Main Duties and Objectives:

• Lead the strategic and operational financial planning of the organisation by analysing and reporting on financial performance and risk management, ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory financial reporting requirements
• Ensure that the organisation is financially sound by advising on the best path of growth and assisting in organisation-wide forecasting and budgetary planning
• Develop and manage financial systems and control, using the accounting software Xero and ensure that all controls are adhered to at all times
• Oversee payroll, internal audit and tax functions, as well as the preparation of the organisation's financial accounts to ensure that these are presented and filed accurately and on time
• Provide leadership in applying for pre-seed funding from impact investors with the aim of financing our revenue-generating initiatives in line with our strategic objectives as a Social Enterprise
• Help to define market relevant value propositions for consulting services to generate revenue for the organisation
• Take responsibility for monitoring cash flow and expenditure, maintaining a healthy financial position, as well as engaging with investors and enhancing investor confidence
• Participate in the development of business planning tools to steer the organisation towards long-term financial health and sustainability
• Contribute fully to the development of organisation strategy across all areas of the business, challenging assumptions and decision-making as appropriate and providing financial analysis and guidance on all activities, plans, targets and business drivers
• Manage the life cycle of individuals within the team from pre-recruitment to exit, including performance management processes
• Ensure that team members are given opportunities for training and career development by working with HR to support the capacity building planning

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

Essential

• Fully qualified accountant with over 10 years of senior level managerial experience in finance
• Proficiency in accounting software and accounting principles
• Track record of providing financial advice and support to help senior executives make key decisions
• Demonstrated leadership ability, including the ability to build and develop a team of highly motivated and well qualified staff/volunteers to achieve results
• Ability to actively take initiative and help set things up in a start-up environment

HealthProm is a UK based charity supporting vulnerable children, women, and families disadvantaged by poor health, disability, and social exclusion. We work in Eastern Europe, Central Asia and Afghanistan and with migrant communities from the region in the UK.

Main Responsibilities and Duties

• Ensure that SEED and its representatives function within all legal and regulatory frameworks continually striving for best practice in governance.

· Comply with SEED’s Code of Conduct and policies, providing leadership on its value base and organisational behaviour, including safeguarding, human resources and financial management.

· Work alongside fellow Trustees and the Senior Management Team in developing SEED’s strategic direction, promoting and developing this through good governance and clear strategic planning. To evaluate progress made towards achieving the strategic objectives.

• Ensure that SEED operates within its Charitable Objectives and organisational strategy in order that its work remains focussed and makes the greatest impact to those it serves.

· Act as a counter-signatory on charity cheques and any applications for funds.

· Ensure the effective and efficient administration of SEED including having appropriate policies and procedures in place. These policies and procedures are reviewed and signed off by the Trustee Board.

· Ensure that SEED has robust safeguarding policy and procedures in place and that safeguarding is embedded across the organisation

· Safeguard the good name and reputation of SEED, acting in the best interest of the charity, staff and beneficiaries at all times.

· Promote the work of SEED externally seeking opportunities that might further the work and visibility of the Charity.

·  Support the Managing Director in leading the Charity, providing advice and practical help and participating in their annual evaluation.

· Maintain absolute confidentiality about all sensitive or confidential information received through carrying out the duties of a Trustee.

· Remain open and accessible to SEED’s staff through occasional communication and site visits.

Accountability:

As a Trustee you are responsible and liable for the governance and functioning of the charity and are accountable in varying degrees to a variety of stakeholders including: service users, members, funders, the Charity Commission, and Companies House.

SEED Trustees should uphold the fiduciary duty required of all charity trustees to act in the best interests of both current and future beneficiaries of the charity, being held personally liable for any breach of that duty.

Support regarding this is given by fellow Trustees, the Managing Director and the Senior Management team.

Required skills & experience:

The successful applicant will:

• Demonstrate a passion for and sound knowledge of development and/or conservation issues facing least developed countries such as Madagascar.

• Demonstrate sound knowledge and keen interest in at least one of SEED’s core areas (community health; sustainable livelihoods; environmental conservation) or in a key functional area (management, finance, marketing).

• Have a reasonable level of understanding of legal, financial, audit and other regulatory requirements of a charity, ideally through experience as a trustee.

• Show commitment to SEED and have sufficient time and willingness to contribute effectively to board proceedings and sub committee work.

• Be able to make quick and sound decisions based on an analysis of information presented to them.

• Have the confidence to both advocate for or challenge ideas and can remain independent of any influence from other organisations or individuals.

• Be able to work effectively as a member of a team and independently.

• Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to SEED’s Code of Conduct and values and be a good ambassador for the organisation at all times.

• Demonstrate the ability, social skills and confidence to give clear guidance and support to other Trustees or members of staff in respect of the philosophy and procedures of SEED in order to protect the reputation of the NGO.

Global Girl Project (GPP) is looking to bring on a new Trustee to join our Board. We are looking for an engaged, entrepreneurial and committed individual to join our Board and contribute to the mission of GGP. Our mission is to build an ecosystem dedicated to mobilising socially-minded and community driven girls to become leaders for their families, communities, countries and the world.

Our Trustees are highly-valued members of our team and play a huge part in the impact of our organisation. Seven women currently sit on our international Board, with members from or based in South Africa, Kenya, Dubai, US and the UK. We strongly value diversity and we are looking to fill this vacancy with an individual with personal or family ties to the Global South.

In addition, as identified by our recent Board Skills Audit we are looking for an individual with one or more of the following areas of expertise

• Previous Charity Board experience, with a solid understanding of duties and best practices in governance and compliance 

• Accountancy skills and financial management experience

• Understanding of mandated reporting requirements with the Charity Commission of England and Wales.

To monitor the integrity of the financial and operational performance of the organisation; To provide trustees assurance of the in-year delivery of financial targets. 

The key responsibilities will be;

• The Annual Report and Accounts - submission to HMRC

• Monthly budget and forecasting and sharing updates at Board meeting

• The integrity of the charity’s financial reporting ensuring compliance in line with The Charity Commission guidelines

Commitment

• Ensure you are timely in your contributions and responses to communications and actions

  • Actively contribute to discussions and strategy decisions - both during and between meetings (email and whatsapp) 

  • Reply to smaller requests -  such as an email to arrange a meeting, or answer a question within 3 working days and longer pieces of work (say that require 2+ hours of your time) within two weeks, although sooner is always welcome and keeps things moving. 

  • Proactively manage timelines ensuing the team and board are aware of any deadline, change in circumstances or planned absences (such as holidays)

• Where relevant, provide guidance, advice and contributions to the organisation using a specialised skill sets

• Ensure you are familiar with the GGP Constitution, strategy and Charity Commission status

• Be familiar with the organisation budget and actively engage in financial risk management as part of board meetings. 

• Maintain confidentiality of private information of the organisation and staff

• Agree that Global Girl Project’s intellectual property is owned by the organisation and shall not be shared publicly or in other positions.

• Ensure GGP meets our targets and objectives (as set out in our strategic plan) and is operating at its maximum potential

Raising Futures Kenya supports young people in Kenya to become self-reliant and live free from poverty, through technical vocational training and business skills courses, and specialised support such as counselling.

With three Trustees coming to the end of their term this year we are looking for skilled, enthusiast, committed individuals who are passionate about what we do, to become part of our Trustee team.

We are recruiting 2 new members to the BBC’s Charity Appeals Advisory Committee (AAC) which is made up of independent experts from the charitable sector.  The AAC is a voluntary body which advises and supports the BBC’s Executive Board in matters relating to good governance and effectiveness of BBC charity appeals.

Role Responsibility

AAC members advise on policy, scrutiny, the allocation of broadcasting time and the strategic development of the BBC’s relationship to appeals. These include BBC Children in Need, Comic Relief, the Radio 4 Appeal, BBC One Lifeline, appeals in the Nations and English Regions, appeals on behalf of the Disasters Emergency Committee and other projects where funds are raised for charities.

We’re keen to hear from people who are, or who have been in a senior leadership role in a charity and who can bring expertise in charity governance and management. In particular we’re looking for people with specialist knowledge in one of the following sectors:
