Young people play a crucial role in helping us realise this mission. As a volunteer with our youth teams, you’ll be trained to provide our young people with both life skills and lifesaving skills – all while having great fun!

You’ll be working with our brilliant Badgers (aged 7-10) or creative Cadets (aged 11-18). You’ll also have the opportunity to design your own role, whether that involves running fun activities – such as outdoor events, summer camps and mountain adventures – or providing ‘behind-the-scenes’ support.

We’ll offer you the chance to become a fully-fledged Youth Leader, which will mean completing extra courses in First Aid or Adventure to broaden your capacity and experience.

Would you like to volunteer once a week or once a month? That’s entirely up to you. With the constant guidance of a friendly volunteer manager and youth team, you’ll have all the support you need to make bold strides and rediscover your inner ‘big kid’.

This role is exempt from the provisions of the Rehabilitations Offenders Act and as such as Enhanced DBS check will be obtained.

Mind in Salford is an independent, user-focused charity committed to ensuring local people experiencing mental health problems receive the support and respect they deserve. 

The charity provides a range of services including advocacy, welfare rights and debt advice, mindfulness, mental health training and specialist support for the LGBTQ+ community through its Rainbow Mind programme. 

With an experienced Senior Leadership Team and a Board that is going through a period of transition, this is an opportunity for a new Chair to strengthen Board effectiveness, support the development of new Trustees and help shape the charity’s next chapter. 

About the Role 

The Chair will provide strategic leadership to the Board, ensuring effective governance, sound decision-making and a clear focus on Mind in Salford’s charitable purpose. 

In this role, you will lead and develop an effective, inclusive and high-performing Board, Chair meetings, build a strong, constructive relationship with the Chief Executive and represent the Charity and help develop relationships with key partners and supporters. 

About You 

They are looking for someone with senior strategic leadership experience and a strong understanding of charity governance, who can lots of emotional intelligence and sound judgement to the role. 

You will bring: 

• Experience of working with a charity Board or in a senior non-executive role. 

• A strong understanding of the duties and responsibilities of charity Trustees. 

• The ability to chair meetings effectively, build consensus and manage challenging conversations. 

• Experience of providing strategic oversight of finance, risk and organisational performance. 

• Strong relationship-building and influencing skills. 

• A genuine commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion. 

Knowledge of health and social care, or a related sector, would be valuable. A connection to Salford and its communities is also important. 

Commitment 

The Board meets every two months, alongside a Finance sub-committee which meets four times a year. Trustees are expected to prepare for meetings, review papers in advance and contribute actively to Board discussions. As Chair you will be expected to meet regularly with the CEO and provide support outside of the formal meeting structure. 

This is a voluntary position, although reasonable out-of-pocket expenses will be reimbursed. The initial term is three years, with a maximum of three terms.

About CARAS:

Community Action for Refugees and Asylum Seekers (CARAS) is a charity that supports refugees and people seeking asylum who live in south London. We offer a range of individual and group support to improve the holistic wellbeing of people who have a background of forced migration, providing them with tools to build lives filled with value, meaning and purpose in the UK. Our activities for young people currently include: ESOL classes (English for Speakers of Other Languages), study group, youth club, swimming lessons and football.

About Youth Club:

Youth Club is a place for young people aged 14-19 to come and play games, learn new skills, make and strengthen friendships and build a sense of belonging. Regular activities include classic youth club games such as table tennis, pool, foosball, board and card games. We also work in partnership with a range of organisations to run a rich programme of workshops within our youth club. Some of these have included creative visual arts, drama, music and workshops on rights and entitlements of young asylum seekers. We also cook a hot meal from time to time and offer a range of snacks each week. Our casework team are also on-site to support young people with a range of advice and signposting needs, usually by-appointment.

About the role:

As a Youth Club volunteer, you would be helping young people to feel welcome, join in with activities and be a great role model.

Youth Club takes place every Wednesday at 6.00-8.30pm. We ask for a commitment of at least 2 sessions per month for a minimum of 6 months.

Tasks and responsibilities:

· To attend and contribute to volunteer de-briefs which occur 15 minutes after each session.

· To act as a positive role model and set standards of behaviour when volunteering with young people.

· To encourage and inspire young people to reach their full potential.

· To assist young people to both recognise and celebrate their achievements.

· To challenge young peoples’ negative attitudes and behaviour in an appropriate manner.

Requirements:

To be 18 years or older;

· To be non-judgemental and able to engage with people from diverse cultural backgrounds;

· Excellent communication skills, especially with people with varying levels of English;

· The ability to volunteer on Wednesday evenings for a minimum of six months;

· Current resident of the UK;

· Able to provide five years’ worth of addresses, and willing to undergo a DBS check;

· Able to attend compulsory volunteer induction training (online) general and safeguarding prior to the start of role

Volunteer induction training currently takes place online once a month on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday evenings from 6pm - 8pm. we offer the same trainings on Tuesday and Wednesday daytimes online between 12noon - 2pm once every 3 months.

Your availability to attend 1 general and 1 safeguarding online training session at these times within 3 months of your application would be a prerequisite of being accepted as a volunteer at CARAS.

Desirable:

Peaceful Place is a specialist dementia charity supporting people to remain active, independent and connected to their community.  We focus on abilities, not limitations, helping every person attending our day centre to live a meaningful and fulfilling life.  We believe everyone living with dementia or Parkinson's has the right to live their best life.

What will you be doing?

Governing bodies are responsible for the strategic management of a school and make decisions about a wide range of issues. 

The core responsibilities involved are: 

• Ensuring accountability 
• Acting as a critical friend to the head teacher

The governing body is usually split into a small number of committees, each responsible for one area such as finance or pupil achievement. A school governing body is made up of representatives from the school, the parents, the local authority, and the local community. 

What are we looking for?

You don’t need any specific skills or experience to be a school governor. You must be over 18, but you don’t need to be a parent or have experience working in education. Often, it’s the outside perspective you can bring that a school needs. 

Professional experience in areas such as HR, finance, law, or project management is useful to a school. Soft skills such as leadership, communication, and problem solving are also great additions.

Governors make decisions that affect schools for years to come. Our recent impact survey found that our volunteers bring £9.9 million worth of value to schools each year, and 9 in 10 volunteers would recommend being a governor to a friend.

We are looking for volunteers to help in our busy charity shop in Southend.  Funds from our charity shop go directly towards supporting the activities provided at our day centre.

In this role, you will engage with visitors, assist with daily shop operations, and help create a welcoming environment for all.  Your enthusiasm and dedication will directly contribute to the success of our charity shop, making a positive impact in the community while gaining valuable experience in customer service and retail operations.

Duties of this role:

• Greet customers warmly and provide friendly, helpful assistance throughout their visit.

• Handle cash register transactions accurately and efficiently, including processing sales and card transactions.

Volunteer Activity – Rhododendron Control.

A throwback to the Victorian era of introducing exotic species to large estates, rhododendron has become an invasive species that threatens the diversity and existence of native woodlands. As part of the ongoing restoration of our temperate rainforest on Baronsdown, we will be clearing these plants for the benefit of our native ground flora and the trees of the future.

No experience is needed as full instruction and supervision will be provided (under 18s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian). Tools and equipment are supplied.

Please note, the land is uneven and hilly. Suitable outdoor clothing and footwear are advised, such as wellies or sturdy boots, long sleeves/trousers, and waterproofs.

What is the role?

This role sits within the RAF Museum’s Midlands Development Programme which will transform our museum and our impact on the local community though a series of phased projects – engaging audiences who may not obviously identify with the RAF story by finding common interests and histories which link them. As part of this project, we are planning a new learning centre, outdoor spaces, collections hub and major exhibition.

The RAF Museum is looking for a small team of Communications and Marketing Volunteers. The role can be based in Cosford , Stafford or London, with the option to assist remotely. This person will volunteer alongside the Communications and Marketing team and is suited to someone interested in content creation and social media, has good writing and communication skills, and is keen to assist with a wide range of exciting filming, promotional, news and event opportunities.

What will I be doing?

You will be assisting the Communications and Marketing team with a range of activities, including:

• Using the Museum collections to create social media posts
• Creating video content for Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and X including captions so content is accessible
• Drafting social media posts for multiple platforms (including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, X and Blue Sky), dependent upon the subject/content

· Meeting with staff onsite to develop ideas for stories

· You will be invited to attend events or interview staff and other professionals involved in the Midlands Development Programme

· Develop written and video blogs based on content from either our Midlands site, our stored collection in Stafford, or content in London related to the Midlands Development Programme

· Capture photos to support blog posts and general marketing campaigns

· Assist with updating content on the Museum’s website

· Support the team by hosting media visits and attending events both on and off-site

• Assist with research and content planning, by identifying awareness days, RAF and other relevant anniversaries, and trending topics to help build the content calendar
• Adapt existing blogs, videos and stories into short-form social posts, newsletters or LinkedIn content
• Assist with the analysis of campaigns
• Submit draft content to the team for sign off and publication of content.

This role is perfect for you if you…

· Have good copywriting skills with a good level of spelling, grammar and proof-reading, as well as having a creative flair for producing engaging copy

This is a flexible role in terms of days and hours, depending on the projects and activities taking place at the Museum which require communications support. Many of the content projects can be done at a time and pace mutually agreed.

Unfortunately, thousands of cats each year are abandoned or have strayed and rely on charities like Cats Protection for help. Becoming a trap, neuter and return (TNR) volunteer is one way you can make a real difference to cats in your local area. Our TNR volunteers help reduce the number of feral cats by raising awareness of our TNR programmes, setting humane traps to safely capture cats, taking them to local vets to be neutered, and hopefully returning them back to their territory. Local TNR programmes are crucial, as feral and abandoned cats present a huge challenge for communities across the UK.

Time expectation 

This is a flexible role and the hours will vary depending on the number of cats identified for specific TNR campaigns. Our current TNR volunteers spend about 2 to 3 hours per week in this role which can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed.
