Learning & Teaching Support Volunteer

At Thrive, we are working towards creating a future where people with ill health, disability or disadvantage experience the life-changing benefits of gardening and nature. We:

• Deliver life-changing Social and Therapeutic Horticulture programmes.

• Train practitioners and advance professional standards in Social and Therapeutic Horticulture.

• Provide gardening advice for people living with health conditions or disabilities.

• Advocate to get Therapeutic Horticulture recognised and more widely utilised.

We’re looking for someone available for a minimum of 5 hours each week, to support our Training, Education and Consultancy team to provide quality learning experiences to existing and aspiring practitioners of Social and Therapeutic Horticulture.

Based at our Reading centre at Beech Hill, this role may involve tasks such as:

• Creating, reviewing and refining learning resources across our online and classroom courses.
• Identifying and reviewing other learning opportunities supportive of our learners.
• Enter evaluation data onto system.
• Photocopying and preparing resource packs for training courses.

We are looking for someone who has:

• An understanding of Teaching and Learning practices.
• Good computer literacy - knowledge of Word and Excel.
• Good organisational skills.
• An ability to create effective learning resources.
• Problem solving skills and an ability to work on their own initiative.
• Strong communication skills.

We will provide training, support and supervision as follows:

• A full introduction to the site and to the tasks we need you to do.
• Training in relation to Health & Safety and any other training relevant to the tasks you do.
• Appropriate in-house staff training.
• A review meeting with your named contact at least once every six months.

There are other general responsibilities and expectations set out in the Volunteer Agreement which you will need to sign before starting work with us.
