As an Office Volunteer for Breakthrough T1D you will be working closely with our Scotland fundraising team in our Aberdeen office. The role will be varied, and you will be supporting the team with a wide range of general administration tasks and various tasks to ensure everything is kept up-to-date and deadlines are met.
What will I be doing?
- Day-to-day administration tasks such as emails, phone-calls and filing.
- Assisting in the delivery of our 40th Anniversary Ball which includes research into finding potential sponsors and prizes.
- Managing the Scotland inbox replying to supporters’ emails.
- Creating, updating and maintaining records on Donorfy.
- Other data entry tasks.
- Assisting the wider Events team where necessary on tasks such as phone calls, monitoring inboxes, research and general admin.
- Working within the framework of relevant legislation and good practice guidelines for fundraising activity, including complying with requirements of GDPR and other regulations applicable to active events and supporter data.
- Undertaking other duties and ad-hoc tasks consistent with the post.
What skills or experience do I need?
Essential:
- Administration experience.
- Experience and confidence in speaking on the phone to suppliers and supporters.
- Experience of research for booking things for events.
- Experience of working as part of a team.
- Experience of writing emails and copy.
- Skilled at developing and maintaining internal and external working relationships at all levels.
- Ability to work well under pressure, prioritise workload and meet tight deadlines.
- Excellent organisation skills with good attention to detail.
- Experience of using a recognised database.
- Ability to develop ideas and be creative.
- Excellent presentation skills.
- Outgoing, confident, friendly, positive and professional.
Desirable:
- Experience of using social networks to communicate with supporters.
- Knowledge of fundraising.
- Interest in sporting and activity-based events.
- Knowledge of type 1 diabetes, diabetes research and Breakthrough T1D.
When do you need me?
3 – 4 hours a week, from November/December 2025 to June 2026
Breakthrough T1D normal working hours are 9.00am – 5.30pm, Monday to Friday. However, we operate a flexible working hours policy and will agree these with you in advance.
What training and support will I receive?
- We’ll send you a copy of our Volunteer Handbook, which will give you all the information you’ll need to know about volunteering with us. We’ll also ask you to sign and return a copy of our Volunteer Agreement, which sets out what we’ll do to support you, and what we expect from you, during your time volunteering with us.
- We’ll ask you to read and sign our Data Protection and Confidentiality Policy, and our Safeguarding Policy.
- You’ll receive training in any role-specific systems, and ongoing support from the Senior fundraiser and the wider Scotland Fundraising team.
- We’ll give you a laptop and a Breakthrough T1D email address to use while you’re volunteering with us.
- We’ll catch up with you regularly to check how you’re getting on and to talk through any queries you have about the role.
- We’ll also reimburse all reasonable out-of-pocket expenses in accordance with Breakthrough T1D volunteering policies.
