Why Does Roots Academy Exist?

Crisis of Faith: 1 in 4 young Muslims are leaving the religion due to various factors, primarily the pervasive anti-religious content and temptations they encounter online and offline. 

Roots Academy exists to bridge this gap by providing a structured and transformative Islamic education that speaks directly to the needs and challenges of young Muslims today, delivered in an engaging and accessible form that removes barriers to access and provokes thought and action.

Role Summary.

Role Overview

The Instructional Quality Assessor supports the continued growth and development of Roots instructors by reviewing workshop delivery and assessing teaching quality using the established QA system and framework.

The reviewer provides clear, constructive, and actionable feedback to help instructors strengthen their teaching, engagement, delivery, and overall effectiveness with students on university campuses. The role is intended to be developmental—identifying strengths while highlighting practical areas for continued improvement.

Review Commitment: Approximately three workshop reviews per month, covering one workshop/campus per review, with feedback documented through the QA framework.

The overall goal is to maintain a consistent standard of teaching across campuses while helping each instructor continually develop and grow as an effective educator.

Key tasks

• Review assigned instructor workshops (in-person or via recordings) and evaluate delivery using the established QA framework and criteria.

• Document clear, constructive, and actionable feedback, highlighting both strengths and areas for improvement.

• Identify specific opportunities to help instructors improve their teaching, student engagement, communication, and classroom presence - through seminars or training workshops. 

• Develop Professional Development Plans to monitor the progress and help instructors grow as mentors for students. 

What we’re looking for

• Experience or a strong background in education, pedagogy, teaching, or teacher development.

• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education or a related field is considered a strong asset.

• Experience teaching or working within Islamic educational environments, particularly with youth or university-aged students.

• Some level of formal or traditional Islamic studies training is preferred.

• Previous experience in teacher evaluation, instructional coaching, classroom observation, or Quality Assurance (QA) is considered an asset.

• Strong ability to observe and assess teaching practices and provide clear, constructive, and actionable feedback.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to provide feedback professionally and respectfully.
