Arts culture heritage volunteer roles

We are at a very exciting stage in the development of the Trust, having increased our impact significantly over the last 3 years, with new 5-year strategy in place,  a small staff team, an expert group of Trustees, and a wonderful cohort of committed volunteers.

We are particularly interested in applications from people withknowledge, skills and experience in ecology and conservation; heritage, culture and the arts; the law; safeguarding; senior leadership experience, ideally at Chief Executive level, in the charity or social enterprise sector; and/or people with a strong connection to, and understanding of, the Forest through volunteering for EFHT or one of the other community organisations who work in/or around the Forest.

Through this recruitment process we are also aiming to further diversify our Board of Trustees, to ensure it reflects the communities surrounding the Forest. We are particularly seeking applications from Black, Asian and ethnic minority candidates and from people who are disabled. 

As way of background, several Trustees who have helped lead our transformation are now stepping down as a result of work changes or moving home, and we are recruiting between 3 and 5 new Trustees with the passion, skills and experiences to steer delivery of the new strategy, committed to making the Forest accessible to all as we help protect and preserve Epping Forest now, and for generations to come.

As a Trustee you will be expected to attend 4 Trustee meetings a year as well as our Annual General meeting, and take part in other activities as your time permits. The role is voluntary and unremunerated.

NICOLA Arts invites visual artists, photographers, and creatives of all disciplines to take part in our upcoming exhibition “NO LIMITS” — a celebration of artistic freedom, individuality, and cultural diversity.

This open-themed show is designed to provide a platform for emerging and established artists to share their voice, connect with audiences, and sell their work in the heart of Central London.
All mediums are welcome: painting, sculpture, photography, digital art, mixed media, installation, collage — there are no limits to your creativity.

Selected works will be exhibited for three months, giving artists long-term exposure and the opportunity to reach collectors, art lovers, and the local creative community.

The National Heritage Science Forum connects organisations involved in heritage science research and its practical application, for the benefit of society. Heritage science brings together the arts and sciences to help us understand, care for and preserve our cultural and natural heritage - from analysing paintings at the sub-microscopic level to addressing global challenges like climate change.

NHSF is seeking four trustees to join its Board at an exciting and transformational time. The positions available are:

You would join us at a pivotal time for heritage science in the UK, with NHSF playing a leading role in a dynamic research landscape that includes a recent £80 million investment by UK Research and Innovation to establish the Arts and Humanities Research Council-led Research Infrastructure for Conservation and Heritage Science (RICHeS).

Crossness Pumping Station (overseen by the Crossness Engines Trust) is a unique and valuable museum of UK and world reknown telling the history of how the ambitious management of sewage transformed London as a city of growth and innovation in the 1860s and helped eradicate cholera. Preserved and restored by a group of enthusiasts since 1987, we are now entering a second phase of major restoration and we need visionary trustees who can help us achieve it.

This role is one of three we have created for experts in their field to help us implement a major programme over the next 5-10 years. It really is your chance to be part of our history!

As well as the usual trustee roles (outlined in the role description attached) the specific skills needed for this role include:

Role Objectives

• Acting as lead expert on the Board in relation to management of Crossness as a heritage asset.
• Advising on regulatory and policy issues in heritage buildings and assets.
• Ensuring high standards of achievement in all aspects relating to Museum Accreditation including Building restoration, Collections and Archives.

Responsibilities

• Liaising with the Restoration, Archives and other relevant teams including developing work plans.
• Overseeing funding requirements in major grant applications.
• Being part of the Building Condition Survey sub-group.
• Liaising with volunteers and suppliers on developing work plans and ensuring their completion.
• Contribute to financial and business plans to achieve the heritage asset goals of the Trust.

Candidate requirements

Essential

• Experience working in a senior heritage management role.
• Excellent understanding of the needs of heritage assets and the roles of volunteers and staff in their management.
• Understanding of key stakeholder networks and sources of information useful to the Trust.
• Excellent communication skills including with staff and volunteers as well as fellow trustees.
• An understanding of the importance of collaboration and problem-solving.
• Confident and proficient in the use of MS Office 365.
• Commitment to attend board meetings regularly and volunteer for other sub-committees as appropriate.
• Able to devote around 2-3 hours per week on preparing for meetings.
• Treating colleagues with respect and politeness.

Desirable

• Experience working in the charity sector.
• Experience as a volunteer at a similar organisation.
• Experience in Digital, Marketing and Finance would also be useful.

Who we are

artsdepot is a prominent cultural venue located in North London, specifically at 5 Nether Street, Tally Ho Corner, North Finchley. It stands as the only multi-space professional arts centre in Barnet, London’s second most populous borough, which boasts over 400,000 residents. The organisation’s vision is “A Creative Home for Everyone,” with a mission to engage every family in Barnet with a creative experience by 2027.

The venue is equipped with diverse facilities, including a 395-seat Pentland Theatre, a 151-seat Studio Theatre, three arts and education studios, a gallery, a creative research lab, a café, a bar and a free soft play area for children. About the role

The Chair will provide crucial leadership and direction to the Board of Trustees, ensuring that all Trustees are able to effectively fulfil their responsibilities. This role involves a close working partnership with the Chief Executive / Creative Director to ensure the effective implementation of Board decisions.

Key duties include:

• Acting as the leader and spokesperson of the Board, closely engaging with the Company and its activities, and representing artsdepot at external events when appropriate.
• Supporting the Chief Executive/Creative Director in fulfilling their duties.
• Serving as the decision-maker on urgent matters requiring Board authorisation that cannot await the next Board meeting, with all such decisions brought to the full Board for ratification and staying within agreed policy parameters.
• Leading and motivating the Board on specific issues, such as fundraising and advocacy.
• Providing leadership to the Board and setting its agenda.
• Ensuring the provision of accurate, timely and clear information to Trustees and assessing the effectiveness of both individual Trustees and the Board as a whole.
• Ensuring Trustees are given sufficient time to consider critical issues and realistic deadlines for decision-making.

As with all Trustee roles, the Chair will be responsible for holding the charity “in trust” for beneficiaries by ensuring artsdepot has a clear vision, mission and strategic direction, and actively pursues its charitable objects and complies with its Articles of Association.

We're looking for new Trustees to join the board of our award winning educational charity that has been turning primary school classrooms around the UK into 'pop-up' art galleries for over thirty years.  As part of our board you will help shape the approach the charity will take and its future direction.  

Magic Lantern workshops give children the opportunity to explore, discuss and bring to life famous art works, and discover the world of art from cave paintings to Cubism, Gothic to graffiti, and Turner to the Turner Prize. Our approach is designed to particularly help children who have not previously had the opportunity to engage with the arts or who might be reticent to participate in traditional lessons.  Our sessions are interactive and have elements of drama, soundscape, slow looking, problem solving and creative writing.  

We operate in several parts of England including London, the South East, the South West, the North East and Oxfordshire. We work with over 12,000 children each year and in 2019 were awarded with a JM Barrie Members' Award by Action for Children's Arts. 

We are currently looking for three new trustees to add fresh voices to our board, strengthen our collective skillset and plan for our future.  We want people who share our values and vision, are passionate about education and art, and can act as ambassadors for our work in schools.

We hold online trustee meetings four times a year on a weekday evening.  This is a voluntary role but the charity will pay for out-of-pocket expenses e.g. for travel to any in-person trustee meetings or events.  The post is a fixed term of three years with the possibility of a second term. Any successful applicant will be asked to apply for an Enhanced DBS check in the child workforce and their appointment is conditional until the full enhanced disclosure has been received by the charity. 

It is not necessary to have previous trustee, board or committee experience as training will be provided, and you do not need to have a background in education or the arts to be eligible for this role.  We would very much like our board of Trustees to look more like our community and would particularly welcome applications from underrepresented groups.

Volunteer Treasurer needed to join 6million+ Educational Trust
I am a trustee of 6million+, an amazing community-based charity that integrates creative arts with refugees and local volunteers in West Yorkshire, telling stories of refuge and delivering projects of hope.

While we have just recruited four fantastic trustees, our existing Treasurer is stepping down and we are looking for a successor to fill this role.

The turnover of the charity is small, with a turnover of around £30,000 each year. The Treasurer has responsibility for managing and overseeing the charity's financial affairs, ensuring they are legal, constitutional and follow accepted accounting practices, including working with our accountants to complete the annual accounts. On-going Treasurer responsibilities include administering payments, informing grant applications, invoicing partners for commissioned work and drawing down payments from funders.The post-holder will also be a trustee with an expectation of 6 meetings a year, probably 3 online and 3 face to face and to take an active interest in the organisation.

Outside Edge Theatre Company, which is the UK’s only theatre company and participatory arts charity focused on addiction, is recruiting our next Chair of the Board of Trustees.

For the past 25 years, we have created theatre productions about issues related to addiction and offered free drama activities to help people at-risk and affected by addiction to live healthier lives. Over the last year we supported 837 people, and they attended 504 creative activity sessions a total of 5,408 times.

Our inclusive weekly arts activities encourage service users and audiences to develop healthy habits, discover new talents and reclaim centre stage in their own lives. We provide participants with pastoral care and wraparound support, opportunities for volunteering and paid employment, and a person-centred approach to help people identify and achieve outcomes for themselves. This year, we are delivering over 400 service sessions across our regular weekly drop-in groups, masterclasses, theatre clubs and taster sessions.

In addition to our work with people in recovery, Outside Edge is a producing theatre company that makes work about issues related to addiction. This unique subject matter ranges from problematic gambling to the social and political determinants leading to drug and alcohol abuse. Since 1999 we have produced more than 60 critically acclaimed productions that have toured across London, the rest of the UK and been presented in partnership with off-West End venues.

We are currently recruiting a new Chair of the Board of Trustees to work with OETC’s Artistic Director and CEO to help shape and lead the company through our exciting next stage of development and growth.
