Families supported by Young Lives vs Cancer are going through some of the most challenging times of their lives. At Young Lives vs Cancer, we get that. We are a charity that helps children and young people (aged 0-24), and their families find the strength to face whatever cancer throws at them.  

As an Events Coordinator in the South West Social Work team, you will plan and coordinate a range of events throughout the year; working directly with the families we support and partner organisations. we hope to run events across the region including end‑of‑treatment celebration days, sibling days, festive events and bereavement support events 

What you give as a volunteer goes far beyond practical support; it’s reassurance, kindness, and hope at a time when it’s needed most. Your time and commitment can help make the cancer journey a little lighter and leave a lasting, positive impact on the families you support. 

What you’ll be doing 

We hope to carry out regular events across the whole region. Your help will be invaluable in achieving this. Your tasks will include: 

• Helping to organise, co-ordinate and run events. 

• Communication with invitees and organisations involved in the planning and facilitation of events. 

• Attendance of events as a welcoming presence; helping people feel comfortable, supported, and gently connected to one another. 

• Working alongside social workers as a valued member of the team and reporting back to your volunteer manager. 

Volunteer as a courtwatcher and become the eyes and ears of your community in your local magistrates’ court.

CourtWatch is a mass court observation project, where citizen volunteers observe the daily hearings in court and write down what they see. The real-time data and stories volunteers collect will shine a spotlight on what really happens in our local courts, expose shortfalls and highlight systemic injustices. The CourtWatch project is run by Transform Justice, a charity that works for a fairer, more compassionate criminal justice system. 

Volunteer responsibilities:

• visit your local magistrates’ court for half a day (or a day) at a time, on any weekday. Ideally volunteers will courtwatch for a minimum of two days (or four half days)

• observe criminal hearings happening in the court and write down what happens in the hearings you observe, using a form provided by the CourtWatch team 

• write up your notes into an online form after your visit (if you don’t have easy access to a computer, we can work around this)

Skills and experience:

Anyone can courtwatch! You do not need any knowledge or expertise in law or criminal justice to be a courtwatcher.  You just need to be passionate about justice and equality, and keen to create positive change in your community. 

We will provide you with all the training you need on what happens at court, what to look out for and how to document what happens. Training will be online and likely take place over two sessions. There will also be regular check-ins and debriefs where you can talk with the CourtWatch team and other volunteers about what you saw and heard.

Other information:

Criminal hearings take place on weekdays between 10am and 5pm, with a break for lunch 1-2pm, and Saturday mornings 10am - 1pm. 

Within the times above, and once you’ve completed the training, you can go to court when it is most convenient to you. You might want to buddy up with another volunteer for your first visit while you learn the ropes; we can help arrange this. 

You can courtwatch any time from when you’ve completed your training to 30 November 2026 – we hope you’ll become a regular! – after which we will use data you have collected to produce a report.  We may also use some of the stories and data you collect to communicate about what’s happening in courts while courtwatching is still underway.

Transform Justice will cover reasonable expenses that you incur while courtwatching, for example for travel and lunch, upon production of valid receipts and in line with our expenses policy. 

Transform Justice will make reasonable adjustments for people with disabilities who would like to volunteer. Please get in touch and we will discuss with you how to achieve this.

Before you begin courtwatching we will ask you to complete our volunteer training and a pre-courtwatching survey, and sign our volunteer agreement.

The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) is looking for a Trustee with senior fundraising, supporter engagement and income generation experience to join our Board.

This voluntary role is an opportunity to use your expertise to help shape the future of a life-saving charity. As a Trustee, you'll provide strategic oversight, constructive challenge and specialist governance, helping to ensure we can continue delivering critical care to people across the North East, North Yorkshire, Cumbria and the Isle of Man.

· Donor stewardship, supporter journeys and campaign planning

Our trustees play a vital role in making sure that the Lifescape Project ("Lifescape") achieves its purpose. Trustees oversee the management and administration of the charity. They also ensure that Lifescape has a clear strategy and that our work and goals are in line with our vision: We want to live in a world rich in wild landscapes, providing a sustainable future for life on earth. 

Just as importantly, trustees support and challenge the executive team to enable Lifescape to grow and thrive, to achieve our mission of catalysing the creation, restoration and protection of wild landscapes by through building and employing our expertise in science, technology, law, economics, and culture. 

Duties include: 

• Support and provide advice on Lifescape’s purpose, vision, goals and activities.

• Approve operational strategies and policies, and monitor and evaluate their implementation. 

• Oversee Lifescape’s financial plans and budgets and monitor and evaluate progress.

• Review and approve Lifescape’s financial statements. 

• Keep abreast of changes in Lifescape's operating environment, and ensure that key risks are identified, monitored and controlled effectively.

As a small charity, there are times when trustees need to be actively involved beyond Board meetings. This may include assisting with recruitment, developing internal policies, ad-hoc reviews of strategic decisions or providing guidance to the executive team on specific subject areas within your expertise.

Prior experience of working or volunteering for, or acting as trustee of, an NGO would be an advantage but is not required. We will provide a full induction and training.

Terms of appointment 

Terms of office 

• Trustees are appointed for a three-year term of office, subject to renewal at a designated board meeting. 

• This is a voluntary position, but reasonable expenses are reimbursed. 

Time commitment 

• Trustees attend quarterly board meetings which last approximately two hours. These are usually scheduled towards the end of the UK working day (e.g. 5pm – 7pm) but timings can be varied if required.

• Board meetings are usually held virtually, with one in-person meeting a year (see below).

• An agenda and pack of supporting materials will be circulated in advance of the meeting. We would normally recommend allowing at least an hour to read these and prepare for the meeting.

• In addition, we may call ad hoc meetings of the board as needed, e.g. to discuss strategy or where an urgent board approval is required.

• Lifescape is a remote organisation and relies on periodic in-person meetings to bring team members together. The trustees are asked to attend an annual offsite, which may be held in the UK or abroad. Travel, accommodation and meals are paid for and organised by Lifescape. The length of the annual offsite varies depending on location but is usually four days, requiring trustees to spend at least three nights away from home. 

Committee membership

• The board delegates certain functions to committees. We currently have a Governance Committee and a Finance & HR Committee. There may be new committees in future. These committees meet approximately once a month, and the timing of the meetings is flexible to suit the availability of participants.

• If you would like to see the Terms of Reference for either committee, then please let us know. We would be delighted if new trustees were keen to get involved in our committee work.

About the role

While financial matters are the responsibility of all trustees, the Treasurer is instrumental in guiding the CEO and the Board with advice, guidance and reassurance on all aspects of the charity’s financial management and reporting and controls.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual with relevant expertise and experience to join our Board of Trustees, initially as an Ordinary Trustee, but with the aim of taking over the Treasurer role upon completion of induction and handover

You will form part of our Board of Trustees, accountable in the UK with the following responsibilities:
1. Ensure the charity complies with charity law and does not breach any requirements or rules set out in our governing documents.
2. Provide strategic oversight and input into the running of the organisation.
3. Contribute towards securing a sustainable funding base for the charity.

4. Oversee and present budgets, internal management accounts and annual financial statements to the Board,
advising on specific issues during the annual audit process.
5. Lead in the Board’s duty to ensure that proper accounting records are kept, financial resources are properly controlled and spent, and adequate reserves are maintained.
6. Oversee the design of financial controls and adherence to systems; leading the financial risk‐management process.
7. Act as a signatory on Able Child’s bank accounts.
8. Actively participate in and steer the Resources Sub-Committee of the Board

About You

You will live the values of Able Child, keeping the best interests of our staff and beneficiaries at the heart of decision making. You will have the capability to support our Strategic Plan, working closely with the CEO to ensure the organisation remains well governed and at the forefront of our sector.

As Treasurer, you will have background knowledge and understanding of the voluntary sector and the specific charity finance, including but not limited to, accounting for restricted and unrestricted funding, full cost recovery from grants and managing foreign exchange. We are especially interested in hearing from women for this role, although applications from all qualified candidates are welcomed

Experience
1. A recognised professional qualification (e.g. CIMA, ACA, ACCA or CIPFA) with demonstrable post qualification experience (greater than 5 years) and a thorough practical understanding of management accounting principles and techniques.
2. Experience of working within a charity finance function (desirable).
3. Previous (or current) experience as a trustee (not essential).

We are looking for an Events Assistant who can help us organise monthly community dinners featuring three course meals from around the globe to enable the charity to engage with and attract donors. We require help with running the dinner on the day with tasks including welcoming the guests, serving food and drinks, take payments, setting up and clearing, etc.

You will be working as part of a team to plan and organise other events and fundraisers throughout the year, for example refugee week. You will also be assisting with applying for funds for events including securing raffle prizes, donations of ingredients, material needed, musicians and entertainment, etc.

This role will also include working closely with our marketing team, providing details of upcoming events for promotion; taking pictures and quotes at the event.

Main duties will include:

• Prior experience of events planning and organisation
• A passion and keenness to engage in community-based work to support refugees and serve the local community
• Good organisation skills including: effective time management, punctuality and delegation of tasks.

ORCD UK is the British branch of ORCD Global, Afghanistan’s most established local humanitarian organisation. We have delivered over $100M+ in aid, hold UN ECOSOC status, and partner directly with UNICEF, WFP, and the WHO.

As we build our UK presence from scratch, we are looking for a passionate writer to help give our branch its voice. You will work with a pre-prepared Communications Toolkit to help us write and polish:

Volunteer SEO Expert needed to launch Long Covid Support's new digital home

What will you be doing (role overview)?:

Long Covid Support is moving to a new website and stepping forward with a fresh brand identity. We need an SEO expert to help us get it right from day one. This is a chance to make a real impact. You'll be at the heart of our digital launch, collaborating closely with our volunteer team, brand advisors, and IT support to ensure our new website reaches the people who need it most.

What are we looking for (about you)?

Essential skills and experience:

· Solid knowledge of SEO principles and practices (on-page optimisation, technical SEO, keyword research, etc.)

· Experience with Google Analytics and ability to set up meaningful tracking

· Able to use Squarespace

· Ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical people

· Enthusiasm for working with a charity and making a difference

· Good communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams

Nice to have:

· Experience with Google Ad Grants

· Understanding of website transitions and migration SEO

What difference will you make:

When people search for help, we want them to find us. Better SEO means our new website reaches more people with Long Covid at the moment they're looking for support. Your work will directly help us expand our reach and impact.

Key Responsibilities:

· Meet with our project lead to establish our needs, set realistic timeframes, and design an effective SEO approach for us

· Ensure effective traffic is directed to our new site, including managing connections to our old site where advisable

· Lead keyword optimisation as a result of our name and brand change

· Set up Google Analytics to help us gather robust, high-quality data from our new website

· Collaborate with our team, brand advisors, and existing IT support to ensure you have all the information and access you need

· Advise on Google Ad Grants services once SEO work has concluded - the role could extend if you're interested in developing this workstream

· Technical requirement: You'll need to be comfortable using Squarespace, as this is where our new website is hosted. We'll provide access and support.

About the role:

As a Shop Volunteer you’ll be joining a friendly, welcoming team of volunteers and staff who support each other and have a lot of fun along the way. We value every volunteer and the unique perspective, skills and energy you bring. 

Whether you’re sorting donations, creating beautiful displays, or chatting to customers, every task you take on helps to build a more inclusive world. 

We value volunteer development, and as part of this role your can develop your skills further by training to become a till user alongside your regular shop volunteer responsibilities, or progressing into a Key volunteer, a role which includes opening, running, and closing the shop in the absence of the manager.

No matter your reason for volunteering – whether it’s to meet new people, build new skills or support Sense’s cause – there’s a place for you in one of our shops. 

Due to the nature of the role, we require all applicants to be aged 16 or over. You must have a UK address to volunteer with Sense.

Key responsibilities: Shop volunteer 

You’ll spend time doing a range of activities, including:

• Welcoming and assisting customers, providing great customer service, helping create a wonderful shopping experience.
• Receiving donated items from the public, thanking them for their support.
• Sorting, steaming and preparing donations for sale.
• Helping to display stock in eye-catching and exciting ways.
• Keeping the shop floor clean, safe and tidy.
• Talking to customers about Sense and the work we do.

Key responsibilities: Till volunteer

Being a till volunteer includes all the same responsibilities as a shop volunteer, however, when you’re ready, we’ll provide you with additional training to:

• Serve customers on the till in a warm and friendly way.
• Put sales through the till, packing them and thanking the customer for shopping with us.
• Talk to customers about Gift Aid and other fundraising initiatives.

Key responsibilities: Key volunteer

• Supporting the shop manager to make sure customers have a great experience.
• Opening and closing the shop when needed.

Get Out There groups are a growing division of Sense that cater for children between 6 and 16 with complex needs. We provide a 4 hour social setting which caters for children and families who need respite. We offer activities such as games, puzzles, arts and crafts, experiments, cookery and sensory play. We aim to tailor sessions to the needs, interests and abilities of the children we support and put pupil voice at the center of all we do. 

As a volunteer you'll make sure that everyone has a great time and can make the most of the activities on offer. You'll need lots of energy, a warm and welcoming personality and to be happy getting stuck in to a wide range of tasks and activities, all of which make sure that everyone has the best day they can together. 

What your role will involve

• Taking part in activities alongside disabled young people. You could be joining creative activities, movement or sports session, trips out in to the local community or seasonal themed activities.
• Helping to set up the activities at the start of the day, clear away at the end and keep activities safe, clean and running smoothly throughout.
• Helping to welcome young people to the group, find their way around and between activities, enjoy breaks and lunchtime and generally have a great day with the team and Sense.

A basic / enhanced Disclosure & Barring check will be required for this volunteer role.
