Job description

VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR / LEAD - VOLUNTEER WANTED

BUILD THE SQUAD. CREATE THE CULTURE. POWER THE MOVEMENT.

London is moving fast.

We're moving with it.

URBAN YOUTH is a new, volunteer-powered youth work charity bringing youth work, creativity, opportunity and community into the heart of London.

We don't want to sit inside a building waiting for young people to come to us.

WE GO WHERE THEY ARE.

  • Empty spaces.
  • Community spaces.
  • Public spaces.
  • Creative spaces.
  • Neighbourhoods.

THE CITY IS OUR PLAYGROUND.

But we can't do it without people.

WE'RE BUILDING THE SQUAD.

And we're looking for someone who wants to help build it from the ground up.

WE WANT YOU!!!

We're looking for an energetic, organised and people-focused volunteer to take up the amazing role of Volunteer Coordinator / Lead to help us create, develop and grow our volunteering programme.

You'll play a BIG part in creating the experience people have when they first discover Urban Youth — and the culture that keeps them coming back.

From “I want to get involved” to “I'm proud to be part of this team.”

YOU'LL HELP MAKE THAT HAPPEN.

YOUR MISSION

Help us build an amazing volunteer community that is:

  1. WELCOMING.
  2. INCLUSIVE.
  3. POSITIVE.
  4. ENERGETIC.
  5. TEAM-SPIRITED.
  6. PURPOSE-DRIVEN.

You'll help lead the volunteer journey from beginning to end:

  1. RECRUIT — Help us find brilliant people who want to get involved.
  2. WELCOME — Give new volunteers a great first experience of Urban Youth.
  3. ONBOARD — Help people understand who we are, what we do and how they can get involved.
  4. TRAIN — Help develop and coordinate inductions, training and learning opportunities.
  5. CONNECT — Bring volunteers together and help build genuine relationships.
  6. ENGAGE — Keep our volunteers connected, motivated and involved.
  7. DEVELOP — Help volunteers discover new skills, experiences and opportunities.
  8. CELEBRATE — Recognise the people who make Urban Youth happen.

WHAT WILL YOU ACTUALLY DO?

You'll help us:

  • Build and develop our volunteer programme from scratch

  • Create our volunteer recruitment journey

  • Help write and promote volunteer opportunities

  • Recruit volunteers across London

  • Welcome and onboard new members of the squad

  • Help create volunteer inductions and training

  • Develop a positive and inclusive volunteer culture

  • Keep in regular contact with volunteers

  • Organise volunteer meetings, catch-ups and engagement activities

  • Help volunteers find opportunities that match their interests and skills

  • Support volunteer development and progression

  • Listen to volunteers and gather their ideas and feedback

  • Help recognise and celebrate volunteer contributions

  • Build a strong sense of community and belonging

  • Keep volunteer information and records organised

  • Work alongside our Youth Programme, Operations and Leadership teams

  • Help us continuously improve the volunteer experience

And much, much more.

Because we're building this together.

THIS ROLE IS ABOUT PEOPLE.

What we really need is someone who gets people.

  • Someone who can make people feel welcome.
  • Someone who can bring people together.
  • Someone who can spot potential.
  • Someone who knows how to build a team.
  • Someone who can create energy.
  • Someone who genuinely cares about making volunteering a brilliant experience.

If people naturally gravitate towards you, we want to hear from you.

BRING YOUR...

  1. ENERGY.
  2. IDEAS.
  3. ORGANISATION.
  4. PEOPLE SKILLS.
  5. CREATIVITY.
  6. EXPERIENCE.
  7. EMPATHY.
  8. ENTHUSIASM.
  9. BRING YOU.

WHY URBAN YOUTH?

Because we're building something different.

  • A youth charity that doesn't wait behind a front door.
  • A charity that goes into communities.
  • A charity that uses creativity, connection and opportunity to help young people discover what they're capable of.

And we're building it with people.

Volunteers won't be an afterthought at Urban Youth.

THEY ARE THE HEART OF IT.

You'll have the opportunity to help create the culture, systems and community that could shape Urban Youth for years to come.

WHAT YOU'LL GET

This isn't just about what you give.

You'll become part of the founding team and have the opportunity to:

  • Help build a brand-new volunteer programme
  • Shape our culture from day one
  • Meet brilliant people
  • Develop your leadership skills
  • Build experience in volunteer management
  • Learn about youth work and community development
  • Get involved in real projects
  • Try new things
  • Share your ideas
  • Build your network
  • Help create something you're genuinely proud of

And most importantly...

YOU'LL BELONG TO THE SQUAD.

GOT A FEW HOURS?

Perfect.

We know people have:

  • Lives.
  • Jobs.
  • Studies.
  • Families.
  • Other commitments.

That's why we're building flexible volunteering around real people.

  • A few hours a week.
  • A few hours a month.
  • Regular involvement.
  • Flexible involvement.

We'll work with you to make it work.

THIS IS YOUR CHANCE TO GET IN EARLY.

Urban Youth is at the beginning of its journey.

The volunteer programme hasn't been built yet.

YOU GET TO HELP BUILD IT.
