and a nominated member of youth. There will be further

Multiple welcome events will be arranged including online and in person options. The location of these are to be confirmed for the mid program sessions (In Marsden village) and any running up to this will be conducted at the Huddersfield Hub. Each welcome event will include an interview, an introduction to the network as well as CPR practice.

Our fundraising event helpers have the exciting and varied role of helping at local fundraising events - such as cakes sales, barn dances, quiz nights – and everything in between!
 

You can expect us to

• make you feel welcome, included and respected in line with our values and behaviours
• support you in having a positive and impactful experience at Cats Protection
• cover agreed out-of-pocket expenses in line with our Expenses Policy
• provide you with access to learning, development and engagement opportunities

What we need from you

• help set up and/or man stalls at events
• help on collection days like supermarket collections events or street collections
• help at fundraising events such as quiz nights, cake sales and dances
• promoting a professional image of Cats Protection at events

Time expectation

This role is really flexible! You could choose to volunteer at one event for a couple of hours or attend multiple fundraising events.

We’ll keep you up to date with upcoming local events where volunteers are needed. You’ll then be able to choose which events you’d like to volunteer at and how many hours you’d like to give. However much time you can give, your contribution will help raise much needed funds to continue the work of Cats Protection.
