Security Support Volunteer - IT Team

London, Greater London (On-site)
Unpaid role, expenses paid
Voluntary
Job description

As an Office Volunteer at Prostate Cancer UK, you'll play a key role in helping us to achieve our mission: ensuring that no man dies of prostate cancer. You'll provide support on a variety of non-time-sensitive tasks, helping the IT team to work more efficiently and effectively so we can make an even bigger difference.

In return, you'll be welcomed into a friendly, collaborative environment as a valued member of the team. You'll have opportunities to build your skills and gain hands-on experience, deepening your understanding of the charity sector and seeing first-hand how your efforts support life-changing work.

IN THIS ROLE YOU’LL...

  • Create and maintain spreadsheets and trackers to support security administration.
  • Gather information from internal sources to update logs and registers accurately.
  • Carry out basic checks for consistency and completeness and flag gaps for review.
  • Prepare and organise documents and evidence packs for internal reviews and audits.
  • Support ad-hoc reviews and awareness activities as agreed with the team.
  • Work within clear boundaries: you won’t be expected to make risk decisions or approve or change access permissions.

AS A PROSTATE CANCER UK VOLUNTEER YOU’LL...

  • Be a valued part of our community, helping us achieve our vision of a future where no man dies of prostate cancer.
  • Represent Prostate Cancer UK with empathy, respect and integrity.
  • Embrace and promote our values and behaviours and follow our policies and processes.
  • Actively support our commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and anti-racism – helping us create safer, more inclusive spaces for everyone we work with.
  • Always have a named person for contact and support.
  • Receive an induction and training appropriate to your role.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR…

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Interested in IT, cyber security or information security (no formal qualifications required).
  • Comfortable using everyday IT tools (Word, Excel, Teams, etc.).
  • Organised, reliable and confident following straightforward instructions.
  • Accurate, with a good eye for detail.
  • Respectful of sensitive or confidential information, and able to work responsibly with guidance.
  • Keen to learn (this role is well-suited to someone studying an IT-related course or exploring a career change).
  • A team player.

Previous admin or office experience is welcome but not essential – we will provide you with all the necessary training and support.

WHAT YOU’LL GAIN

  • The chance to make a real difference to those affected by prostate cancer.
  • A warm, inclusive and supportive community where you’ll be valued.
  • Access to training and resources to help you in your role.
  • A chance to develop practical office and data skills.
  • Experience working as part of a supportive and friendly team.
  • Ongoing support and regular check-ins from the Volunteer Experience Team.

YOUR VOLUNTEERING COMMITMENT

This is a voluntary and flexible role. We ask for up to 1 day per week (around 8 hours). We can accommodate either 1 full day or 2 half days between Tuesday and Thursday.

Your main contact: James Nelson, Senior IT Operations Manager

Location: On-site, Prostate Cancer UK Office, London Bridge

Expenses: We’ll reimburse reasonable out-of-pocket expenses in line with our policy.

OUR COMMITMENT TO YOU

  • We will make volunteering opportunities accessible and flexible
  • We will be aware of barriers to volunteering
  • We will recognise not all volunteers are the same
  • We will actively listen and not make assumptions
