Job description

We are committed to keeping people safe. Our Health & Safety volunteers play a vital role in ensuring group activities, events and premises are safe and inclusive for everyone.

We’re the MS Society – a community of people living with MS, scientists, campaigners, listeners, organisers, ambassadors and fundraisers. Our volunteers are a key part of achieving our goals and their support is vital. Join us.

About this opportunity
We are looking to recruit a Health and Safety Volunteer for the Buchan and District Group. As a Health and Safety Volunteer, you will ensure group activities, events and premises are safe and inclusive for everyone.

We are a well-established group with a good volunteer team who meet monthly to plan social and other opportunities for people affected by MS. To help us deliver a range of activities and services to support people with Multiple Sclerosis locally we really need someone to help ensure all our activities are safe and accessible.

The Health and Safety Volunteer is an important part of the team to ensure that all activities are covered by our health and safety policies, guidance and online risk assessments.

You'll receive a welcome, induction and training relevant to the role, on using our bespoke online health and safety system, ongoing support from our friendly volunteer team and staff members. This key role will ensure that current activities and events (and new ones to be developed) will continue to run safely.

We estimate the role will require approximately 1 - 2 hours a week but we are flexible to suit your availability. The role is largely home based but you will be required to attend venues as part of the role and ideally, you will occasionally be able to attend Group Coordinating Team meetings when you can. There are volunteer forums and training courses which you may wish to attend, usually held twice a year. Out of pocket expenses can be claimed in line with our expenses policy.

This is a great opportunity to gain experience within a large charity and develop your existing skills and learn new ones. We need you to get involved and help make positive changes to the lives of people affected by MS.

About you
You’ll have an interest in the MS Society and the work that we do, as well as the enthusiasm to represent both us and our values locally. You will understand the needs of people affected by MS in your area and be sympathetic to the needs and motivations of volunteers. You will need to be well organised with good attention to detail and with a willingness to use our existing system to keep people safe.

You’ll need to live in the Buchan and district area to carry out this role.

The MS Society is committed to promoting diversity. We can only offer roles to over 18s.
