Make a difference in Kent by joining our team of trustees!

Kent Community Foundation (KCF) is looking for individuals to join our Board of Trustees who have a real passion for our county and want to make a demonstrable difference to the lives of people in our communities.

KCF is a professional grant-maker and local philanthropy advisor for Kent and Medway. We have been established for 24 years; distributing more than £60 million in grants to voluntary sector organisations across the county; supporting small charities to be sustainable and successful, and helping major donors maximise the impact of their donations.

Trustees are the volunteers who lead charities and decide how they are run; setting strategic plans, monitoring the performance, impact and sustainability of the charity and overseeing its governance. People of any age and background can be a trustee, and we're looking for people with specific experience to help us support communities in Kent. We are particularly interested in applications from people who are typically under-represented on trustee boards.

We have a comprehensive trustee induction programme, so if you have never been a trustee or on a board before, we will ensure you have all the knowledge and support you need.

Trustee: Desirable skills

We are looking for applicants to have one or more of the following:

· Lived experience of the communities we work with and the issues which arise in our county

· Experience of grant making; either as a philanthropist, grant maker or grant applicant

· Experience in working with or within social enterprises

· Experience in communications and PR

· A background in socio/economics, or connections with education in that field

· Knowledge of, and experience in promoting diversity, equality and inclusion

· Professional experience or active interest in technology, digital communications and AI

· Long term connections and networks with any of our stakeholder groups in Kent; such as philanthropists, businesses  owners, key voluntary sector influencers

We hope to recruit up to three new trustees with different experience to offer, who can give some of their time and expertise to help KCF continue to grow and develop. We have four in-person Board meetings a year, and trustees also sit on at least one of our sub-committees, which meet two to four times a year (often remotely). There are also occasional events trustees are invited to attend to promote and engage with our work.

Role Description: Treasurer

Position: Treasurer (Trustee)
Accountable to: Board of Trustees
Location: Bognor Regis/Remote
Time Commitment: 1-2 days per month

Purpose of the Role

The Treasurer is a key member of the Board of Trustees, taking the lead in overseeing the financial health of the charity. They ensure proper financial management, reporting, and compliance with legal obligations, while supporting the Board to make sound financial decisions that enable the charity to achieve its mission in reptile welfare, conservation, and education.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Leadership

• Monitor the financial standing of the charity and ensure effective financial controls are in place.

• Oversee the preparation of budgets, accounts, and financial statements.

• Ensure the Board understands the charity’s financial position and the implications of decisions.

• Chair the finance sub-committee (if applicable) and report key matters to the Board.

Compliance & Reporting

• Ensure compliance with charity law, company law (if applicable), and HMRC requirements.

• Oversee the preparation and submission of the annual report, accounts, and returns to the Charity Commission.

• Ensure financial policies and procedures are up to date and fit for purpose.

Support Fundraising & Sustainability

• Advise on the financial implications of the charity’s strategy, projects, and fundraising activities.

• Support the development of income streams and fundraising initiatives, ensuring they are financially viable.

• Monitor reserves and ensure a balance between short-term needs and long-term sustainability.

Working with Staff/Volunteers

• Liaise with staff or volunteers responsible for day-to-day financial operations (e.g. bookkeeping, invoicing, banking).

• Support the Chief Executive/Manager to ensure accurate and timely financial information is available.

• Provide guidance and training to Trustees to strengthen the Board’s financial literacy.

Person Specification

Essential Skills & Experience

• Financial qualifications or relevant experience (e.g. accountancy, bookkeeping, financial management).

• Experience of financial planning, budgeting, and reporting.

• Strong analytical skills and ability to explain complex financial information clearly.

Are you a good listener? Do you care deeply about helping others feel heard, safe, and supported? 

We’re looking for three amazing volunteers to join our Support Service team at the Charity for Action on Spiritual Abuse. This is a meaningful role where you’ll support people who’ve been hurt in religious, spiritual, or faith-based communities. 

What You’ll Be Doing 

As a Support Service Volunteer, you’ll be part of a team offering emotional support and guidance to people who’ve experienced spiritual abuse, or who have been hurt in religious, spiritual or faith-based communities.

You’ll start by arranging an initial call to listen to their story and help them figure out what kind of support they need. If they want more help, you can offer up to five follow-up calls, spaced apart fortnightly or longer. 

You’ll help people by: 

• Listening with care and compassion 
• Explaining what spiritual abuse is 
• Talking through their options if they want to report what happened 
• Helping them focus on what they need now and how to move forward 

What We’re Looking For 

You don’t need to be an expert, but we’re looking for people who: 

• Live in the UK 
• Have experience or training in listening, wellbeing, or safeguarding 
• Communicate clearly and kindly 
• Understand how abuse in faith settings can affect people — through personal experience, supporting others, or training 
• Are emotionally ready to support others (especially if you’ve been through something similar) 
• Can work well in a team and ask for help when needed 
• Have access to a computer and a private space to make calls online

The total time commitment for a Trustee is at least 1 day per month; induction and training are provided, as is support from an experienced and knowledgeable Trustee and staff team. Trustees are not paid, but expenses are covered. A DBS (criminal records check) will be required.

Citizens Advice Mid Mercia is a charity created to serve our local community of over 600,000 people across Derby City, South Derbyshire, East Staffordshire, Tamworth and surrounding areas.

RNOH Charity is a vital partner in the way the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital delivers care. Since its inception in 1997, the Charity has raised and administered millions of pounds in donations, which have funded numerous essential projects around the hospital.

We are seeking a Trustee with marketing or fundraising experience.

What will you be doing?

This is an exciting opportunity to join as a Trustee of RNOH Charity. Our Trustees play an important role in making sure that the charity is run in the interests of those we support. They strategically oversee the management and administration of the organisation. We are particularly interested in hearing from marketing or fundraising professionals with experience in developing successful fundraising or marketing campaigns.

In this role, you will:

• Provide strategic guidance on the planning and execution of marketing and fundraising campaigns, with a focus on channel strategy and donor engagement across digital, social and traditional media.
• Advise on market and competitive analysis to inform campaign development and positioning.
• Bring expertise in successful campaign delivery and marketing best practice reflecting appropriate legal and ethical considerations.

Ideally you will have experience of operating at executive director level or equivalent. If you have a track record of delivering successful marketing or fundraising initiatives, we would like to hear from you.

We're organising a new support group in Hull and are looking for a group facilitator. Would you be interested in taking on this role?

The primary purpose of this flexible volunteering role is to support us as peer support group facilitators for support groups for those affected by brain tumours.

• Facilitating peer support group sessions

Home visitors

Join our fantastic volunteer team to help us improve the welfare & quality of life for the cats & kittens in our care.

Our home visit volunteers help us to assess each home environment and a families circumstances to ensure our cats are suitably matched to their new family. This is a vital step in our rehoming process to ensure our cats get the happy ending they deserve.​

You can dedicate as much or as little of your free time to this role- picking up outstanding home visits as and when you can.

This role can also be done remotely (from home) if necessary or preferred.

We rely on our fantastic team of dedicated volunteers to continue our work and would love for you to join us.

We are looking for cat loving people with a little free time and lots of ideas to join our fundraising team!
 

This role includes all aspects of fundraising including organising and taking charge of ideas/ events with the support of the wider team and helping out at events.

Fostering

Caring for cats/ kittens in your home while they undergo rehabilitation and wait to be adopted doesn't cost you a penny. We provide full training & support along the way.

Transport Volunteers

We are always looking for transport volunteers to join our team. This role involves transporting animals, equipment and donations too and from various locations in and around the York area. We may also occasionally need help transporting cats and equipment from further afield. 

Learning and curriculum designers wanted to help East London Waterworks Park deliver its environmental learning goals.

East London Waterworks Park is a volunteer-led charity that has won a 2024 New London Architecture award and raised £2m towards buying land from the Department for Education to transform the 14-acre Thames Water Depot on Lea Bridge Road on the border of Waltham Forest and Hackney, into a new biodiverse park with natural swimming ponds, forest schools and community spaces. 

We are looking for volunteers to develop learning content and resources, such as lesson plans and educational materials, to support our environmental learning goals. This role will focus on creating school-friendly resources for our website and collaborating with educators to enhance our offerings.

The role would include:

• Developing online learning resources for our website (on-going project)
• Designing or tailoring existing lesson plans and activities for schools 
• Supporting the creation of ELWP’s Under 18s volunteering policy
• Supporting outreach efforts to promote ELWP’s existing learning programmes

We're looking for people to lead on these projects and facilitate the direction of the learning working group.

The Learning Circle currently meets monthly on a Wednesday evening at 8pm for an hour on Google Meet and spends voluntary time outside of the meeting completing agreed tasks remotely.

Ideal candidates have experience in curriculum design, teaching, or educational resource development. Creativity, strong writing skills, and an understanding of outdoor or environmental education will be valuable. Our roles are quite flexible. We hope that people bring radical imagination, peace with nature, and courageous inclusiveness to the role.  

Your support will help young people and learners improve their environmental knowledge of design and research as well as contributing to our community-owned park. This will in turn provide a sense of stewardship over the land once the park is created and student's ideas have been built into the park. Creating learning projects with educational institutions will also help our charity with the strategy to buy the land through showing the value of our environmental education programme before we create the park. 

You will have a significant impact on the creation of a new biodiverse community-owned park with free access natural swimming ponds. By volunteering in this role, you will help shape the future of East London Waterworks Park as a community-led environmental learning space. This will also help our charity with the strategy to buy the land through showing the value of our environmental education programme before we create the park. Volunteering for Sense

Sense is a leading disability charity with extensive knowledge and expertise in delivering personalised, creative and flexible support for disabled people with complex needs. Our tailored approach ensures that every person is empowered to live fully at every stage of life.

Due to the nature of the role, we require all applicants to be aged 16 or over. You must have a UK address to volunteer with Sense.

What your role will involve

You’ll get the opportunity to get involved in a wide range of activities, including:

• Welcoming and assisting customers, providing great customer service, helping create a wonderful shopping experience.
• Receiving donated items from the public, thanking them for their support.
• Sorting, steaming and preparing donations for sale.
• Helping to display stock in eye-catching and exciting ways.
• Keeping the shop floor clean, safe and tidy.
• Talking to customers about Sense and the work we do. 

When you’re ready, we’ll provide you with additional training to:

• Serve customers on the till in a warm and friendly way.
• Put sales through the till, packing them and thanking the customer for shopping with us.
• Talk to customers about Gift Aid and other fundraising initiatives.

If you’re interested in taking on additional responsibilities, you can train to become a Key Volunteer, helping the shop manager by:

• Helping supervise the shop and other volunteers.
• Supporting the shop manager to make sure customers have a great experience.
• Opening and closing the shop when needed.
• Cashing up at the end of the day.

The Trustee Board meets four times a year, generally during the week between 4pm – 7pm. In addition, Trustees are expected to become active members of a sub-committee. Board papers are distributed in advance to allow Trustees to prepare for each meeting.

Ideal Trustees will:

* Have personal integrity and be able to demonstrate a passion and commitment to National Star

* Prepare and participate actively in meetings

* Work collaboratively with fellow Trustees and Governors, demonstrating empathy and awareness of the needs of others

* Have good communication skills, tact and diplomacy

* Have experience, or a willingness to learn, about strategic thinking and risk

* Have knowledge, or a willingness to learn, about issues affecting people with disabilities and the specialist education sector

* Be prepared to commit time to conduct the role well, including travel and attending events out of office hours.

Our partner is a fast-growing climate charity using law, policy and partnerships to drive ambitious climate action. They work with governments, civil society and businesses to accelerate the transition to a fair, sustainable, net-zero future.

They are seeking a Finance Trustee to strengthen their Board’s oversight during a period of growth and increasing international complexity. Candidates should be qualified or part-qualified accountants with strong financial management and strategic skills, and a genuine interest in climate action and sustainability. Prior charity experience is helpful but not essential.

As Finance Trustee, you will help ensure effective financial oversight, compliance and risk management; advise the Board and senior team on financial strategy and sustainability; support audit preparation; and liaise with the Finance Manager and external auditors. You will also contribute more broadly to governance and strategic decision-making as the organisation continues to expand across the UK and Europe.

The Board meets quarterly (three online and one in-person meeting in London each year). Trustees are expected to commit around 1-2 days per month, including occasional ad-hoc support to the COO or Finance Manager.
