About Roots Academy.
Roots Academy’s Vision.
A generation of young Muslims who embody and promote a God-centred way of life.
At Roots Academy, we’ve built a learning experience that’s changing the lives of the ummah’s future leaders, change-makers and visionaries. Our Mission is to deliver a structured and transformative education in the Essentials of Islam in a way that lowers barriers to access, develops a deep certainty, and inspires action.
Why Does Roots Academy Exist?
Crisis of Faith: 1 in 4 young Muslims are leaving the religion due to various factors, primarily the pervasive anti-religious content and temptations they encounter online and offline.
Roots Academy exists to bridge this gap by providing a structured and transformative Islamic education that speaks directly to the needs and challenges of young Muslims today, delivered in an engaging and accessible form that removes barriers to access and provokes thought and action.
Role Summary.
Creators with Purpose is Roots Academy's community of Muslim student content creators - a hand-picked group of relatable, authentic voices using their platforms to reach and uplift Muslim students across the country.
To grow and sustain it, we're looking for a Community Manager to be the heartbeat of this community. You'll onboard new creators, run our content calendar and review process, and keep a thriving group of creators supported, inspired and consistently producing content that reaches the exact audience we exist to serve. This is a relationship-first role for someone who loves bringing people together around a shared mission.
Key tasks
Community management - Own and energise our creator community keeping it warm, active and supportive; welcome new creators, spark introductions, and encourage creators to learn from and uplift one another.
Onboarding - Identify and reach out to potential creators, run friendly 1-2-1 welcome calls, share the vision and welcome pack, and bring new creators into the fold with as low a barrier to entry as possible.
Content coordination - Run the content calendar end-to-end: agree each creator's posting frequency and dates, keep the Notion tracker current.
Creative support - Keep creators inspired with prompts, content ideas and themed series (e.g. Freshers, exam season), and offer tailored concepts to those who want them while protecting each creator's own style and voice.
Mentorship & belonging - Coordinate regular calls with the team, and help every creator feel like a genuine part of Team Roots.
Tracking & reporting - Track creator output and reach, monitor how creators are driving students toward Roots workshops, and report progress and feedback.
What we’re looking for
Passion for Islamic education and the development of young Muslims.
A people person who builds genuine, warm relationships and makes others feel welcome.
Organised and reliable - comfortable keeping plates spinning and keeping people on track.
A feel for social media content and an instinct for what resonates with Muslim students.
Passion for Islamic education and the development of young Muslims.
Self-starting and proactive - happy to take initiative rather than wait to be asked.
No formal experience or qualifications required - just the right heart, attitude and willingness to learn.
What we have to offer
Be part of a team of 100+ dedicated volunteers across the UK, Ireland, Canada, US, UAE and Australia.
Receive continuous rewards for those that seek Islamic knowledge from the Roots platform.
Be a part of a growing organisation that aims to revive and educate Muslims from a grassroots perspective.
Receive in-house tarbiyah sessions to develop your deen.
Please note this is an unpaid volunteer position.
Volunteers are entitled to claim expenses incurred for food, travel and equipment, in line with our Expenses policy.
We teach structured, engaging and transformative face-to-face foundational Islamic education to Young Muslims across the UK and internationally.

We would still be happy to host you if space is available. However, in a situation where the shared houses are full, this would allow us to offer an opportunity to someone that cannot afford to pay rent.

China Plate are looking for new Trustees to join our friendly and dynamic Board. If you are interested in the ways arts and culture can have a positive impact on the world, we’d love to hear from you.
China Plate is an arts charity based in Birmingham and working across the West Midlands, the UK and internationally. We’re producers: we work with people to make creative projects happen. Our projects include theatre shows, training programmes, audio anthologies, short films and bus stop galleries.
Our artistic programme is underpinned by our four core values: creativity, optimism, integrity and inclusivity. We’re now looking for new Trustees who share these values and who, like us, are interested in bringing communities together to produce creative projects that fire the imagination, make positive change and are open to all.
Our Trustees meet four times a year to discuss the company’s strategy and progress, and to ensure we are meeting all our legal requirements. These Board meetings are hybrid: you can join us online or in our Birmingham office.
Trustees are not paid: they are volunteers who give their time to support charities. However, at China Plate we can cover costs like travel expenses for meetings and events. If Trustees have access requirements – for example if you require BSL interpretation, captioning, or information provided in particular formats – we will also put these into place.
You do not need to have been part of a Board before to join. You could be based in the West Midlands or elsewhere in the UK. We are looking to recruit new Trustees from either inside or outside the arts sector, including those who may not yet be familiar with our work. We’re interested in hearing from anyone who shares our values, is excited by what we’re doing and is keen to support, question and challenge us.
We would particularly like to recruit one Trustee who is a young person (18-30) who has previously taken part in one of China Plate’s Training & Development programmes – such as The Optimists, Young Producers, or our internships and placements.
Deadline to apply is 12pm (midday) on Wednesday 30th September 2026.
If you’d like to find out more, please visit our website to download the Trustee Recruitment pack.
If you’d like to have a conversation about the role prior to applying, please email our Executive Director Chloe.

A fantastic opportunity to build knowledge of the UK asylum system, gain experience of casework and deliver an essential service to young asylum seekers.
About Care4Calais
Care4Calais is a volunteer-based charity providing essential aid and support for refugees in France and the UK.
In northern France we operate year-round from Calais, providing warm clothing, bedding, food and assistance to refugees who live in appalling and dangerous conditions.
Across the UK we collect and distribute clothes, shoes, mobile phones and other essential items, as well as offering social support and interaction, including language lessons, sport and music workshops. We also help with vital access to legal, medical and educational services.
Our Legal Access Department is an access to justice project that exists to arrange critical legal representation for people seeking asylum and, more than this, to support people through the hostility and difficulty of claiming asylum. The department, made up mostly of volunteers, works tirelessly to ensure that people feel informed, empowered, and far less isolated and alone.
About the role
This role provides crucial one-to-one casework and support to people seeking asylum in the UK. Our Age Dispute Team assists young unaccompanied asylum seekers whose age is disputed, and are subsequently treated as adults though they are children, to access the support they deserve through referrals to local authorities and legal representatives. The casework support provided is invaluable and ensures that clients have someone to turn to and someone advocating for their safety and care in a confusing and often scary system.
You’ll have the chance to gain broad experience of working in a fast-paced and experienced team while meeting the ever-changing needs of those we support. So, if you thrive in a collaborative environment and are looking for a role where you can make a real difference, we want to hear from you!
We ask volunteers to commit to a minimum of 6 hours per week. We can be flexible in how this time is allocated. Successful applicants will be provided with the induction and training needed for them to succeed in the role.
We are looking for people who have a genuine passion for human rights and refugee protection. If this is you, please get in touch.
Responsibilities:
Supporting people seeking asylum to understand the process and ensuring that they are able to make their own, informed choices.
Attend induction, ongoing training and keep up to date with resources and procedure to ensure you can carry out the role effectively and efficiently.
Working independently and managing your time, sometimes working to tight deadlines.
Taking on new cases regularly, whilst also providing ongoing support to existing clients.
Sorting and organising client’s paperwork and accurately maintaining client records.
Liaising with other professionals including lawyers, Migrant Help, children's services and other C4C teams.
Following safeguarding procedures and reporting safeguarding incidents appropriately.
Provide emotional support and reassurance and make referrals and signpost to more appropriate support if needed.
Keeping the management team updated of any issues that may impact your ability to carry out the role effectively.

Experience or transferable experience in efficiently managing high volume caseloads while maintaining a high standard of care and attention.
Resilience in the face of challenging and emotionally demanding situations, with a positive and solution-oriented mindset.
Proactive and self-motivated, with the ability to take initiative.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate with people who do not have English as their first language, working alongside interpreters to ensure clients’ understand the process.
Professional and dedicated to ensure that the best interests of the clients and Care4Calais are represented at all times.
Not essential but we welcome individuals with the below skills to offer:
Proficiency in one or more of the languages spoken within asylum seeking communities, such as but not limited to Arabic, Farsi, Pashto, Dari, Kurdish Sorani, Tigrinya, Amharic, is a strong asset.
Having experience of the asylum system in the UK is a strong asset.
Knowledge of local authority's responsibilities to unaccompanied asylum seeking children.
Lived Experience Inclusion:
We are an anti-racist organisation and a proud member of the Experts by Experience Employment Network (EBE), which aims to create a charitable sector led by individuals with lived experience of the asylum system.
As part of our membership, we are dedicated to creating inclusive employment practices that recognise and accommodate the unique circumstances and strengths of people with lived experience. We actively move away from a one-size-fits-all approach, ensuring our recruitment processes are fair, supportive, and accessible.
We warmly encourage applicants with lived experience to make use of the guidance and resources available on the EBE website (ebeemployment)
In addition, applicants with lived experience are welcome to connect with the EBE support team for tailored assistance with completing the application form and, where available, one-to-one interview preparation.
