FareShare Greater Manchester is looking for volunteer Driver's Assistants to join our busy friendly delivery team with redistributing tonnes of surplus food a month to charities and community initiatives across Greater Manchester.
FareShare is a national charity fighting food poverty and global warming by tackling food surplus. We source overstocked food from retailers and manufacturers and engage many volunteers to help re-distribute it to over 220 frontline charities and community groups across Greater Manchester. These groups, in turn, provide meals to vulnerable people experiencing food poverty, individuals who are homeless, families, and people who are unemployed or socially isolated. This food would otherwise have gone to waste, so we are simultaneously supporting people in need and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Key responsibilities
Working closely with the driver of a temperature-controlled 3.5 tonne Mercedes Sprinter van to deliver surplus food orders to the premises of the benevolent projects we support.
Loading and unloading the vehicle and carrying out a range of tasks, from basic vehicle checks to delivery administration.
The required skills and attributes are:
-
Reliability and ability to commit to pre-agreed volunteer shifts (ESSENTIAL)
-
Physical fitness, to take on moving and handling of food orders
-
Ability to follow procedures and instructions
-
Good verbal communication skills
-
Interest in the work of FareShare Greater Manchester and our values
-
High respect for Health & Safety procedures and standards
In return you will gain:
Career and CV advice and support
A reference for future employers
Reimbursement of travel and lunch expenses
The opportunity to give practical help to fight food poverty and reduce food waste (and associated CO2 emissions)
The opportunity to meet like-minded people and make new friends
Our operating hours are Monday - Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm.
Driver and Driver’s Assistant shifts begin at 8:30am.
We welcome volunteers who can commit to one day a week.
The days and rota hours of volunteering are agreed around your availability.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
You must be resident in the UK and living in Greater Manchester, or within easy commuting distance of our base, in order to volunteer with us. There are no exceptions to this rule. This is because we require volunteers to be able to reliably commit to regular shifts for some of our roles. We are unable to offer sponsorship for overseas applicants.
Know someone else who might be interested in volunteering with us?
Please pass our details on to them as we always welcome new people on our teams. :)
As a leading food charity to tackle hunger, our aim is to help tackle the food poverty issue in Greater Manchester.

Martlets, Chestnut Tree House and St Barnabas House have collection tins hosted by a wide variety of businesses across Worthing, Sussex, Brighton and Hove and surrounding areas. Our tins continue to play an important role in raising money and awareness for the hospices so that we can continue to provide specialist care.
These tins need to be collected, replaced, and returned to our fundraising offices or shops on a regular basis. With collections expected to be completed on a 6-8 week cycle.
We are looking for friendly, reliable people to help us with this important fundraising and community liaison role.
You will be the face of the Fundraising team in your locality, representing the hospices when collecting. This is a chance to involve yourself with the community by building a relationship with our collection tin hosts and keeping them up to date with any news from us.
This is the perfect opportunity for anyone looking for a flexible volunteering role to fit around other commitments. We can discuss potential rounds based on where you live and an appropriate distance to travel.

• Signposting and support: directing families affected by the condition to organisations that can offer support, advice and guidance and by providing access to our peer-to-peer programme. We do not, however, provide advocacy.
We currently have a vacancy on our Trustee Board for an individual with experience in fundraising and income generation. • Supporting the development of sustainable income streams, including grants, corporate partnerships, individual giving, and community fundraising.
• Providing ad-hoc input on subjects raised by the Trustee, staff, and volunteer teams.
• Voting on grant applications from medical professionals and clinical researchers. Trustee would also be able to participate in specific projects if they wished to.
Required skills and experience:

• Experience of working in partnership with healthcare or other relevant organisations or programmes.

• Attendance at quarterly Fundraising and Risk Group meetings (1.5 hours, evening).
• Attendance at two 1-2-1 meetings per year with the Chair of Trustees.
• Participation in the AGM and other relevant meetings as needed.
• Timely responses to communications from Trustees, staff, and volunteers.
• Completion of mandatory online training modules. Term and remuneration
• The initial term is 1–3 years, which can be extended by agreement.

Who We Are
MINDSET Charity is a brand new start-up, volunteer‑run organisation dedicated to transforming men’s lives across England. We support men on their journeys of mental wellbeing and self‑improvement through workshops, creative programmes, community‑based activities, and online resources and groups.
We are building a movement of resilience, dignity, and brotherhood. To protect the men we serve and the volunteers who support them, we are now seeking a committed Safeguarding Lead to ensure our charity operates with the highest standards of safety, integrity, and care.
The Role of Safeguarding Lead
As part of our Safeguarding Team, you will:
-
Ensure MINDSET Charity has robust safeguarding policies, procedures, and good practice in place across all programmes and platforms.
-
Lead on safeguarding training, ensuring every volunteer is confident, informed, and equipped to recognise and respond to concerns.
-
Oversee safeguarding disclosures, ensuring they are handled promptly, sensitively, and in line with statutory guidance.
-
Build strong working relationships with safeguarding partners across England, including Local Authority Safeguarding Teams, the Police, and Social Care.
-
Provide ongoing advice, guidance, and reassurance to volunteers, helping them feel supported and safe in their roles.
-
Champion a culture of vigilance, dignity, and protection throughout the charity.
This is a volunteer role, but your leadership will be central to the safety, trust, and credibility of our entire movement.
Who We’re Looking For
We welcome applications from individuals with experience or strong interest in safeguarding, social care, youth work, mental health, or community support.
Experience in safeguarding roles, risk management, or working with vulnerable adults is valuable — but what matters most is your commitment to safety, your calm and compassionate approach, and your ability to act with integrity and clarity.
If you believe in protecting people, upholding dignity, and ensuring safe spaces for growth, you will be a vital part of our mission.
Why Join Us
-
Play a foundational role in shaping the safeguarding culture of a national movement.
-
Ensure volunteers and participants are protected, supported, and empowered.
-
Build meaningful partnerships with safeguarding agencies across England.
-
Help create safe, dignified environments where men can grow, heal, and thrive.
-
Work alongside passionate volunteers united by vision, purpose, and brotherhood.
