We’re passionate about what we do, and love giving second-hand clothing a chance of going to a good home. Our shop teams are key to raising vital funds for our work and act as incredible advocates for the rights of children both in the UK and around the world.

Volunteering in the shop

Mary's Living & Giving for Save the Children is unique - a vibrant result of the generous gifts of local individuals and companies being turned around by the skills and passions of volunteer teams, to create a destination retail experience. Selling womenswear, menswear, shoes, and bags to household goods, our shops can be found in the London villages and bring in vital funds for Save the Children.

Our Bermondsey Shop Volunteers are in the middle of it all, and there’s plenty to get involved with. You might be sorting and pricing stock, engaging with customers, ringing items through the till, creating fantastic window displays or keeping our shop floor looking organised.

It’s up to you how much you commit. We have volunteers who support for a couple of hours a week and some do more. Many people volunteer either a morning or an afternoon each week - this is something that will be discussed at the selection stage, after you’ve applied.

We welcome applications from people with a wide range of skills and experiences. You don’t need any retail or shop experience as full training will be provided. What’s important to us is that you are a team player, open to learning and to follow our policies as well as be an excellent representative for Save the Children.

We know that our shop teams are stronger when they are inclusive and representative of their communities. Everybody can make a real difference. People come to us for all sorts of reasons, from all backgrounds, and we will do what we can to find a role that works for you.

What happens next?

After you’ve filled in an application, we will invite you for an informal trial shift. It’s a great opportunity to visit the shop, meet some of our existing volunteers and have a go at some of the tasks that you would be supporting with as a shop volunteer. Hopefully allowing you to get a feel for the role and make sure it’s for you. We also ask for a couple of references (these don’t have to be formal workplace ones, just someone who has known you for over 6 months and isn’t related).

At Acorns we provide care and support for life limited or life threatened children and their families. We are a charity, so most of the care that we provide is funded through fundraising and through our shops.

To help us to continue to provide the care that we do, we are looking for fun and enthusiastic volunteers to join us in our Tewkesbury Superstore. Our shops are exciting and dynamic, with no two days being the same. From our walk-in customers, to receiving donations, and everything in between

As a Shop Volunteer with us, you will be:

• Engaging with customers
• Accepting and sorting donated stock
• Pricing donations for sale
• Working on the till

Our shops are open Monday to Saturday (some open on Sundays too) 9am to 5pm.  You can volunteer the hours that suit you, but it would be great if you could support in the shop for at least 3 hours a week.

Electrical Items Tester Volunteer -New Volunteer Oppportunity in Acorn's Children's Hospice Superstore - opening soon in Tewkesbury!

Acorns have a network of shops across the West Midlands that generate a substantial level of income to enable us to care for children and their families. Our empowered Electrical Items Tester Volunteers support by making sure that all our donated electrical items are fully functional and safe for sale. Full training will be provided and ongoing support will be given for this hands-on position.

How much time will it take? 

Our shops are open Monday to Saturday (some open on Sundays too), 9am to 5pm. You can volunteer the hours that suit you, but ideally we’ll need you to volunteer for at least 3 hours per week. •  Have an interest in electrical gadgets
•  Able to plug items in, turn them on and make sure that they function correctly 
• Able to follow guidance on testing a wide range of different electrical items 
• Willing to clean items so they are ready for sale 
• Able to identify poor quality or damaged donations for recycling

Youth Leaders work directly with young people in St John Ambulance Badger Setts and Cadet Units. By organising a mixed weekly programme, this role will support the learning and development of young people into the next generation of health citizens. Youth Leaders also help young people develop their confidence, teamwork skills, self-discipline, and generally encourage them to strive to be the best they can be, as well as supervise and support other adult volunteers in their team.

You’ll get a huge sense of satisfaction and pride delivering an essential service. It’s great for you, great for your community and great for our nation, and it requires only a small commitment of your time.

North Tyneside Carers' Centre are looking for new trustees as we commence our new 5 year strategic cycle to improve the quality of life of unpaid carers in North Tyneside. 

What will you be doing?

Established in 1994, North Tyneside Carers’ Centre is the only generic carer support service in the borough of North Tyneside providing support to young and adult carers. Carers are represented at every level of the organisation and we deliver a wide range of interventions to help carers maintain their wellbeing and have a life outside of caring.  

At the start of the pandemic 3,500 unpaid carers were registered with the service, at the end of the pandemic this had increased to over 7,000. Faced with increased demand and complexity of cases, we have to adapt to the changing environment to continue to meet the needs of carers.

Funding landscape changes, including the Integrated Care Board (ICB) and North East Combined Authority (NECA) present both challenges and opportunities for the organisation.  As the ICB looks to make 30% savings, new regional opportunities are arising with NECA, which require collaboration across a number of carer organisations.

We are excited as we commence our new 5 year strategic cycle, which sets out clear priorities and goals. We are looking for new trustees to play an important role in overseeing the governance of the organisation and driving our strategic plan.

We want to hear from anyone interested, who has the skills and experience to help us deliver our priorities. 

Time Commitment

4 - 5 hours per month to attend board meetings (1st Wednesday of the month from 4 - 5:30pm) and to respond to email communications.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for trustees with the following main areas of expertise:

• lived experience as an unpaid carer, we are particularly looking for young adult carers and working age carers to join our Board.
• Marketing and communications.
• Adult social care.

As part of our board you will offer your unique skill set to help drive the delivery of our strategic plan, as well as helping us achieve our purpose ‘To improve the quality of life of carers in North Tyneside.’

This is a vital role, helping ensure we can continue our support for the increasing number of carers accessing our services.

No one should die because they needed first aid and didn’t get it. St John Ambulance teaches people first aid so they can be the difference between life and death, and you can help us do this.

As Unit Manager you will be responsible for the overall management of your St John Ambulance Youth unit. You will do this by leading weekly meetings, organising other youth development activities and actively participating in the recruitment, training and retention of the young people and volunteers in your unit. You will ensure that they have a positive and rewarding experience in St John Ambulance, by equipping them with the necessary skills to fulfil our vision; ‘Everyone who needs it should receive first aid from those around them. No one should suffer for the lack of trained first aiders.’

This role is ideal for someone who has some management experience and wants to enhance their skills while doing invaluable work. This role is exempt from the provisions of the Rehabilitations Offenders Act.

As a Youth Unit Manager, you are required to be the leader on the weekly meetings, or get sessions covered if you are unavailable. a minimum of 2 meetings a month

We are looking for 3 successful volunteers to cover 3 different units in Nottingham

The Role

Our empowered Replenishment and Merchandising Volunteers support the team by replenishing stock on the shop floor and by merchandising it in an eye catching and engaging fashion.
