Are you a fluent Farsi speaker with a passion for helping others? We are seeking dedicated volunteers to assist women in improving their English language skills. Improving someone’s understanding and spoken English language, will allow individuals to communicate and connect with people in their local community, widen their network of friendships and relationships, and provide people opportunity to improve their employability skills. 

We are looking for a face-to-face volunteer for a minimum of 1 hour per week who is available between hours 11am – 2.30pm Monday-Friday!

• To support individuals who are not confident with spoken English to develop their reading, writing and conversational skills through one-to-one sessions.

We're looking for a knowledgeable and detail-oriented volunteer Data Protection Lead to help ensure Been There maintains strong, proportionate and effective data protection, information governance and GDPR compliance arrangements. 

This role builds on data protection work already established within the charity. Working closely with the Operations Lead, you'll take forward and develop our existing policies, processes and protections, helping us strengthen our approach as the organisation grows. 

The role will provide ongoing oversight, advice and support across the charity's data protection activities. Some responsibilities will involve regular or periodic reviews, while others will arise on an occasional or as-needed basis, such as supporting a data breach, DPIA, subject access request or changes to our systems and processes. 

You'll work alongside the Operations Lead to identify risks, improve processes and ensure our approach to data protection remains practical, proportionate and appropriate for a small but growing charity. 

This is an ideal opportunity for someone with professional experience in data protection, compliance or information governance who would like to use their expertise to make a meaningful difference.

We need foster families for our animals in need! 

Dogs and cats in UK foster homes are 5 times more likely to be adopted quickly into their forever home, compared to their siblings in our Romanian shelter.

You will welcome a dog or cat into your home and love them like your own - but will set clear boundaries to improve their ‘adoptability’ score.

Someone in your home needs to be at home most of the time, as our animals often suffer from separation anxiety; you will be able to take them for walks on the lead to exercise them as well as provide them with games and mental stimulation at home too.

We match our foster homes with dogs and cats that meet their needs, so you have a say in the visitor that joins you - they usually stay between 2 days and 2 months, depending on time of year and the animal itself.

We need help homechecking prospective adopters! This is a fully remote role and we only ask that you commit a minimum of 3 hours a week for a minimum of 6 months.

You’re a clear communicator and loves meeting new people - the Homechecker meets prospective adopters at a key point of their journey.

You’ll be comfortable using whatsapp, google meet or equivalent to conduct video homecheck calls, following a script to check the adopters’ home set-up and make sure they understand what Romania rescues are like.

We expect that you will represent us in a professional, supportive and friendly manner, giving an unbiased summary of your conversation and a clear recommendation for or against adoption.

Your homecheck write ups will be clear and concise so the Directors can understand each adopters individual strengths and any potential challenges.

You’ll be comfortable with social media and email marketing - facebook, instagram, tiktok as well as our website and email database are the primary way we can stay in touch with donors and adopters.

Ideally, you will be able to create short video reels and graphics using our charity Canva account and native social media apps.

What will you be doing?

As part of the Management team you will be responsible for ensuring that the group is acting in a way that recognises its safeguarding responsibilities in all its activities.

This will include carrying out Enhanced DBS checks on behalf of the group when appropriate and provide an induction for new Management Team Members so they are aware of the safeguarding requirements of the group and to initiate an annual short Safeguarding Refresher Session at a coach meeting.

Management team meetings are held typically every six to eight weeks, alternating on line and in person.

We’re looking for admin volunteers to help with our daily operations.  We have a variety of ways you can get involved:

• Drafting and mailing client correspondence and newsletters

We’ve designed our volunteering programme to be flexible and adaptive to you.  All volunteering is 100% remote and you’re supported fully by our team.  You control what you do and how many hours per week you want to volunteer.  Some roles may require an Enhanced DBS check. If your application is successful, we will ask for a donation towards the cost of your enhanced DBS check if it's required for your role. This cost is £22.60.

How does it work?

In 2025 we launched our arm chair volunteering initiative to help us spread the word about our service and to give people the opportunity to take part in surveys and projects to help us deliver the best mental health support to the UK public.

We'd like to embrace what you love doing, whether that be sharing on socials, proof reading, surveys, sharing experiences or getting involved in our fabulous projects.

Important information:

In order to volunteer for knus as an ambassador, you will need to complete a brief application form and a ID check. A DBS is not required for this role, however, if you wish to progress to another role you may need a disclosure. We do this to ensure of service remains a safe place to volunteer for all. Please do not worry about this, we will help you as much as we can.

Training is provided by us and our training partners. You will be required to attend this training using online conferencing software such as zoom or teams.

You will be vital to the work of your local Scope shop, as one of the first faces customers see.

You will receive training on serving our customers on the till, taking payments and making Gift Aid donations. This makes a real difference to our income and the number of disabled people we can support.

Your role may include:

• using the till and cash handling
• welcoming and supporting customers
• helping to display stock and window dressing
• preparing goods for sale
• tidying and cleaning the shop

When and where

You will be based at our Scope shop at 88/88a High Street, Acton, London, W3 6QX. We are flexible on the times you would like to volunteer. We’d love your help for as little as 1 hour a week, but if you can give more time that would help us even more.
