Role overview:

As the Volunteer Foster Coordinator, you will play a vital role in managing our foster program for cats in our care. This position is essential for ensuring that our cats are placed in loving, temporary homes while they await adoption. You will collaborate closely with foster carers, potential adopters, and other volunteers to create a supportive environment that benefits both the cats and their fosters.

Key responsibilities:

• Foster management: Oversee the onboarding and ongoing support of foster carers.

• Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for foster carers, addressing any questions or concerns and providing necessary updates. Communication will primarily occur through email and messaging platforms, access to facebook and Whatapp is essential.

• Training and support: Provide guidance and resources to foster carers on cat care, behaviour, and best practices to ensure the well-being of the cats in their care and ensuring our policies and procedures are upheld.

• Record keeping: Maintain organised and accurate records of foster placements, including intake forms, health updates, and feedback from foster homes.

• Coordination of resources: Ensure that foster homes have the necessary supplies (food, litter, etc.) and access to veterinary care as needed.

• Post-Foster follow-up: Check in with fosterers to gather feedback and facilitate any transitions to permanent homes, ensuring a smooth process for both the cats and their fosters.

What we’re looking for:

• Passion for animal welfare: A strong commitment to the well-being of cats and a desire to support their journey to permanent homes.

• Excellent communication skills: Ability to build rapport and communicate effectively with foster carers and the volunteer team.

• Organisational skills: Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple foster placements simultaneously.

• Computer proficiency: Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and communication platforms such as email and social media.

• Previous experience in animal rescue: Preferred but not essential; a willingness to learn and grow in this role is important. It is essential, however, to have experience and knowledge of cat health and behaviour.

About the Role

As a Volunteer, you will support with several aspects of the Childhood First Partnership. This will include the administration of the Community of Practice, which will launch to age dispute practitioners in late 2026. You will also support with communications for the Partnership, such as newsletters. Finally, you will be involved with the activities of the Youth Support Collective, such as supporting with co-production projects and facilitating ice-breaker activities in sessions if you wish.

You will work under the supervision of the Childhood First Partnership Officer, and also the Partnership Manager. This volunteering role would suit someone who has an interest in working with young people, learning about the asylum system, and developing workplace and administrative skills.

Hours: 4 hours per week - any day, Monday to Friday.

How we support our Volunteers

Volunteers are valued members of our teams, and we provide them with support and development opportunities. Volunteers will receive regular planned support sessions with their supervisors.

Refugee Council allows volunteers to attend our professional training courses when needed for the role, free of charge. Training will be discussed with you during support sessions with your supervisor.

Volunteers will be given an IT account, a Refugee Council email address, access to our Hub and online courses whilst volunteering with us. Equipment will be provided as and when needed for the role.

Through sponsorship from the Marsh Charitable Trust, Refugee Council also provides volunteers with the opportunity to design and set-up a new service for new clients. There will be an opportunity to discuss this with your supervisor.

Volunteer roles are unpaid, but we will reimburse volunteers for lunch and travel costs according to our expense policy. Unfortunately, our limited budget only allows for local travelling costs.

Mind in Salford is an independent, user-focused charity committed to ensuring local people experiencing mental health problems receive the support and respect they deserve. 

The charity provides a range of services including advocacy, welfare rights and debt advice, mindfulness, mental health training and specialist support for the LGBTQ+ community through its Rainbow Mind programme. 

With an experienced Senior Leadership Team and a Board that is going through a period of transition, this is an opportunity for a new Chair to strengthen Board effectiveness, support the development of new Trustees and help shape the charity’s next chapter. 

About the Role 

The Chair will provide strategic leadership to the Board, ensuring effective governance, sound decision-making and a clear focus on Mind in Salford’s charitable purpose. 

In this role, you will lead and develop an effective, inclusive and high-performing Board, Chair meetings, build a strong, constructive relationship with the Chief Executive and represent the Charity and help develop relationships with key partners and supporters. 

About You 

They are looking for someone with senior strategic leadership experience and a strong understanding of charity governance, who can lots of emotional intelligence and sound judgement to the role. 

You will bring: 

• Experience of working with a charity Board or in a senior non-executive role. 

• A strong understanding of the duties and responsibilities of charity Trustees. 

• The ability to chair meetings effectively, build consensus and manage challenging conversations. 

• Experience of providing strategic oversight of finance, risk and organisational performance. 

• Strong relationship-building and influencing skills. 

• A genuine commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion. 

Knowledge of health and social care, or a related sector, would be valuable. A connection to Salford and its communities is also important. 

Commitment 

The Board meets every two months, alongside a Finance sub-committee which meets four times a year. Trustees are expected to prepare for meetings, review papers in advance and contribute actively to Board discussions. As Chair you will be expected to meet regularly with the CEO and provide support outside of the formal meeting structure. 

This is a voluntary position, although reasonable out-of-pocket expenses will be reimbursed. The initial term is three years, with a maximum of three terms.

Life in a rescue environment is never ideal for any cat compared to a loving home. Our cat adoption team leaders support cat homing and as part of this they may lead a team of volunteer home visitors who collectively play an important part in matching our feline friends with their new families. What we need from you

You’ll be:

• Acting as the main point of contact within the team for cat adoption enquiries via email/telephone and social media
• Supporting the adoption process through either homefinder questionnaires or a small team of home visitors
• Liaising closely with other volunteers to ensure information on cats being helped is correct and up to date
• Following up on any post-adoption queries
• Play an active part in the volunteer committee, being part of the team leading on cat adoption information and updates
• Collaborating with the cat welfare team leader to ensure the highest standards of cat care are applied in line with Cats Protection policy and procedures

Time expectation

The cat adoption team leader role is vital within our busy volunteer teams. Our current volunteers spend around 10 to 12 hours per week in this flexible role, which can be shared by more than one volunteer if required.

Birmingham Cathedral is seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join its Chapter as a trustee (non-executive member). This is a unique opportunity to contribute as a trustee to the cathedral's strategic direction, provide governance and oversight, and share responsibility for the stewardship and sustainability of the resources that support its mission and ministry.

About The Role

As a member of the Cathedral Chapter, you will share with the Dean in the oversight of cathedral life. Chapter members are invaluable in shaping the direction of the cathedral and ensuring we continue to fulfil our mission and purpose. You will work collaboratively with clergy, staff, volunteers and external partners to uphold the cathedral’s mission, vision, values and strategic priorities.

Key Responsibilities of Chapter Members

· Perform the requirements of Charity Trustees for the purposes of the Charities Act 2011.

· Take full part in the discussions and decision making of the Chapter as it fulfils its statutory responsibilities to exercise general control and management of the administration of the cathedral.

· Order the worship of the cathedral and promote its mission;

· Formulate, after consulting the bishop, proposals relating to the general direction and mission of the cathedral.

· Ensure the approval of an annual budget.

· Ensure the preparation and approval of an annual report and accounts for audit and subsequent approval.

· Keep under review the Constitution and Statutes.

· Ensure the appropriate management of cathedral property and income, including necessary repairs and maintenance.

Key Individual Responsibilities of Chapter Members

· Attend Chapter meetings, held a minimum of six time a year for approximately three hours on a weekday afternoon, including one all-day away-day (all held in Birmingham City Centre).

· Offer an average time commitment of six hours per month, unevenly spread.

· Attend and contribute to worship at the cathedral.

· Contribute to the ministry of hospitality offered at the cathedral, and other cathedral activities as may be appropriate.

· Attend civic and community events.

· Act as an ambassador for the cathedral.

· Carry out the objects of the cathedral.

· Expect to serve for the full three-year appointment period, with opportunity for reappointment.

Who We Are Looking For

To support delivery of the cathedral’s strategic plan, we particularly welcome applications from individuals at this time with skills in:

· Strategic finance, financial management or stewardship

· Audit, assurance or internal controls.

· Property and heritage asset management

· Fundraising and income generation

· HR, organisational development or governance.

Candidates are not expected to hold experience across the multiple of these criteria to meet the eligibility threshold.

Experience in arts and heritage, community engagement or social justice initiatives, digital communications, investment planning, partnership-building across sectors and urban mission and inclusion would also be welcome.

Person Specification

Essential

· Commitment to the Christian faith and to the cathedral’s mission, vision and values, including wisdom, compassion, justice, inclusion, courage and collaboration.

· Eligibility to serve as a charity trustee.

· Commitment to safeguarding excellence, including completing safeguarding training and contributing to a safe, healthy and positive cathedral culture.

· Ability to think strategically and long-term, exercise sound judgement, and contribute to complex organisational governance.

· Understanding of, or willingness to learn about, the responsibilities of a charity trustee, including accountability, confidentiality and collective decision-making.

· Commitment to the cathedral’s strategic priorities.

· Strong communication skills, with the confidence to challenge constructively, collaborate effectively and build trust across diverse groups.

· Willingness to undertake trustee development and continue learning in support of effective governance.

· Ability to commit the time and energy required for the role, including meetings, preparation and training.

Desirable but not required

· Local knowledge or community context.

This is a voluntary role, but reasonable expenses will be reimbursed. Training and support will be provided.

The opportunity

As Head of Sustainability, you will provide strategic leadership across health, safety and environmental sustainability, ensuring these principles are embedded into our programmes, operations and organisational culture.

You will have the opportunity to build, influence and shape — developing policies and frameworks, working with teams across different countries and cultures, identifying risks and opportunities, and helping establish the standards that will support Project Yananai as it grows.

• Lead the Sustainability Strategy
• Develop and implement a practical, forward-looking sustainability strategy aligned with Project Yananai’s mission and international operations, ensuring health, safety and environmental considerations are integrated across our programmes.
• Build strong HSE frameworks
• Develop and establish effective policies, procedures and protocols covering health, safety and environmental management, helping create a consistent approach across our global operations.
• Influence and collaborate globally
• Work closely with international teams, local communities, partners and stakeholders to understand sustainability challenges, identify risks and develop solutions that are practical, culturally appropriate and capable of creating lasting impact.
• Build a culture of sustainability
• Design and deliver engaging training and awareness initiatives for staff and volunteers, helping embed sustainability, health and safety into everyday decision-making and organisational culture.
• Measure impact and drive improvement
• Develop appropriate measures to monitor the effectiveness of sustainability initiatives, using data and insight to identify opportunities for improvement and communicate progress to stakeholders.
• Champion sustainability externally
• Represent Project Yananai on sustainability matters and help develop relationships with relevant governmental, non-governmental and other organisations to strengthen our expertise, partnerships and impact.

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone who combines professional expertise with a genuine desire to create positive change.

You will ideally bring:

• 3+ years’ experience in sustainability management, health and safety, environmental management or a related field.
• Experience developing and implementing sustainability, HSE or environmental strategies.
• Strong understanding of relevant policies, standards, risk management and compliance.
• The ability to translate strategy into practical policies, processes and measurable outcomes.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
• The confidence to work across cultures, countries and different organisational environments.
• A collaborative and pragmatic approach, with the ability to influence without relying solely on formal authority.
• A genuine commitment to social impact, environmental responsibility and community empowerment.
• Experience within the charity, non-profit or international development sector would be advantageous, but it is not essential.
