Be Enriched - recent recipients of The Kings Award for Voluntary Servie 2025 - are seeking an inspirational Chairperson to lead our Board of Trustees and guide our next phase of strategic growth. We use food as a tool to bring people together, cultivate joy and dignity whilst fighting food waste and nourishing the community.

What will you be doing?

The Chair plays a pivotal role in guiding the board, ensuring the charity is governed effectively and remains true to our vision and mission. With an inclusive leadership style, the Chair will foster a collaborative atmosphere within the board, while offering both support and constructive challenge to the CEO. Additionally, the Chair serves as a passionate ambassador for the charity, representing its values and goals.

Since 2013, we have been dedicated to enriching our communities through food. Our work tackles critical issues head-on: alleviating food poverty, combating social isolation, and empowering individuals through practical skills training. We believe in the power of food to bring people together, share knowledge, and cultivate lasting connections. 

As Chair, you will play a pivotal role in steering our ambitious strategy, working closely with an active and committed Board and our dedicated staff team. This is a unique opportunity to leverage your leadership skills to strengthen our impact and ensure the long-term sustainability of our vital community services. 

Scope of Responsibilities 

Governance and Strategic Leadership 

• Provide leadership to the board in the establishment of organisations overall strategy and policies.

• Direct boards policy-making process and guidance to ensure strategic alignment. 

• Monitor decisions taken by the board to ensure effective execution. 

Board Management 

• Build and develop the board by leading efforts in recruiting new trustees and ensure the board is diverse, skilled, and working cohesively. Foster a culture of mutual respect and collaboration. 

• Plan annual schedule of board meetings and establish agendas. 

• Chair and facilitate board meetings. 

Representation and Advocacy 

• Act as Ambassador for Be Enriched at external events, meetings and functions when required. 

• Actively participate in and show support for the charity's events and projects, demonstrating leadership and commitment to its mission. 

Executive Liaison and Oversight 

• Liaise closely with CEO to maintain strategic overview and provide appropriate support. 

• Serve on senior appointment panels as needed.

Formal Procedures 

• Act as the final stage adjudicator in formal disciplinary and grievance procedures, in accordance with the organisation’s policies.

Essential Qualities

• Proven experience as a trustee, with a passion for governance and making a difference.  Prior Chair experience is welcome but not required.

• Advocate – be able and willing to champion Be Enriched’s work through personal networks, social media, and other channels.

• Be proactive and responsive – as a small charity, there are times when issues arise that require the Chair's guidance, support, or approval.

Responsibilities Of All Trustees 

• Support and provide advice on Be Enriched’s visions mission and goals. 

• Ensure the effective, efficient, and prudent administration of the organisations.

• Safeguard the organisations financial stability and ensure proper investment of funds. 

• Ensure key risks are being identified, monitored and controlled effectively. 

• Provide support and challenge the CEO in the exercise of their delegated authority and affairs. 

• Attend quarterly board meetings (online) and AGM (in-person), adequately prepared for group discussion.

• Use independent judgement, acting legally and in good faith to promote and protect Be Enriched’s interest, to the exclusion of their own personal and/or third-party interest.

• Maintain a thorough and informed understanding of the organisation's activities, as well as the broader external issues that affect its work.

• Accept collective responsibility, as part of the board, for the actions and decisions of the organisations and its trustees. 

• Participate in additional tasks as required, such as providing expert advice or assisting with fundraising initiatives.

Terms of Appointment 

Terms of Office 

• Trustees are appointed for a three-year term, with renewal available at end of first term.

Time Commitment 

• Attendance required at four quarterly board meetings (conducted online via Teams from 4:30-5:30pm). 

• Attendance compulsory at the Be Enriched AGM (conducted in-person).

Purpose:
To create, manage, and optimise digital fundraising campaigns that drive donor engagement, ambassador participation, and online revenue for the CIC.

Key Tasks:

• Establish and run online fundraising campaigns across social platforms, email, live streams, and community networks

• Help build the online infrastructure for the Volunteer Fundraising Ambassador Programme, including toolkits, digital scripts, social media assets, and onboarding materials

• Develop donor journeys, automation flows, and campaign funnels that convert supporters into recurring donors

• Analyse campaign performance, track KPIs, and present clear data reports to the Senior Fundraising Manager

• Work with the Digital Infrastructure Team to integrate donation forms, CRM systems, email platforms, and dashboards

• Support creative storytelling—producing digital content that is ethical, trauma-informed, powerful, and community-centred

• Stay updated with digital fundraising trends and tools to ensure our campaigns remain innovative and scalable

Our mission is to reduce social isolation through positive enablement.

The Mid Devon Messenger serves a close-knit community of people who, due to visual impairment or chronic illness, find it difficult to read.  For 43 years we have circulated free weekly audio news, information and entertainment to our listeners, providing a life-line to their community.  Always developing our services, listeners can now thrive in a number of activity groups, including bowling, walking and book clubs.  Supported by 50+ volunteers, in 2025 the charity was Highly Commended in the BBC's Make a Difference community award.

As Volunteer Chair of Trustees you will bring vision to further develop and expand our services to listeners, while sustaining the charity's infrastructure, and leading our brilliant team of volunteers.

Based in Tiverton, Devon hours are flexible, at a minimum of around 8 hours/month, with reasonable expenses payable.

Key responsibilities include:

Leadership of the Committee of the Association, ensuring effective governance.  Line-manage and support the Trustees - Vice Chair, Secretary and Treasurer.  Operational oversight.  Engaging Ambassador for the charity, nurturing relationshiops with partners, funders, and the local community.

Purpose of the Role

The Trustees of the charity also serve as Directors of the company and therefore hold legal, financial and ethical responsibilities under company law and charity legislation.

Trustees are responsible for:

• Complying with the charity’s governing document and the law

• Ensuring the charity delivers its purpose for public benefit

• Acting in the charity’s best interests

• Managing the charity’s resources responsibly

• Acting with reasonable care and skill

• Ensuring compliance across the organisation

The current Board brings together leaders from theatre, business, finance and hospitality. Trustees work in partnership with the CEO and Executive Team, delegating day-to-day operations and artistic decisions to the organisation’s specialist leaders.

The Board draws on its collective expertise, networks and experience to provide strategic and operational guidance. Trustees share a deep commitment to the Young Vic’s mission, championing its work and supporting engagement across the community.

Trustees are asked to join a committee where possible and actively support the theatre by:

• Attending productions

• Participating in events that support fundraising, advocacy and community engagement

• Making introductions within their networks, especially for fundraising

• Staying informed about developments in the arts and charity sectors

• Preparing thoroughly for Board meetings, contributing actively and attending in person whenever possible

The Board operates in line with the Charity Governance Code, which sets out seven core principles: organisational purpose, leadership, integrity, decision-making risk and control, board effectiveness, equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI), and openness and accountability.

Person Specification

The organisation is seeking approximately four new Trustees and is particularly interested in individuals with expertise in:

• Freelance work within the arts

• Law

• Theatre production or commercial producing

• Charity fundraising

• Accounting

However, the Board also welcomes applicants who may not meet these specific criteria but feel able to contribute meaningfully to the organisation’s development and future direction.

Previous trustee experience is not required. A comprehensive induction, mentoring and ongoing support will be provided.

Terms of Appointment

Trustees are appointed for an initial four-year term, with the option of a further four-year extension and, in some cases, an additional two years. The maximum tenure is ten years. The Board meets four times per year, with the Executive Board convening an additional four times and further committee meetings scheduled as needed.

Our partner is a renowned charity delivering community-based programmes in renewable energy, clean water and sustainable agriculture in Malawi. Following a period of organisational contraction and reduced activity, the organisation has recently received a significant capital grant and is preparing for a full organisational audit, alongside renewed fundraising efforts.

With a small core team and finance activity spread across multiple entities, the organisation is seeking targeted support to ensure its finance systems are robust, aligned, and able to withstand donor scrutiny as funding and programme delivery scale up again.

They are looking for a volunteer to conduct a Finance & Accounting Health Check, with a particular focus on simplifying reporting and strengthening how financial information is extracted and presented for donors, grant partners, and governance.

Key areas of support include:

• Reviewing finance systems, policies, and controls to assess audit readiness and donor compliance
• Reviewing and aligning charts of accounts across entities to ensure consistency and ease of consolidation
• Supporting the development of a truncated chart of accounts that enables clear, same-day donor and grant reporting without excessive detail
• Reviewing how historical programme expenditure is currently tracked and helping design a simplified reporting view across key programme areas
• Advising on practical reporting structures and dashboards that present a clear picture of financial health, tailored to a small leadership team

The volunteer will work closely with a senior staff member responsible for finance and reporting, helping translate complex transactional data into clear, usable financial information that supports transparency, confidence, and decision-making.

Volunteer Profile:
The ideal volunteer will have a a solid grounding in finance; experience with NGOs, multi-entity structures, or audit preparation would be particularly valuable. Confidence using QuickBooks Online is essential. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys bringing clarity to complex data and designing simple, effective systems that work in practice.

Time commitment:
The assignment is flexible, with an expected commitment of approximately 3 hours per week over 1–2 months, allowing for a focused but realistic review within a pro bono placement.

We are thrilled to be opening a brand-new Charity Shop in Langney Road, Eastbourne – and we are looking for volunteers to come and join our Team.

Our shops are a hive of activity and the heart of the local community. They raise funds to support our vital work and provide a place to find out more about how we help older people in the local area.

Our Stock Preparation Volunteers always enjoy being part of our shop teams; making new friends and helping the charity to maximise the income from the amazing items people donate to us.

In this role you will usually be working in our donation sorting area, which is off the shop floor. Here you will help the team process, prepare and price the items people donate.

We receive hundreds of bags of clothing, bric-a-brac, toys, games and all sorts of items every week. You will help us to turn these into vital funds to support our work.

After full training you will be part of our processing team; sorting through the donated items, identifying those which we should sell, preparing them and pricing before they are put onto the shop floor.

You may have a particular area of experience, such as clothing, books or antiques. Your skills and knowledge will help us to gain the best value for each item and some of our volunteers even coordinate entire sections, such as a book rooms within our stores.

When people come in to donate their items you will be helping to thank them for their support. Many items are Gift Aided so when processing the items you will ensure that Gift Aid labels are attached so that we can gain this additional vital income.

You will help to make our products look amazing; steaming clothes (if this is your area) and helping to clean and make every item look great and ready for sale.

It would be ideal if you could volunteer at least one shift a week, which is about three hours but we're also happy to have more flexible times. No special skills are needed as we will show you what to do and will provide all the training you need.

Our shops are a hive of activity and the heart of the local community. They raise funds to support our vital work and provide a place for local people to find out more about how we help older people in their area. Our volunteers always enjoy being part of our shop teams; chatting to our customers about the fabulous items we sell and telling them about the fantastic work that we do.

As a Customer Service Volunteer you will get the chance to meet new people and make friends, plus play a vital role in helping to raise funds to support local older people.

You will be working on the shop floor as the welcoming face of our charity. Serving customers with a smile, using the till (don't worry, we will show you how) and handling money and sales.

When people come in to donate items you will be thanking them for their support and helping them to complete Gift Aid signups on our Gift Aid system.

You will help to make our shops look amazing; putting out items that the sorting teams have prepared, helping with merchandising, labelling and ensuring the shop is clean and always looking its' best.

You will need to be ok using a touch screen device as our tills run on a tablet, though we will always provide full training and some time for you to get used to using this first.

Lastly, you may have people enquiring about our work, or asking for help and we will provide you with all the details of where to refer them to within the charity.

It would be ideal if you could volunteer one shift a week, which is about four hours but we're also happy to have more flexible times. No special skills are needed as we will show you what to do and will provide all the training you need.
