Job description

We are looking for individuals to widen the pool of people that we can call upon to be a part of the Methodist Church work specifically within Discipline. The Part 11 Complaints and Discipline process works to hold people accountable for their conduct and bring about resolutions in order to do this. The role consists of either presenting the charges on behalf of the Methodist Church against an individual or to support an individual who has charges against them.

About you

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is either a lay person who is a member or a presbyter in good standing of the Methodist Church
  • Has a legal background
  • Understands the standing orders in relation to the Discipline process
  • Has an awareness of the variety of contexts that exist within the Methodist Church
  • Has a proven ability to handle sensitive material/ conversations and work within confidentiality of the process
  • Can work with a team of people

Duration

On-going position, minimum of 3 years, and names are put forward annually to the Conference for approval.

Time Commitment

Two advocates are required to be offered per discipline case which average about 3 per year.

Closing date : 21st May, 2026

Shortlisting: 27th May, 2026

Interviews: 2nd and 3rd of June (online)

All offer of appointment are conditional up on satisfactory DBS checks by the Methodist Church.
